Chapter 16

Dearest Daddy-Long-Legs:
This is a letter I wrote on purpose in the middle of this month because I feel so lonely tonight. It was raining and snowing outside the window, and snowballs were beating against my attic. There was no light on the campus, and it was pitch black everywhere. I drank black coffee and didn't want to sleep.

Tonight we had a dinner party with Sally, Julia and Lanora Fenton and we had cake, sweets and coffee.Julia said she had a good time, but Sally was the only one left to help with the dishes.

Originally, I could use tonight to learn Latin. But, to tell the truth, I have always been careless about learning Latin. We've finished Levy's "On Old Age" and are working on "On Friendship" (sounds like damn Isisia).

Would you mind being my grandmother for a bit first?Sally had a grandmother, Julia and Lenora had a grandmother, and a grandmother, and they all brought up their own grandmothers tonight.I also want to have such a relative - a kind and amiable grandmother. So, if you have no objection, I would like to send you a present for your 83rd birthday - a lace beanie with a purple ribbon - which I saw yesterday in a store in town.

The church bell struck twelve.I feel like I'm finally getting a little sleepy.

Good night, grandma.

love you judy

Dear Daddy Long Legs, I am about to write a composition in Latin.I have been studying hard and will continue to learn.I will be finishing this study soon.Make-up exams will be accepted for class 7 next Tuesday.I try to get a passing grade as much as I can, or face repeating a grade.By the next time I write, I'll either be safe and sound, happily out of a failing grade, or I'll be in pieces.

After the exam, I will write a decent letter to you.Tonight I'm going to work hard on Latin ablatives.in a hurry.
