Chapter 4 "Four Great Monks" join Yuewanghui
In the last years of the Qing Dynasty, political corruption was utterly entrenched, internal and external troubles frequently occurred, all industries withered, and the people were in dire straits.Chinese people do cattle and horse work and eat pig and dog food, so there is no hope!

Officials forced the people to rebel, and the people had to rebel.During the rule of the Qing Dynasty, for more than 200 years, peasant uprisings came and went one after another, ranking ahead of all dynasties in terms of scale and frequency.Heart-digging, skinning, half-cutting, maiming, pit-killing, massacring the city, the Qing government's heinous and bloody suppression did everything possible, but it could not stop the people's struggle for survival and dignity. The blood dyed the earth red over and over again, not only did not make the people who did not want to be slaves yield, on the contrary, it opened the eyes of the people. In the late Qing Dynasty, peasant uprisings and revolutionary uprisings appeared together, forming a new upsurge. The Taiping Rebellion was like a volcanic eruption, sweeping across the vast areas of southern China, and severely hurt the Qing government; The Gang uprising and other nine uprisings, like an old punch, beat the Qing government to the ground, crumbling...

Wang Yaqiao is not the kind of person who goes with the flow. The blood of youth is rushing and agitating day and night in his chest. His first failure in the imperial examination made him no longer interested in fame. He is also unwilling to work at sunrise and rest at sunset like his parents. It's hard to make ends meet, but to be a good citizen.

In the late Qing Dynasty, when the Jianghuai area was in turmoil, Li Yuanfu (Li Hongzhang's distant nephew) established a regiment defense bureau in the form of a security team in Zhongxingji.Zhongxingji is located in the northeast of Modian, less than 10 kilometers away from Wang Xiaoyingzi. 18-year-old Wang Yaqiao went alone despite his parents' objections. Li Yuanfu took him in and became a secretary, responsible for drafting various manuscripts.During this period, he met his peers Wang Qingquan, Tang Youwen, and Zheng Shaocheng, and established the "Righteous Qi Society", hoping to share life and death, share adversity, and do a great cause that shakes the world and weeps ghosts and gods. The four were young and vigorous, with shaved heads, and wandered around Wushan Temple, Liangyuan, Cuozhen, and Xiangdaobu in Feidong, Shouzhou, and Dingyuan all day long. They are called the "Four Great Monks".At that time, I didn't make much money, but there were enough bullets in the warehouse, so I could practice casually. The "Four Great Monks" refused to accept anyone, and whenever they had time, they went to the shooting range to practice shooting at the burning incense, and the loser was treated. After a year, the marksmanship of the four brothers has been perfect.Subsequently, Wang Qingting, Wang Haiqing and other peers also came to join.

Zheng Shaocheng, named Qianpei, was born in Wushanmiao, Shouzhou (now Wushan Town, Changfeng County). His parents died early, and he took his younger brother Zheng Baozhen (1897-1954, named Yijian) with him every time he participated in the "Zhengqi Society" activities.Zheng Baozhen and his elder brother depend on each other for life, and they never talk too much, but they are smart and kind, and are deeply loved by everyone.Wang Yaqiao is 8 years older than him. Every time we meet, he stretches out his arms, hugs him, and says cheerfully, "Brother, let me see if you have gained weight or lost weight." He put meat in his bowl, "Eat more, grow up quickly, and fight the world with your brother!"

That summer, Xu Xiyong returned home from Nanjing for the summer vacation. His family is in Xiaogaoying, south of Ershilibu, Feidong. His father, Xu Shaoting, passed the martial arts examination and became the commander of the artillery of the green battalion. He is very famous in the local area.Xu Xiyong was well-grown, with thick eyebrows and big eyes, and the black beard on his cheeks made him even more aggressive. His classmates called him "Big Beard".He is also a student of Zhang Shilai, and he is a good buddy with Wang Yaqiao. On the second day after returning home, he went to Zhongxingji to visit Wang Yaqiao.Wang Yaqiao smiled happily, and immediately invited him to a hotel, called Wang Qingquan, Tang Youwen, Zheng Shaocheng and other brothers, and ordered the special dishes of Feixi, salted salted salted duck, braised beef with persimmon trees, dried salted pig's ear skin, Li Hongzhang's chowder and old hen soup. Sanhe rice wine.Everyone drank happily and talked very much.

Zheng Baozhen was too young to drink, so he was in charge of pouring wine.Whoever can drink, he will pour more; for those who are not strong enough to drink, pour less.Wang Yaqiao picked up a piece of sauced beef, stuffed it into his mouth, touched his round head, and said, "Three-year-old looks old. I hold my brother and watch people pour wine. He is very scheming. I can guarantee that this little brother will grow up." He must be a rare talent when he grows up!"

Zheng Baozhen chewed the beef, his cheeks puffed up like a squawking frog.

Xu Xiyong studied abroad and was well-informed.He vividly described the process of his participation in the Yuewang meeting.

