Chapter 224: Nurmengard Prisoner of the Century

Chapter 224: Nurmengard Prisoner of the Century
Dumbledore did not obtain any more substantial information, and Lin You failed to obtain the stone statue, and both of them felt a little disappointed when they were seen off.

Night had already fallen. Earl Goff stretched and asked, "Is this the end of today's investigation? Do you want to go back and ask Scrimgeour about his findings?"

"Perhaps; but from what I know of the 'Saints', they will not be caught so easily. Although Scrimgeour's work ability is outstanding, today's Aurors are far inferior to their counterparts in the war years in terms of execution." Dumbledore walked slowly in the woods, the hem of his robe dragging the fallen leaves, rustling on the ground.

Seeing that he had no intention of leaving immediately, Lin You knew that the old wizard had something else to say, so he asked, "If it were you, how would you search for these 'saints'?"

"I won't search." Dumbledore said with a smile, "If you want to find the members of the 'Saints', the best way is of course to ask their leader."

"Grindelwald? Are you sure that it was your good friend who commanded the 'Saints' to attack Ms. Helena and look for clues about the Holy Lance?" Lin You asked in confusion.

Previously, Dumbledore kept saying that we should not jump to conclusions, which made people mistakenly think that he was trying to absolve his good friend of responsibility; could it be that after talking with Constantine, his mind changed completely?

Didn't he say anything just now? Lin You was very sure that he hadn't heard any new information while he was listening in. It was basically what he had first relayed to Dumbledore.

"I just got some details from Mr. Constantine." Dumbledore explained calmly, "The fighting style of those people is indeed that of the 'Saints'; and they are the most core 'Saints' combatants. No one except Grindelwald can command them."

"Isn't that too absolute? Grindelwald has been imprisoned for nearly half a century."

"It is precisely because half a century has passed that I can be sure that these people are acting on Grindelwald's orders." In an open space with sparse trees, the headmaster of Hogwarts stopped, looked up at the starry sky, and lost himself in memories of the past.

"Grindelwald's prestige in the hearts of his followers is one reason, and the current state of the 'Saints' is another reason." Dumbledore went on to explain, "A group of old men who have lived in seclusion for half a century, their will and faith have long been worn out; the coercion and inducement of strangers will have no effect on this group of people. Apart from the leader who once brought them faith and life goals, who can command them to move out collectively and travel half the world?"

"In other words, we have to go abroad tonight and visit Austria?" Lin You had a headache. "Okay, let's go there and come back quickly."

"Do you need me to give you a ride? The location of Nurmengard is protected by magic." asked the old wizard.

"Don't worry, I know where that place is." Earl Goff waved his hand, "But are you sure it's appropriate for us to enter the country like this?"

"Why don't we just keep it a secret from them?" Dumbledore winked; although he often restrained himself because of his moral values, he was indeed not a person who stuck to the rules.

After two crisp sounds similar to bursting balloons, the figures of an old man and a young boy disappeared from the woods. Using Apparition to cross the distance of the English Channel and half of Western Europe was not a big problem for these two.

In fact, Lin You’s dimensional space gate is more convenient, but he does not intend to fully demonstrate this "magic" which is not magic at all in front of Dumbledore.

The Forrest family can be magical, and Bryce Forrest can be a genius, but it is unnecessary to do something that is completely beyond the common sense of the wizarding world. Nurmengard is located in the mountains; it is said to be a prison, but in fact it was originally a castle, and it was Grindelwald's base camp. However, only one tower of the former castle is now preserved as a complete building, and the rest of the building was destroyed in the battle or demolished after the war.

Compared with the heyday when the "Saints" once swept across the European magic world, the now overgrown ruins are whimpering in the cold wind of late autumn, adding to the desolation.

The only remaining tower is where the prison cell is located, and Grindelwald is imprisoned on the top floor of the tower; no one knows how the first generation Dark Lord would feel when he overlooks the ruins of his former "kingdom" all day long.

"It's such a ghost place, and there's not even a single person to be seen. Who is responsible for Grindelwald's daily diet?" Lin You looked around curiously.

The descriptions of Nurmengard Prison in the original novel and the TV series are basically glossed over, especially Grindelwald's prison life after his defeat, which is almost never mentioned. The scene where Voldemort came here to kill people is probably the most detailed description.

So, how will the big world's self-interpretation add relevant details?
Dumbledore replied, "A house-elf brings food and water regularly."

"Only a house-elf, no human?" Lord Goff was quite surprised. "This house-elf must have your deep trust."

Dumbledore said with emotion: "This is also a last resort. Gellert has an indescribable charm. Unless one is mentally prepared, few people can resist him. He was arrested more than once before 1945, but he escaped from the cage every time - and he did so by inciting the guards to rebel."

"Rebellion, or every time? If you say it's the Imperius Curse or the Confusion Curse, maybe I'll be more likely to believe it."

"The elite Aurors of the MACUSA cannot be controlled by spells alone." The old wizard couldn't help but sigh as he recalled the past. "So after we imprisoned him in Nurmengard, we decided not to let anyone contact Gellert; because we didn't want him to expand the team of 'Saints' anymore."

Lin You guessed, "So they chose house elves? Because these creatures are simple-minded and will resolutely follow their masters' orders. All they need to do is give an order like 'don't stop after delivering the food, and leave immediately no matter what happens'."

"You are very smart. You even guessed the content of the order almost correctly." Although Dumbledore praised him, his tone did not show much joy. Because the purpose of those orders was to completely isolate the people in the cage from others.

"But what I don't understand is why Grindelwald didn't leave?" Lin You looked around, "I didn't see any magic restricting movement around. Compared to here, Azkaban has become like a prison - at least there are jailers guarding the prisoners there."

The old wizard seemed not to have heard that Count Goff openly denounced the most notorious prison in the wizarding world.

He looked up at the top of the tower and said calmly, "No one is imprisoning him, and Gellert Grindelwald will not be imprisoned by anyone; he stays here only because of a promise... or the constraints of a magical contract."
