Chapter 1 A Talking Wood

Strange things are always emerging in the world.

One day, a piece of talking wood appeared in Master Cherry's carpentry shop.It happened like this: the old carpenter Antonio (who was called Master Cherry, because he had a bright red nose that looked like a ripe cherry) found a piece of wood to make a table leg.Just as he was about to lift the sharp ax to peel the bark, he heard a voice saying:

"Don't strike too hard!"

Master Cherry was taken aback. He turned around the room to see where the sound was coming from. However, I checked under the table, looked under the chairs, and opened the wardrobe to check, but there was no one there!
"There is no one else in the room except me." The old carpenter scratched the wig on his head, sighed and said, "Oh, it seems that I am really old, and my ears are not working well." Master Cherry thought he heard He made a mistake, so he picked up the ax and slashed down on that piece of wood.

"Ouch! It hurts to death!" A thin voice called out, which sounded like the voice of a child who had been beaten.

This really frightened the poor old carpenter. He was dumbfounded, and it took him a long time to come back to his senses. "My God, is this piece of wood talking to me? But it's impossible. This piece of wood looks no different from other pieces of wood. Could it be... Could it be that there is a person hidden in this piece of wood?" So Master Cherry grabbed He picked up the wood and banged it hard against the wall, then stopped and listened for any sound, but the room was so quiet that there was no sound.

"Maybe I'm suffering from auditory hallucinations. Well, I'd better keep working." Master Cherry began to carefully plan the wood with a plane, and he hummed a little tune to encourage himself while working.

"It's tickling me to death, it's tickling me to death, stop now!" a thin voice said while giggling.

With a "plop", Master Cherry fell to the ground, his face was ashen, cold sweat was pouring out from his head, his red cherry-like nose had turned into a green olive, and his eyeballs were so frightened that they were about to fall out.

At this moment, someone knocked on the door.

"Come in!" The old carpenter didn't even have the strength to stand up and open the door.

It was Mr. Cherry's old friend Geppetto, whom the children called "Old Potato" because his yellow wig looked like cornmeal. But Geppetto's temper was very violent, and if anyone called him "old corn mush" he heard, it would be no good.At this time, Geppetto was thinking about something, and he didn't notice Master Cherry's panic-stricken look at all. As soon as he came in, he babbled non-stop:

"Hey! Old man, I want to tell you something wonderful. I'm going to make myself the best puppet in the world. It can talk, walk, and what's more, it can dance, do somersaults, dance Sword. I said, old man, I am old, and I need a child to keep me company, and being a puppet can relieve my worries. Besides, this puppet is so powerful, I can take it around the world, maybe You can still earn a living. What do you think of the idea?"

"Excellent, old cornbread!" cried the thin voice.

This made Geppetto so angry that he flushed red and said to Master Cherry, "Why do you call me cornbread?"

"I... I didn't call."

"It's just the two of us in the room, isn't it you or who?"

"I really didn't bark."

"That's what you called."

"I didn't call."

"It's you!"

"I didn't call!"

The two good friends became more and more excited, and they started fighting while talking.Geppetto rips off Antonio's white wig, and Antonio rips off Geppetto's yellow wig.

"Give me back the wig!" said Master Cherry.

"Give me back the wig, too!" said the old cornbread.

So the two little old men took back their wigs, apologized to each other, and held hands tightly, vowing that they would never fight again and would be good friends for life.

"Hey, old man, what you just said is really good, but what can I do for you?" Master Cherry asked.

"I want a piece of wood, can you give it to me?" the old corn paste said shyly.

Master Cherry was very happy to hear this, and he immediately gave the strange piece of wood to Geppetto: "Thank God! Maybe you can use it." Now, Master Cherry finally breathed a sigh of relief.

Geppetto was very happy, and he swore that he would be good friends with the old carpenter for life, and then went home happily with the wood.

Although Geppetto was a good carver, he was poor.He lives in the basement, which is dark, and there is nothing decent in the house, only a broken chair, a small bed, a small table and a few carving knives.

