Chapter 7

Dear Daddy Long Legs:
I changed my name.

My name on the school roll was still Jerusha, but on other occasions I was called Judy. It's a sad thing to have a nickname for yourself, isn't it?But I didn't invent the name, it was what Freddy Perkins called me before he was babbling.

I hope Mrs. Lippi will use a little more thought when choosing a name for the baby in the future. She took our surnames from the phone book - you only need to turn to the first page and you'll see Albert. And the name came by hand, and Jerusha had seen it on a tombstone.I've never liked the name, but I kind of like Judy. It's a silly name, and it should belong to a girl who is completely different from me, a girl with blue eyes, sweet, spoiled, who doesn't have to worry about anything, and lives a carefree life. How nice that would be!No matter what mistakes I made, no one said I was spoiled by my family.Still, it's fun to pretend.Well, please call me Judy from now on.

Do you know? Now I have 3 pairs of sheepskin gloves.I've gotten sheepskin fingerless gloves as part of the Christmas tree before, but never real sheepskin gloves with separated fingers.I kept taking it out and wearing it on my hand, but with great difficulty I couldn't resist not wearing it in the classroom.

The lunch bell is ringing, goodbye!
