Chapter 26 How to Promote Difficult-to-Root Flowers
Rooting In flower cutting propagation, some flowers that are difficult to root are often treated accordingly to promote rooting of cuttings.

(1) The chemical treatment method uses plant auxin (hormone) for treatment, which has been widely used in production.Commonly used agents include indoxoacetic acid, indoxobutyric acid, naphthalene acetic acid, ABT rooting powder, etc., which have a significant effect on stem cuttings. There are many application methods of auxin, including powder treatment, liquid treatment, fat treatment, spraying or injection on the mother plant of picking strips, and treatment of rod insertion matrix. In flower propagation, powder and liquid treatment are mostly used. When powder is processed, talcum powder is often used as the base. When preparing powder, since these hormones are not easily soluble in water, they should be dissolved in 95% alcohol first, and then mixed in talcum powder at a concentration of 500-2000 mg/kg. Dry in the shade, and finally grind into a very fine powder, ready to use.

For liquid treatment, the drug concentration is 5-10 mg/kg for herbaceous plants; 40-200 mg/kg for woody semi-hard branches, soak for 24 hours.Medicines are ready for use.It can also be prepared into an alcohol concentrate, the concentration of which can reach 4000-10000 mg/kg, immerse the cuttings in the liquid medicine for 1-2 seconds, take it out and cut it immediately.Potassium permanganate, sucrose and acetic acid are also used.Potassium permanganate has a good effect on most woody plants, and the general concentration is 0.1% to 1%, soaked for 24 hours.Sucrose is effective for both woody and herbaceous plants, and the treatment concentration is 2% to 10%. Because the sugar solution is beneficial to microbial activities, after the treatment, it should be rinsed with clean water before cuttings.

(2) Physical treatment methods There are many physical treatment methods, including current treatment, ultrasonic treatment, girdling treatment, softening treatment, low temperature treatment, hot water treatment, etc.

Girdling can be applied to woody plants that are difficult to root.During the growth period, cut the lower end of the cuttings and peel them in a circular manner, so that nutrients can accumulate at the upper end of the girdling part, and then cut the cuttings here for cuttings, and it is easy to take root.Softening treatment means that before the cuttings are cut, shading treatment is carried out on the cut part to make it white and soften, give the rooting environment and stimulation in advance, and promote the formation of root tissue.Low temperature treatment and spray treatment are widely used methods, which can also promote rooting of cuttings.
