From a certain perspective, a two-seat fighter is a two-seat trainer for the J-11 fighter.

There are no J-11 fighter jets now. The pilots of the J-11 fighter jets are all selected from the pilots of the army. They have extremely high professional qualities and can be said to be the elite among pilots. These people only need professional training to have the ability to fly solo directly.

But this is still okay in peaceful times, but it will not work if war breaks out.

Because it takes a long time to train pilots, it is not easy to train such elite pilots.

The J-11 fighter jet can be produced quickly, but elite pilots cannot be trained quickly.

Therefore, a two-seat fighter like the J-11B fighter is very necessary. It can speed up the training of J-11 fighter pilots!

Second, it is to reduce the pilot's flight intensity and improve combat efficiency. This function is very necessary for multi-purpose fighters. In a two-seat fighter, the front-seat pilot is mainly responsible for flight driving, route planning, radar locking, intelligence situation sharing, etc. in medium and long-range air combat, and is responsible for the entire set of maneuvering, locking targets and launching missiles in close combat.

The back seat is the weapon operator, who is mainly responsible for firing and throwing weapons.

The reason for this design is mainly because under the conditions of modern warfare, pilots need to perform many complicated tasks including radar search, target locking, flight maneuvers, data transmission/reception, missile launch, electronic interference, etc.

Third, in order to facilitate long-range raids by fighter jets, the maximum range of the J-11 fighter is 5745 kilometers, but during an aerial refueling, the range can be greatly increased. During long-distance raids, it takes a long time, and maintaining the same posture for a long time puts a lot of physical and mental stress on the pilot. If it is a two-seater, with another pilot sharing the burden, it will be much easier.

The same goes for the improved two-seater version of the J-11 fighter.

The single-seat J-11A fighter is sufficient, but the two-seat J-11B fighter is also necessary.

Whether or not there is, that is completely different.

Moreover, for Liu Tao, another important purpose of developing the two-seater version of the J-11 fighter is to train a group of talents in aircraft development.

From a certain perspective, this goal is even more important than developing the J-11B fighter jet.

China’s current aircraft development capabilities are actually very weak.
