Chapter 7

I walked for two days, barely stopping on the road. I ate some canned meat when I was hungry, and drank some water when I was thirsty. Occasionally, I had a third emergency, which was solved as soon as the car stopped, and I climbed into the car and left quickly.

Two days later, the car couldn't move at all, and the wheels were stuck in the sand, and when it started, it would bring up a cloud of sand and dust.

"There is no man's land ahead, get out of the car! The next thing to do is to walk." Lao Yan stood at the rear of the car and looked forward, then called everyone to get off the car.

Each of us carried a marching bag, which was filled with various supplies, and finally we were ready to hang the submachine gun on our bodies.

Lao Yan is just like us, except that besides the backpack, he also carries a waterproof bag half the size of the backpack, which is so bulging that I don't know what's in it?
Walking in the desert is no different than other places. The sand under the sun is scorching hot. Stepping down is like stepping on a stove. After walking a few kilometers, everyone is sweating profusely.

"Lao Yan, let's take a rest." Company Commander Chen pulled Lao Yan. He was the oldest in the team besides Lao Yan. Even though he was physically strong, he couldn't handle it in the desert climate.

What surprised me was Lao Yan, a middle-aged man with amazing physical strength, he was still alive and well after walking for so long.

Lao Yan looked at his watch, then looked down at the map in his hand, then shook his head and said that it was not yet time, and now that he rested for the night, he might not be able to make it to a suitable place for camping.

Hearing what he said, everyone had no choice but to continue walking forward.

I wiped the sweat off my face, and after looking around, I felt dizzy. There is almost nothing in this desert except sand. After walking for a long time, it was like walking in place. It really tested people's patience!

After walking for about two hours, the sun was almost setting, and Lao Yan pointed to a shelter on a low slope and said: "We will camp here tonight, and see if there are any clues nearby tomorrow."

According to him, the route we are taking now is the route determined by Yu Chengze's archaeological team at that time, so we have to investigate every campsite we pass.

Along the way, we have gotten used to Lao Yan's command, and we set up the tent as soon as he spoke.

We are used to this job, and within half an hour three windproof tents stood in a circle at the leeward opening.

Lao Yan naturally shared a tent with Company Commander Chen, and Hawkeye and Shorty had always played well, so they got together too, and I shared a tent with the other two.

These two people are not much older than me. One has a baby face. He is said to be 19 years old but looks younger than me. His comrades jokingly call him a milk baby. He is a local from Bayingoleng, Xinjiang. He joined the army because of his family. The poor can't get rid of the pot, and the army still has something to eat.

Just don't look at him who is young and jovial, his fighting skills are top-notch in the entire army, no matter whether it is skill or hand-to-hand combat, few people can be his opponents, which is why he is here!
The other, nicknamed Viper, was relatively taciturn, and he took a bunch of grass to study when he had nothing to do. He was proficient in pharmacology, and he could toss out poison and life-saving things. His comrades respected and feared him.

I don’t usually deal with them much. Model soldiers are always different from transport soldiers like me who are only responsible for running errands. It’s not that they are difficult to approach, but that their training and tasks are heavier than ours, and they don’t have so much time for gags.

Now that I’m huddled in a tent, I can’t help but talk. Milkman was the first one to speak. He winked at me: “I didn’t expect you to know quite a lot.”

"I read a lot of miscellaneous books." I rubbed my head, knowing that he was referring to my answer to Lao Yan in the tent a few days ago.

"Tsk, don't tell me, I don't know as much as you who are born and bred." The milkman's tone was exaggerated, and I didn't know how to answer him. He had already changed the subject, and said mysteriously: "Don't you think that this time the Is something wrong with the rescue mission?"

The poisonous snake, who hadn't reacted much, looked up at him, said something, and then got bored again.

I became interested, and leaned next to him and muttered: "It's not right, how can someone come to the desert and bring so many weapons?"

"That's right, and I always feel that the recording is wrong. Have you noticed that the tape is yellowed..." Milkman said with a tone of discovering the New World.

I didn't pay attention to this, but I just said that it doesn't mean anything, maybe an old tape was used for recording.

Milkman thought about it for a while and felt that this doubt was untenable, so he let him go.

The two of us are young, and it happened that the two of us kept watch in the middle of the night, and we spent most of the night standing outside the tent talking like this.

"Go to sleep, let me watch the night instead." The viper, who had fallen asleep a long time ago, opened the tent and said, and it was only then that Naiwa and I realized that it was already late at night, so we got into the tent and fell asleep.

Ohh Ohh ohh……

Halfway through my sleep, I seemed to hear some sound in the dimness, like the cry of a person, rustling and lingering around my ears.

I didn't care, there are often some weird sounds in the desert, the strong wind passing through the weathered rocks, it's even weirder than this crying sound, so I turned over and continued to sleep.

"Wake up!"

I was just about to fall asleep again, but the milkman pushed me, and I rubbed my eyes and asked him what's wrong?
Milkman looked out of the tent nervously and asked me if I heard anything.

I nodded, seeing his pale face, I couldn't help but want to tease him, pretending to be frightened and said: "It can't be that there is... a ghost?"

Who knew that just as I said that, the milk boy screamed: "It's the ghosts picking up people, they are here to pick up people!"

"What ghost picks up people?" I asked curiously.

Just as Milkman was about to answer, the poisonous snake opened the tent with a stern look and told us to go to bed quickly.

Milkman seemed a little afraid of poisonous snakes, so he immediately retracted into his sleeping bag and rolled towards me.

I couldn't hold back my curiosity, and asked him again in a low voice what a ghost picks up people, but the baby was trembling and couldn't explain clearly, and just said that he was going to die...

I saw that he couldn't explain why, and he lost interest, so I waved him to sleep quickly.

woohoo...

At this moment, the crying suddenly became much louder, as if hundreds of children were sobbing together, and I got goosebumps all over my body when I heard it.

Milkman sat up abruptly from the sleeping bag, grabbed my shoulders and asked me to accompany him.

I had no choice but to stand up, patted him on the shoulder and told me to go out and have a look, but he stopped me and refused to let me go out, anyone who said it would die!

"It's okay." I patted him on the shoulder comfortingly again, and walked out of the tent with the gun in hand.

The poisonous snake stood outside, and frowned when he saw me coming out. Hawkeye, who was watching the night with him, asked me if I was frightened by the crying.

I smiled wryly and said that the baby boy was scared, and I guess he wouldn't feel at ease if I didn't come to see it.

The poisonous snake frowned even deeper, but didn't say anything, but Hawkeye smiled brightly and said that the milk baby was not only small, but also timid, which is not a bad nickname.

I laughed a couple of times, didn't say much, and turned on the flashlight to take a picture in the distance, but I couldn't see anything except the dense weeping in my ears.
