Chapter 1 Preface
I also used to think my memory was bad
I graduated from the Faculty of Science and Medicine at the University of Tokyo, which has always been known for its difficult exams.Since graduation, more than 1000 candidates have been guided.Even so, I used to think I had a bad memory. However, looking back now, the so-called bad memory was just what I thought was the case at the time, but in fact it may not be.

I remember when I was a child, my mother took me for a walk by the nearby river almost every day, and told me the names of various plants on the roadside.Of course, my mother does not know the names of all plants. Therefore, after taking a walk and returning home, I often look up the book "Plant Illustrated Book" by myself to see what the names of those plants are.

In the process of looking up the names of plants, I gradually memorized these names. This made me very excited, so I wanted to memorize the entire "Plant Illustrated Book".Sure enough, so many plant names were quickly memorized.

Even so, I don't think I have a great memory.why?Because although I can recite the "Plant Illustrated Book" easily, I can't recite the same series of "Historical Illustrated Book".At the same time, I have no urge to remember it at all.I always feel that memorizing "History Illustrated Book" is as offensive as memorizing those textbooks that should have been put into the coffin long ago. This may have something to do with my liking for science and not being good at social science.

In this case, I, who hate rote memorization, labeled myself "not good at memorizing".

The moment when you experience the fun of memory for the first time
At that time, I was such a person who was "not good at memory". It was not until the third and fourth grades of elementary school that I was freed from the curse of memory.

My breakaway was reading the book Tony Buzan on Brain Health by Tony Buzan. To be honest, before reading this book, I also read several books on the law of memory and the like. However, at that time, I thought that the so-called mnemonic tricks were just crooked ways and not worth trying at all. However, after reading the book "Tony Buzan on Brain Health", I feel completely different.

The book teaches a way to remember words easily: connect ten words with numbers and memorize them.I gave it a try and it turned out to be memorized without breaking a sweat! This gets me so excited.I can't help but try again and again many times.

"Memory is amazing! Memorization is so fun!" I felt this way for the first time in my life.

Taking this incident as an opportunity, I began to read various books about the rules of mnemonics, and personally challenged various mnemonic methods.

①Tony Buzan, born in 1942, is a famous British brain expert, mnemonic expert, and psychologist. He is affectionately called "Mr. Brain".More than [-] million people around the world have benefited from the "mind map" he invented.

②The Japanese version of "Tony Buzan Talks about Brain Health" by Tony Buzan was translated by Sato Tetsu and published by Tokyo Book Publishing House.

There is no limit to human memory
I am constantly accumulating all kinds of knowledge about memory. In the process, I discovered the fact that there is no limit to human memory.

We can really remember many, many things. In fact, we also remember a lot of things. For example, my name, birthday, memories of kindergarten, elementary school, friend’s name, friend’s address, route to friend’s house, shops along the way, names of relatives, places I visited with friends, where what happened, and so on.

Our memory capacity is so large that if we want to write all our current memories, I am afraid that we will never be able to finish it.

As we age, our memory improves
The more things we remember, the stronger our memory will be.

For example, let's think back to when we first moved into a new residence. In the beginning, everything was strange, and we couldn't even remember the way home. However, once we know where something is, we can remember "△△ next to ○○" and "□□ behind △△".In this way, after connecting things that have not been remembered with things that have been remembered, we can absorb new knowledge at a faster speed.

In other words, the more knowledge and experience we accumulate, the easier it is to improve our memory.Memory In other words, as we grow older, our memory will gradually improve.

People often say that they have such a good memory when they were young, but now... Actually, we can't just say that we are "Wang Xiaoer's Chinese New Year, every year is not as good as one year".

Actually, I'm in my thirties now, but I think my memory is still at its best compared to when I was a kid.Don't think that "my memory is not good" like I used to think. No matter what kind of knowledge, as long as it is useful to us now, we can all remember it.We have the ability to do so.

But then again, even if we have such an ability, if we don't use it correctly, the ability will still not be able to be used. This is like using a copier. If the original is not placed in the correct position, but placed on the cover of the machine, no matter how many times the start button is pressed, the original cannot be copied. The same goes for mnemonics. If you get it wrong, you'll have to lament your poor memory forever...

The mnemonics that will be introduced in this book are all my own personal practice. Many of my students have also applied them in practice with good results.I hope you can feel your innate unlimited memory by understanding the "memory method" introduced in this book!
