My parents didn't expect much from me. My mother wanted me to marry the manager of the Xihuhui supermarket chain so that she could get a discount on meat.My father wanted me to marry someone who could fix my car's carburetor.People in their day valued hard work, self-giving, but not education.I am forever grateful to the late Melodyn Porter and my lifelong cheerleader, Claudia McNeil, for giving me the confidence to forge ahead boldly in life.I became good friends with Shirley Rempel in the second grade of elementary school. The teacher at that time was Miss Fang Ke. Thank you for always being by my side, giving me advice and supporting me. (Also, I've always been sorry for my misdemeanor as a kid - I dressed you up as a Christmas tree and plugged you in at my parents' dinner party.)
