Chapter 5 Globalization in the 21st Century (4)
Editor's note:

Co-sponsored by 25 Asian countries and Australia, the Boao Forum for Asia was officially announced on February 2001, 2 in Boao Town, Hainan Province, China. The Forum is a non-official, non-profit, regular, fixed-site international organization that provides a high-level dialogue platform for governments, enterprises, experts and scholars to discuss economic, social, environmental and other related issues. The 27 Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference was held from March 2016 to 3, with the theme of "Asia's New Future: New Vitality and New Vision", among which the topic of "Internet +" was the highlight. At the meeting, Jack Ma first proposed the need to establish an EWTP (New World Electronic Trade Platform) that everyone can participate in, and proposed that e-commerce is an ecological revolution.

6. When East meets West

Chinese people are very different from Americans.Americans say that what they want to do is the thing of the whole world, and human beings must do it, and they can’t do it otherwise; the Chinese have made a lot of contributions to human beings, and done a lot of things for the world, but they say it belongs to our own family. matter.

It turns out that the economy of New China is very backward, and the country’s economic strength is relatively poor, so everyone has no expectations for China. However, as China becomes the world’s second largest economy, the world has huge demand and expectations for China. The world hopes China takes on the responsibility of the world's second largest economy.

"Belt and Road" is China's responsibility to the world
I personally think that the "One Belt, One Road" is an opportunity for China to take on the responsibility of the world, and it is also a carrier for China to do something for all mankind. "The Belt and Road Initiative" is not about diverting China's excess productivity at all. Just like Confucius said, "Do not do to others what you don't want yourself to do to yourself." The Chinese people believe that what you give to your friends must be the best for you. Distributing things that are not needed at home to others will cause a lot of trouble.

China is actually amazing.300 years ago, Eastern culture was one of the most prosperous cultures in the world. In the past 300 years, Western culture has also developed well. What was the first globalization initiated by China? It's the Silk Road.

In the past three to fifty years, the pattern of world integration has been Americanization and the era of industrial generalization. As the world's largest economy and one of the most remarkable countries in the world, the United States has entered the world in its own way and pushed industrialization to its peak.

But today, the imbalance in the world economy and trade, the emergence of new technologies, and changes in the economic situation have made China realize that it must do something to contribute to the world. If the "Belt and Road" is regarded as China's contribution to the world, and as a way for China to participate in the formulation of fairer, more open, and more transparent trade rules, the "Belt and Road" will bring benefits to countries along the route, and will receive more benefits. The respect of many people, and I personally think this is the original intention of the "Belt and Road".

If the previous globalization was mainly to obtain resources, cheap labor, and seize more markets, then I believe that the globalization initiated and caused by the "Belt and Road Initiative" should be to create employment opportunities for the local area and do something for the local area. What they can't do in reality, contribute to the local economic prosperity. If you think about it this way, I believe that the "One Belt, One Road" initiative is the truly amazing idea of the 21st century.China needs to share its experience in economic growth, and even more so, its own views on the world, and has the courage to take responsibility for the world.

Moreover, I think the "Belt and Road" is more important for the exchange of Eastern and Western cultures.Only cultural exchanges and ideological exchanges can bring about economic exchanges.

The West talks about the struggle between black and white, and the East talks about the blending of black and white

There are huge differences between Eastern and Western cultures. When Chinese people meet, they ask "Have you eaten?" Westerners ask if the weather is good. The reason may be that the Chinese rely on farming for food, and what they care most about is whether they are hungry. This is a problem in subtropical regions and agricultural societies. The west is the northern temperate zone, where hunting is the main activity, and hunting can only be done when the weather is good, so they are very concerned about the weather. In addition, farming does not necessarily require teamwork, but hunting seems to be more necessary for teamwork, so the Easterners' teamwork is relatively poor historically, and their combat capabilities are also poor. The West was dominated by nomadic peoples at first. From hunting to plundering, to the development of football today, they have shown strong combat capabilities. In football, 11 people play like 1 person, and we play 1 person like 11 people.

