So, he quietly composed another verse next to Shenxiu's verse: There is no Bodhi tree, nor is there a mirror stand. There is nothing originally, so where can dust gather?

The Fifth Patriarch was greatly surprised when he saw this, and that very night he passed on the robe and the Dharma to Huineng.

The meanings of these two verses are roughly the same as those of the two couplets by Brother Guangdao.

Just as Shenxiu's body was like a Bodhi tree, it was defeated by Huineng's Bodhi tree.

“If there is no heaven and earth, then there is no Bodhi tree. If the heaven and earth are vast, then the body is the Bodhi tree?”

But that is the Buddha's heart, not the human heart!

"Bodhi has no fruit, and the extinction of karma is impermanent. The spirit of heaven and the nature of earth, when heaven and earth come together, there will be a new life."
