The J-11C fighter, as a carrier-based aircraft, is different from the J-11A fighter, as a land-based fighter. Because carrier-based aircraft take off from aircraft carriers, and aircraft carriers are sailing on the sea, affected by ocean weather conditions and wind and waves, the aircraft carriers will shake, and the flight area on the deck is limited, making it very difficult for carrier-based aircraft to take off and land. This requires carrier-based aircraft to have characteristics such as a low center of gravity and strong anti-dumping ability, and must have better take-off and landing performance, lower landing speed, and good low-speed maneuverability than land-based aircraft.

Moreover, due to the length of the take-off deck of an aircraft carrier, carrier-based aircraft usually take off with the help of a catapult. During take-off, the hook of the carrier-based aircraft is connected to the catapult. Under the combined effect of its own engine thrust and the ejection force, the carrier-based aircraft will unhook and fly off the deck after sliding for dozens of meters. During landing, the carrier-based aircraft can forcibly stop after sliding a short distance with the help of its own arresting hook and the arresting cable on the aircraft carrier. This requires the carrier-based aircraft to have a sturdy body structure and landing gear with excellent shock-absorbing performance to ensure that it can withstand the acceleration of catapult take-off and the impact load during landing.

Another thing is that carrier-based aircraft need to have a folding structure.
