Chapter 25 Cultivate a Pure and Tranquil Mind with the Buddha’s Heart——A Taste of Zen and Tea, a Realm of All Saints (1)
Become connected with Buddha, always cultivate your heart

Foreword

The world is like a dream.

As the battle turns and the stars move, the light shakes and the shadows become chaotic.

I opened my curious eyes wide and took a serious look at the world.

Why is the world always in trouble?

Why aggregation and discrete?
Why do wicked people live long?
Why do good people always suffer?

Why is it hard to wake up from a nightmare and hard to realize a good dream?
Why is happiness always accompanied by suffering?

Is all this the helplessness of life and the inevitability of fate?

What is fate?Do you know your destiny?Who do you think is in charge of fate? When a person is born, is his fate arranged by God?What is fate?Is everything that happens in a person's life predestined? Is palmistry really a fortune teller? Can you really count your life by looking at your face? Can the horoscope really be accurate? Is Zhouyi gossip really accurate?Buddhist karma spirit? Why are many wicked people not rewarded? ...

The Buddhist "Three Worlds of Karma Sutra" says:

If you want to know the cause of the past, the recipient of this life is.

If you want to know the future, the author of this life is.

That is to say, whatever cause a person planted in the past, he will get the result in this life, and what kind of cause a person planted in the present life will get the result in the future.Obviously, according to the cycle of karma, people create their own destiny.

It was not until I passed the old age when I studied Buddhism that I realized that if a person wants to understand life, change his destiny, and live a happy life, it is very necessary to read a little bit of Buddhist scriptures and know a little bit of Buddhist principles, because the Dharma is condensed to a certain extent. Great wisdom inherited by human civilization for thousands of years. Moreover, the many confusions, troubles and pains in life may be just as Liang Shuming, a great scholar of the generation, said, "Zen knows the answer".

When a person is on a journey, there is nothing more tiring than running for one's life, nothing more fearful than being lost, and nothing more painful than a boundless sea of suffering. Therefore, we need to learn to adjust, plan, operate, and feel, and appreciate the scenery on the road of life with a calm heart.

Perhaps, when you read this volume page by page, you will realize: with a heart of cause and effect, you will accumulate more kindness; with a heart of normalcy, you will be more calm; , you will be more connected to the source; with a heart of tolerance, you will be more broad; with a heart of practice, you will be more intelligent.A gentleman has no roots, he seeks from within, enjoys pure happiness, makes good connections, sees his nature clearly, and completes his merits and virtues.

May we fellow practitioners encourage each other, read Buddhist scriptures, know Buddhist principles, and use Buddhist teachings to change ourselves for the sake of creating a harmonious and civilized society and a harmonious and civilized earth, so as to achieve a perfect and harmonious life.

——Ye Zhou

Everlasting happiness, I am pure, the Buddha nature is originally pure

To build a huge house, doors and windows must be opened for the circulation of light and air.Only in this way can people live and support people, make people open-minded, and have smooth access to inside and outside without hindrance. From this, it is explained that the practice of "cleaning away mysteries, and being able to be flawless" requires opening up the spirit, dwelling in it quietly, keeping knowledge and hearing clean and doing nothing.

The greatest blessing in life is happiness.I don't know if you still think so?

Among the blessings of Buddhism, the rare one is called "Qing Fu".Master Jingxin is a Buddhist, so he preaches "Qingfu".If we can understand Qingfu, understand Qingfu, and enjoy Qingfu, then the blessings are truly boundless, and wisdom must also grow accordingly.Mr. Nan Huaijin wrote a short article "Qingfu is the most difficult", which talks about the true meaning of "Qingfu".The full text is as follows:
Let me tell you a story. In the Ming Dynasty, there was a man who knelt in the courtyard every night to burn incense and worship the sky. This is a Chinese religion—worshiping the sky. Anyway, the Buddha is in the sky, and the gods, Guan Gong, and Avalokitesvara are all in the sky.It doesn't matter whether the western sky, the eastern sky, the southern sky, or the northern sky are all heaven, so it's the most cost-effective for him to pray to the sky, as long as he sticks of incense, he can worship every one of them. This person has worshiped for 30 years and is very sincere.