As soon as Geppetto got home, he took out his carving knife and began to carve the puppet with great attention.

"I have to give my beloved puppet a name, but what should I call it?" Geppetto said to himself while working, "Or call him Pinocchio, I know a family named Pinocchio, They're all doing well. Well, it's settled, and I hope the name brings luck to the little fellow!"

Geppetto was happy with the name, so he worked harder. After a while, he carved hair on that piece of wood, carved a small head, and then carved eyes.At this time, a miracle happened, and the newly engraved eyes turned around on their own, and then stared directly at Master Geppetto.

"My God, this is astonishing!" exclaimed Geppetto, "I'm not dreaming, am I?"

Geppetto wanted to see what would happen next, so he impatiently carved the puppet's nose.As soon as the nose was carved, it began to grow.Long, long, long, it grew into a very long, long nose in just a few minutes.Geppetto cut it short with his knife, but it grew back again.

"Well, forget about it, let's be the mouth." Geppetto said to himself.

However, before the mouth was finished, he grinned and laughed non-stop.The laughter distracted Geppetto from his work.

"Stop laughing!" said Geppetto angrily. But his words were of no use at all, and the puppet laughed even harder.

"Stop laughing!" Geppetto was really angry this time, and he frightened the little puppet with his eyes wide open. The puppet stuck out its tongue and stopped laughing.

So Geppetto went on to work.Gradually, the neck was carved out, the body was carved out, and the arms and hands also grew out under the carving knife.

But the little puppet's hand was restless as soon as it was done, and it tore the wig off Geppetto's head.

"Oh! Pinocchio, what are you doing? Give me back my hair!" cried Geppetto angrily. However, Pinocchio ignored him and put the wig on his own head. However, the wig was too big for him, and it almost suffocated him.

Seeing Pinocchio so mischievous, Geppetto felt very sad, such sad feeling as he had never felt before, so he couldn't help crying. He said to Pinocchio:
"Son, I haven't done you well yet, you are so naughty, naughty, and don't know how to respect your father, you are a little villain! But, you are still my child..." Geppetto wiped away his tears and continued to be a puppet legs and feet.

No sooner had the foot been done than Geppetto was kicked hard on the nose.

"I've asked for it! I should have thought of these things in the first place, but it's too late now. He's my boy now, and I'm his father."

Geppetto took the puppet down and put it on the ground, and began to teach him to walk.At first, Pinocchio's legs were so stiff that he couldn't move at all.Geppetto patiently supported him and taught him step by step. After a while, Pinocchio was able to walk by himself, and began to hop about the house, until at last he slipped out of the house and slipped into the street.

Geppetto ran after him, shouting, "Catch him! Catch him!" But Pinocchio, like a hare, scrambled about. The people on the street saw a puppet running and thought it was so strange, they all stopped and looked at him and laughed, forgetting to help Geppetto stop Pinocchio.

At this moment, a policeman heard Geppetto's shouts and the noise of the people. He thought it was a thief, so he stood in the middle of the road and blocked Pinocchio's way.Pinocchio tries to slip between the policeman's legs. But the policeman grabbed him by the long nose and handed him over to the panting Geppetto.

Geppetto was so angry that he wanted to screw Pinocchio's ear and give him a good lesson. However, he searched and couldn't find Pinocchio's ears. It turned out that Geppetto had forgotten to carve a pair of ears for Pinocchio.

Seeing that Geppetto was about to teach him a lesson, Pinocchio lay down on the ground and rolled around.People gathered around again all of a sudden, talking on the sidelines:
"Poor little puppet! I don't know how old Geppetto will beat him when we get back..."

"Yeah, don't look at the old guy Geppetto who is usually very honest, but he has a bad temper. I really don't know how he will beat the children when he comes home. We must be careful of him abusing children!"

The police only heard the following words. "Child abuse? That's okay!" So, the police sent Geppetto to prison without any explanation.

Geppetto cried along the way: "I am so miserable. I finally carved a puppet for myself as a child. I didn't expect that I would end up in prison because of this incident..."

However, the little villain Pinocchio took this opportunity to escape.
