Chapter 2 A List of Kangxi Concubines (2)

Concubine Liang, Wei Shi (?——1711), a coater in Zhenghuang Banner of Manchuria, the daughter of Abu Nai, the leader of the inner tube. When the prince was abolished, the eighth son was recommended by the ministers as the crown prince, and was deeply hated by his father.Kangxi once said: "(The eighth son of the emperor) was born to a bitch named Xinzheku." (Volume 261 of "Records of the Holy Ancestor of the Qing Dynasty") Xinzheku means "the person who manages the food and rations", which is under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Internal Affairs slaves. After the officials of the Eight Banners of the Qing Dynasty were convicted, they and their family members were included in the Xinzheku and became slaves to wear sins as a punishment.Wei's own ancestors should have had similar experiences to become Xin Zheku's crime record. She was probably the one with the lowest status in her mother's family among the concubines in the entire Qing Dynasty. With this condition, she can only act as a court lady and do some rough and heavy work. The chance of contacting the emperor is naturally much less than that of other court ladies. But she was favored by the emperor and gave birth to a prince, which shows that her own conditions are very superior, and she is an outstandingly beautiful woman. The old man of Yanbei said in "The Secret History of the Palaces of the Thirteen Dynasties in the Qing Dynasty": "The beauty is crowned with a palace, and it is extremely favored."These legends are not credible, but at least it reflects that Wei Shi is indeed a beautiful and outstanding woman, not only famous in the palace, but also among the people. In the 39th year of Kangxi, she was conferred the title of concubine together with the Guerjia family (the imperial concubine Dunyi).Kangxi died on November 50th in the 40th year of Kangxi, and he was over [-] years old.
