Chapter 51 The O'Connor Family in the Big World

Chapter 51 The O'Connor Family in the Big World

After seeing off the goblin elder who was full of thoughts, the old butler brought today's new newspaper; The Daily Prophet was placed on the top.

It has to be said that although the Daily Prophet often follows the path of the Sun, as the most influential publishing house in the wizarding world, they do a very good job in news timeliness; the attack on Gringotts that took place last night was reported on a large page this morning.

But the only thing worth mentioning is its timeliness.

Except for the first paragraph, the remaining 90% of the content begins with various words such as "guess", "it is said", "possibly", and "perhaps".

After reading the whole article of nonsense, Lin You only vaguely made out one thing: The Daily Prophet was cooperating with the Ministry of Magic, and wanted to make a tentative attack on the Ministry of Magic to infiltrate the goblin-dominated financial industry by questioning the security of Gringotts.

Considering the recent criticisms against the transparency of Gringotts' gold reserves, Lin You could only find this kind of "building a temple in a snail shell and fighting for territory on the horns of a snail" behavior ridiculous.

With a population that is not much larger than that of an administrative village in China, it can still cause so many political struggles.

The old butler who was born a Squib often felt puzzled by Lin You's consistent attitude of "disdaining" the magic world: "Master, you don't seem to care about the role of Gringotts at all? In fact, in my opinion, it is not impossible to control goblins like Lacibe who need our help."

Because of his background and past experiences, the old butler is obviously more alienated from the Muggle world and pays more attention to the wizarding world. In fact, this is also the most mainstream attitude in the wizarding world. Even those "enlightened" wizards who are close to Muggles will subconsciously retain this "sense of alienation."

"The reason why I don't accept Lacibi is not because of whether I can control it, but because of whether there is a need." Lin You answered casually;
"Under the current system, the Forresters are already vested interests, and they occupy a considerable share of the benefits. I have no motivation to destroy this system, or to continue to expand the boundaries of the family's interests under the current system. The British wizarding world is so small, and there are only so many benefits. Even if I take all of them, how much will it be? Instead, I will simply attract hostility from others."

This explanation to the old butler actually had no effect; at his age, his thinking was fixed and his horizons were limited to the magical world. He could not understand why the ready-made benefits that were right in front of him could be thrown away.

Lin You did not explain more. He asked, "How is the matter I asked you to find out?"

"We have found out through MI5," the old butler replied, "The O'Connor family has been living in seclusion in Oxfordshire. The old O'Connors teach history and archaeology at Oxford University."

"Both husband and wife became professors?" Lin You felt puzzled; could Richard O'Connor's "archaeology" method of smashing the door of an ancient tomb with a crowbar be taught to students?

"Oh, no; the information says that Mrs. O'Connor is a university professor and Mr. O'Connor is her assistant professor."

"I think Mr. O'Connor is not suitable to be a professor's assistant, but more suitable to be a dean of studies; he is most suitable to manage naughty students."

The old butler did not understand why his young master acted so familiar with the O'Connors. He continued to report dutifully: "However, the couple are now over 90 years old and retired at home. It is said that their son Alex O'Connor is taking care of them."

"Looking back, Alex seems to be over 60 years old." Lin You sighed again, which made the old housekeeper confused. "Give me their address."

"Do you need a ride, Master?"

"No, this is a purely private visit, so don't make a big fuss." Lin You glanced at the address, "I've been to Blenheim Palace, and the O'Connors' house is not far from there."

Before he finished speaking, Earl Goff's figure disappeared in a slight sound. Blenheim Palace is located in Woodstock, Oxfordshire, and is the residence of the Duke of Marlborough. The Duke of Marlborough's family is named Churchill, and the famous former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill came from this family, so Blenheim Palace is also known as "Churchill Manor".

Using this Oxfordshire attraction as a transit point, Lin You quickly found the O'Connor family home.

Standing at the door and about to knock, the boy frowned slightly; he sensed the magical fluctuations of the Floo Network - right in this country villa.

"The O'Connor family is also a member of the magical world?" Lin You thought for a moment, then burst out laughing.

I stitched the witchcraft and sorcery from the third part of The Mummy into the magic system of the Harry Potter world. It seems reasonable that the O'Connor family became a wizarding family because of the changes in historical details?

Come to think of it, both Evelyn and her siblings and Alex were able to successfully recite the ancient spells in the Black Book of the Dead and the Golden Book of the Sun and make them work; perhaps it was precisely because of these details that the revised history "defaulted" them to have wizard blood.

As for O'Connor, it's a little harder to say. Although he is a descendant of the pharaoh's tomb guards and is born with the mission of killing the "Scorpion King", he may not have a talent for magic.

With all kinds of speculations in mind, Lin You knocked on the door.

The person who opened the door was a middle-aged woman in her thirties, with a mixed-race face of Oriental and Asian descent, but her eyebrows and eyes vaguely bore some of Evelin's former appearance.

"Who are you looking for, cute little sir?" Seeing that Lin You had a childish face but was wearing a formal suit and looked very serious, the person who opened the door might have mistaken him for a child from the neighborhood and couldn't help but teasing him.

"I'm here to see Mr. Alex O'Connor. I made an appointment with him in advance and I will visit him today." Lin You spoke in an authentic London accent and was polite, but he did not tell the other party that this appointment was made more than 40 years ago.

"Are you here to see my father? Please come in." The middle-aged woman made way.

Lin You walked into the room and saw that the living room was filled with the atmosphere of Christmas. Under the Christmas tree, there was a pile of unopened gift wrapping papers that had not yet been cleaned; the fireplace was burning warmly, and in the corner of the stone platform was an inconspicuous small cloth bag filled with green powder.

This basically confirms the O'Connor family's wizarding identity.

Two white-haired elderly people, a man and a woman, were sitting on the sofa in front of the fireplace, with their backs to the entrance of the living room, so their faces could not be seen clearly; on the armchair next to them sat an old man in his sixties, whose face bore some of the features of Alex when he was young.

At the same time, there were two boys jumping in front of the fireplace; the older one was about ten years old, and the younger one was about the same age as Lin You.

The old man on the chair also noticed the arrival of the guest; without waiting for him to ask, Lin You took the initiative to say: "Alex, I am here to visit you today in compliance with the agreement made more than 40 years ago."