In February 1905, Anhui Public School opened in Wuhu.Wuhu is located in the middle section of the Yangtze River and is one of the four major rice markets in China. At the beginning of the semester, the first batch of students enrolled more than 2 students.Chen Duxiu, Liu Shenshu, Tao Chengzhang (the main leader of the Restoration Association), Zhou Zhenlin (the main member of the Huaxing Association), Zhang Bochun, Su Manshu, Xie Wuliang, Jiang Tonghou, etc., were all hired as teachers by the principal Li Guangjiong, Bai Wenwei Became a physical education teacher. "For a while, revolutionary leaders from various places gathered in Wuhu, attracting many young people and causing a sensation in Wuhu society. Anhui Public School became the center of the revolutionary movement in the Zhongjiang River Basin at that time, and it also became the summary of the cultural movement in the Zhongjiang River Basin."

Chen Duxiu (1879-1942), courtesy name Zhongfu.A native of Huaining, Anhui. When he was 2 years old, his father died of illness; when he was 6 years old, he studied the Four Books and Five Classics with his grandfather. He passed the examination as a scholar, but he didn't like fame. In 1901, he entered the Tokyo Specialized School (the predecessor of Waseda University) at his own expense, and later entered Chengcheng School (the preparatory department of the Japanese Non-commissioned Officer School) to study. He and others organized a patriotic and anti-Qing group, the China Youth Association, and called them brothers and sisters with Huang Xing, Chen Tianhua, Zou Rong, Zhao Sheng (1881-1911, Zi Boxian, Dantu, Jiangsu) and other anti-Qing backbones.Their activities were restricted by Yao Yu, the supervisor sent by the Qing court.

One night, Chen Duxiu, Zhang Ji, Zou Rong and others knocked on the door of Yao's house.Yao Yu thought that they had changed their minds and that they could take this opportunity to "brainwash" these young people again, so he served fruit, made good tea, and received them warmly.Chen Duxiu had an enthusiastic conversation with him, and seeing the opportunity, he winked.Zhang Ji and Zou Rong jumped up from their seats and twisted one of Yao Yu's arms alone. Chen Duxiu took out the scissors from his bosom and cut off his braid with a click. Then, amidst Yao Yu's wailing, several people burst out laughing. That night, Yao Yu's braids were displayed in the International Student Union Hall, with a line of big characters written beside them: "Public Enemy of Overseas Students, Yao's Braids."

In the Qing Dynasty, braids were a symbol for the imperial court to judge whether a man was loyal or not.In Japan, being cut off has another meaning: "Anyone whose braids are cut, or a woman who is suspected of stealing someone else's house, is an adulterer, or is regarded as a 'traveling foreign country', and is regarded as a 'Japanese woman'. evil'."

Soon, the Japanese government deported Chen Duxiu, Zhang Ji, and Zou Rong at the request of the Qing government's consulate in Japan.

Back in Anqing, Chen Duxiu still went his own way.At that time, Tsarist Russia sent heavy troops to invade and occupy Northeast China in an attempt to turn Baishan Heishui into "Yellow Russia".The Chinese launched a massive anti-Russia movement.

One day, Chen Duxiu and others came to the library building at the corner of Xiaosu Road in Anqing City (now where Anqing TV Station is located), and held a patriotic speech against Russia. The 24-year-old Chen Duxiu was the first to take the stage. He was of medium height, with a dark complexion, a round face and a large forehead, especially those big eyes, which were like two sparks, shining brightly. In his speech, he shouted loudly: "If my government agrees to this agreement, all countries will insist on the idea of equal interests and carve up China; if they don't, they will go to war with Russia. The enmity between our country and Russia is hard to resolve. A person who does not fight to the death with Russia is not a husband!...Since we have a little understanding, and then abandon it, there will be no one in the four hundred trillion people in Shenzhou! Therefore, although we are a minority in the country, we will try our best to take care of state affairs .”

More than 300 young students from Anhui Higher School, Anhui Wubei School, Tongcheng Middle School, Fengming Middle School and other new schools were deeply infected and praised Chen Duxiu as a "true hero".Then, more than 20 people including Wang Guozhen, Bai Wenwei, and Pan Zanhua, the "Queen of the Schools", took the stage one after another and made generous speeches, causing a sensation in the provincial capital.

However, the Qing court was very afraid of the student movement, believing that they were "resisting Russia in name, but revolution in fact".Therefore, the library was closed, and the school expelled Bai Wenwei (1876-1947, courtesy name Liewu, from Baijiazhai, Shouxian County), Zheng Zancheng (1877-1914, from Zhengyangguan, Shouxian County) who participated in the speech meeting, and Anhui Wubei School. His students Chang Hengfang (1882-1950, style name Erqi, nickname Fanhou, from Baoyi Town, Shou County), Xiong Chengji (1887-1910, from Dongguan Street, Yangzhou, Jiangsu Province), Fan Chuanjia (1873-1908, from Kaihuang Township, Shou County) ) and Zhu Yunshan (1887-1981, style name Xifan, from Lu'an, Anhui), a student of Anhui Higher Patrol Academy, Chen Duxiu was wanted and fled to Shanghai.