Americans are always worried about whether China will control the world if one day becomes strong. In fact, this is one of the manifestations of the great cultural differences between the East and the West. Some time ago, I talked with some media executives in the United States, talking about the differences between Eastern and Western cultures. Have you read an article in The Analects? No. Have you read an article in "Tao Te Ching"?No.I just said, I have read the Bible, and after reading it, I have learned to respect it, and I have understood the differences between Western culture and ours, as well as their strengths and our weaknesses.

The West talks about the struggle between black and white, while Eastern Taoism talks about the blending of black and white.Black is not necessarily bad, and white is not necessarily good. When I was young, whenever I got into a fight outside, no matter whether I won or not, my father would beat me up first. This is the content and method of education in China, while the West pays attention to solving problems in conflicts.

We want to teach our children to solve problems in conflict. How can the world remain free from conflict? How can the "Belt and Road" not conflict? How can globalization not conflict?
Chinese Taoist philosophy emphasizes changing oneself to be in harmony with nature, Confucianism emphasizes changing oneself to adapt to the society, and Buddhism emphasizes changing one's behavior to conform to inner development.Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism have no idea of confrontation, or they must be "leaders".

Western boxing wins by knocking down the opponent, while Chinese Tai Chi wins by not hurting anyone. Therefore, in the business competition, if the Chinese want to make people back out of difficulties, confrontation is already a bad strategy, and it is a master if they let their opponents not know how to get in.

Because of language learning, I read the Bible.I think this is the most amazing "bestseller" in the world, it is clear, and it tells you very moving - don't listen to the rest, just listen to God.We Buddhists pay attention to "enlightenment", which is troublesome. Everyone's thoughts, realms and abilities are different. So in my opinion, some sayings in Chinese culture make sense. The so-called cultural self-confidence is not to be conceited, but to be confident. The Qing Dynasty was too conceited in culture. After being defeated, we lost our self-confidence and felt that we were nothing, and everything in the West was good.Actually not necessarily.

Globalization is about pattern, while internationalization is about ability

Internationalization and globalization are two different concepts.Personally, I think the Belt and Road Initiative is globalization.Internationalization is about ability, while globalization is about structure and realm. Many people talk about the internationalization of corporate capabilities and personal capabilities. Globalization means global responsibility and a global perspective. Even small countries in Africa are related to me. This is what we need.Internationalization may require some knowledge of English, but globalization does not require much knowledge of English.Mao Zedong knew English or Nixon could speak Chinese? But in 1972, these two amazing people built the most important globalization pattern of mankind, which will affect the future for many years. In my opinion, the "One Belt, One Road" is a pattern of globalization, but when Chinese enterprises go out, they must have international capabilities.

Appreciate your competitors and you will become stronger

Chinese culture is very unique. Chinese people use an attitude of appreciation and respect to observe differences from others, learn and catch up. This is our culture. An American official told me what would happen if China became the leader. I said, don’t worry, the culture of the Chinese nation does not lie in victory in wars, but in the "transformation" of Tai Chi. change you.

Is China understanding the West today or the West understanding China?Does the United States know more about China, or does China know more about the United States?Let's make a hypothesis first. If you go to New York today and find 100 Americans on the street, you will make them all faint if you even mention 10 Chinese cities. Except for Beijing and Shanghai, they don't even know Hangzhou. It is estimated that there will be no 10 people who can speak 10 sentences of Chinese, even if they go to Harvard University. But you go to Beijing and Shanghai to find 100 Chinese people, and you let them speak 10 English words, and they can speak fluently. They even care about American affairs, and Trump won the US presidential election. Everyone We all know that everyone cares.

In this world, every country has many elites. The real elite will keep learning, keep adapting, keep appreciating new cultures, and keep reinventing themselves instead of changing others. So, is the East better or the West better?I think both the East and the West are good, but a successful person must combine the East and the West and appreciate each other. You will do better when you look at it with appreciation and respect, and you will become stronger when you compete with your opponents, but not with hatred.Business is not as terrible as competition, but some people make competition terrible.

In the past 300 years, the West was driven by knowledge, and the East 300 years ago was driven by wisdom. What is smart, what is wisdom? From my own rough understanding, being smart is seeing things that others don't see, and being wise is seeing things as if you didn't see them.

The West has indeed made great contributions to human society. Without the development of science and technology in the past two or three hundred years, human progress would not have been possible. However, human history is not only 300 years old, it is based on thousands of years of civilization, and we cannot deify science. My point of view is that science is not the truth. Science is used to prove the truth. Some problems cannot be explained by science.

After communicating with entrepreneurs in countries such as Japan, the United States, and Russia, I found that a company must be based on a strong culture of its own country in order to continue to grow. The same is true for a country. To truly participate in the development of the "Belt and Road", China must share the culture of the East.

"Virtual economy" is part of the service industry
In the eyes of Westerners, if the economy declines, ordinary people will not spend money; the opposite is true for Easterners.Chinese people have the strongest sense of urgency in the world. Whenever they have money, they deposit it in the bank. Now China's deposit rate is so high, even if the economy does not grow, Chinese people still have money to spend, because Americans spend tomorrow's money, or even other people's money, and Chinese people always spend their own money, so when the economy is difficult, China People still have money to spend, not to mention that China's GDP is still growing by 6.5%.

I have always felt that it is impossible for a country's economy to continue to grow by more than 10%.It is okay for you to grow four or five centimeters a year before the age of 18. After a certain level of growth, it is the brain that grows, not the body. Some people say that consumption in China cannot be afforded because the medical insurance system is not perfect, so people feel panic.Real consumption is that as long as there are good things, consumers will be motivated to buy.I have never heard of a country that wants to perfect medical care, health, and insurance before consuming, not to mention the establishment of medical insurance and social insurance itself is a huge opportunity for consumption.

I think it is a necessary and gradual improvement process for Chinese products to move from quantity to quality. It is an inevitable process for China's economy to transform from a manufacturing-based real economy to a service-based economy, which is the demand of social progress. Now there is no need to oppose the real economy and the virtual economy. In fact, the banking and Internet industries are also an integral part of the service industry.

Therefore, I believe that China has a huge domestic demand market, and China's business environment is improving. In the 20s, doing business relied on guts. In the 70s and 80s, it relied on relationships and funds, and now it relies on wisdom.

I think "idealism" and a strong cultural heritage are what our country has, but we need to stand in the realm of globalization to think about the differences between the "Belt and Road" and the development of the past 30 years. It is not to ask whether there is cheap labor or raw materials in the local area, but to consider what to do to create more employment opportunities for the local area and create unique value that does not exist locally.

Three keys to running a business: emotional quotient, intelligence quotient, love quotient

There are three keys to running a business: Emotional Quotient (EQ), Intelligence Quotient (IQ) and Love Quotient (LQ).People with extremely high EQ are easy to succeed, but their IQ is generally not high, because smart people don’t study very much, so a high IQ can keep them undefeated, and a high EQ can lead to success.

All successful entrepreneurs have extremely high emotional intelligence and a good grasp of human problems.

Emotional quotient and IQ can make a company succeed, but one key point cannot be ignored, that is love quotient (LQ). If you do not have love quotient, you will not be respected even if you are rich.

As the second largest economy in the world, China will not be respected by the world if we do not take responsibility for the world and love business. There is a difference between love quotient and emotional quotient. EQ is the understanding of people, and love quotient is the heart of great love for the world. The heart of great love is not the heart of excessive love. It has principles and bottom lines.

China has thousands of years of culture. In the past 30 years, China's growth rate has surprised the whole world. This growth is not achieved by just learning some knowledge, but is supported by a strong cultural gene. So, we have both good things and good at learning.By upholding the heart of great love, we can bring benefits to the countries along the "Belt and Road".