Patriotic sin?Chen Duxiu, Bai Wenwei and other Jianghuai sons and daughters gradually realized that the Qing government was extremely corrupt during the struggle. In the summer of 1905, based on their classmates and fellow villagers, they founded the Yuewanghui with the purpose of violently overthrowing the Qing Dynasty. The president, Chang Hengfang and Bai Wenwei served as the branch ministers of Anqing and Nanjing. The key members included Zhang Huitao (1882-1920, from Jiangou Township, Shou County) and Yuan Jiasheng (1878-1960, from Lishu Township, Shou County) , Zhang Shuhou (1866-1935, named Zhiping, from Wabu Town, Shou County), Wang Shaojiu (from Huainan, Anhui), Fan Chuanjia, Shi Dekuan (1885-1911, from Shijiaji, Shou County), Xue Zhe (1883-1908, Shou County), Zhang Jinfu, Cheng Liang (1883-1911, from Huaiyuan, Anhui), Song Yulin (1879-1911, from Huaiyuan, Anhui), etc. Most of the members of the branch of the Anqing Yue Wanghui were middle- and lower-level officers and soldiers of the new army such as Xiong Chengji.According to the request of President Chen Duxiu, Chang Hengfang, Xiong Chengji and others secretly distributed pamphlets among the officers and soldiers of the new army, such as "Menghuihui", "The Alarm Bell", and "Revolutionary Army", spreading the ideas of prospering the Han Dynasty, opposing the Qing Dynasty, and democratic republic.

Xu Xiyong picked up his wine glass and said to everyone: "Chen Duxiu, Bai Wenwei, and Chang Hengfang are collectively known as the 'Three Heroes of Yuewanghui'. They are all righteous men who sacrificed their lives and devoted themselves to death. Once, Chang Hengfang talked to me alone and said : "The name of our organization is called Yue Wanghui, which means worshiping the hero Yue Fei's spirit of serving the country with loyalty. ... There are only about 30 people who participated in the organization. The charter is against the Qing government. After we draft the charter , There are many irrelevant words mixed in the words, so that outsiders can't see it, in order to prevent leakage. The first meeting was in Wuhu Guandi Temple, burning incense and kowtow, and reading the oath. I rented two houses in Wuhu as a contact Center. When we communicate, we all use fake names.’ He hoped that I would also join the Yuewanghui and do my duty for the country. I felt it was my duty to do so, so I agreed! He also hoped that more good brothers would join the Yuewanghui. Let's work together and work hard." After saying that, he raised his neck and drank it all in one gulp.Because of the hot weather and the small house, his face was covered with sweat, and his vest was also wet with sweat.

"Happy! Beard." Wang Yaqiao also drank a cup.

The others drank the wine one by one.

"Honestly, go to the boss and ask for a pair of chopsticks." Wang Yaqiao thought for a while and said.

Zheng Baozhen froze for a moment, said nothing, went out immediately, turned around and took back a handful of bamboo chopsticks, and put them in front of Wang Yaqiao.

Wang Yaqiao didn't speak, he broke one chopstick first, and looked at everyone; he took two chopsticks, broke it, and looked at everyone again; he grabbed five chopsticks, and broke them with all his strength. In the end, he held more than a dozen chopsticks in his left and right hands, gritted his teeth and stared, but he couldn't break them.He threw the chopsticks on the table and made a "crash" sound.

He stood up, rubbed his hands, and said: "One chopstick is easy to break, but ten chopsticks are hard to bend. To do great things, you must unite. Unity is powerful, and unity is not afraid of the sky. Our Zhengqi Academy worships Wen Tianxiang, Wen Tianxiang and Yue Fei are patriotic national heroes. Zhengqi Institute and Yuewanghui have the same purpose. If brothers have no objections, we, the "Four Great Monks" will join Yuewanghui collectively from now on, vowing to overthrow the dictatorship regime!"

Wang Qingquan, Tang Youwen, Zheng Shaocheng and others stood up unanimously and agreed.

Seeing the solemn faces of his brothers, Zheng Baozhen said, "I want to attend the 'Medicine King Meeting' too!"

Wang Yaqiao looked at him and asked, "Are you participating too? You are still a child."

"I'm 11 years old, and I'm still a half-assed (dialect, boy)."

"Well, let me ask you a question, it's very simple. If you can answer it, you can participate, if you can't answer it, just forget it."

"Then... then you can ask."

"Let me ask you, who is Lord Yue?"

"This... who doesn't know about this. Lord Yue is the 'Lord of Medicine', and his name is Sun Simiao!"

"What? Prince Yue's name is Sun Simiao?"

"That's right, Lord Yue's name is Sun Simiao. My elder brother took me to the Temple of the King of Medicine in Shouzhou. I know that he is a miracle doctor. He cures diseases and saves people with medicine... If you don't believe me, just ask my elder brother."

Zheng Baozhen's words amused everyone. It turns out that in the local dialect, Yue and Yao (yuè) have the same pronunciation, and Zheng Baozhen confused Yue Wangye with Yao Wangye.