One night, a god was touched, and he stood in front of him, shining all over his body.Fortunately, he was not intimidated, the god said: You pray to the sky every night, very sincere, what do you ask for?Come on, I'm leaving now.The man thought for a while and said, "I don't ask for anything. I just want to have food and clothes for the rest of my life. I won't be poor. With a little more money, I can travel in the mountains and rivers. I don't have any pain. I don't want to die."The god heard this and said, "Oh, what you asked for is the blessing of the gods in the upper world; if you ask for fame and wealth in the world, if you want to be a big official and make a lot of money, you can agree to it, but the gods in the upper world are pure blessings." , I can't give you anything.

Who can say that a person has no worries about food, clothes, money, and all the good places in the world in his life? With a high status, he is so busy that he doesn't even have time to listen to the "Diamond Sutra". How can he have this kind of happiness? Therefore, Qingfu is the most difficult.Nirvana is translated into nirvana. Although it contains the principle of pure happiness, it is not easy for ordinary people to accept. In fact, Nirvana is a state, that is, the state of "perpetual bliss and self-purification", a world of ultimate bliss. That is the "I", the real "I" of our life.

Qingfu is the blessing of simplicity, the blessing of leisure, the blessing of elegance, and the blessing of ordinary life. However, as the author said, "If you want to say that a person has no worries about food, clothing, money, and good places in the world, who can do it?

In the Qing Dynasty, Shenjun Wang Yinxi was very good at composing poems. He once wrote a woodcutter song, saying:
"I don't hear the sound of people, but I hear the sound of the axe. The lonely rocks are sweet, and the birds are startled. Get firewood for wine, get drunk and return to Tayue. Folk songs are clear, friends, trees and stones, without fading glory, white clouds and flowing water from dawn to dusk, mountains and deserts Guangqing."

"If you get firewood for wine, you will return to Tayue Folk Song when you are drunk; if you are friends with wood and stone, there will be no decline." This is Qingfu, which is envied by many meat-eating friends. As the king of the county, Yinxi loves elegance very much. His older brother Yinzhen——Yongzheng has been addicted to the emperor, jealous, suppressed, and killed; but he travels in mountains and rivers, recites poems and paints, and makes a big show of himself Lay.

He wants to enjoy happiness. And he also awarded this blessing to the woodcutter who "friends wood and stone, no decline and glory". "Get firewood for wine, get drunk and go to the moon", the blessing is indeed very good, but this only shows the leisurely mood of talented scholars. In fact, a woodcutter who cuts wood on the mountain every day with two arms and a hatchet does not understand. They only know how to get firewood for rice, and return to the moon when they are hungry. But if you want to say this, this is not a blessing, but a bit like poverty.

It is a philosophy that it is hard to enjoy happiness.Precisely because it is difficult to enjoy happiness, the standard of "blessing" has to be lowered. The standard of happiness in the eyes of different people is different, and it is incomparable and incomparable between people. No matter what others think, as long as you have a frank and happy heart and a contented attitude, you will have a happy world.Although there is not much money, no power, no great reputation, but in a down-to-earth life, strive to have an ordinary, peaceful and rich life mentality, and strive to spend every day in happiness, this is to enjoy the happiness .

The Buddha said that those who are content are still peaceful and happy even if they sleep on the ground; those who are not satisfied are not satisfied even if they are in heaven.

why?If a man intends to be dissatisfied, nothing can satisfy him.Because he can always find something he is not satisfied with.Just like the princess in a fairy tale, there were more than a dozen soft quilts on the bed, but a broad bean was put under the quilt, and she was so burned that she couldn't sleep all night.Of course it's because of her soft skin, but it's also the fault of dissatisfaction. On the contrary, a contented farmer can sleep very soundly when lying on the grass after working, using the sky as a quilt and the ground as a bed.

Enjoyment requires a certain material basis, but no matter how abundant material resources are, it does not mean that you have enjoyed it.The rich don't necessarily get more enjoyment than the poor, at least when it comes to sleeping. The same is true in other ways.An American scholar once conducted a survey on the "happiness index". He was surprised to find that the happiness index of American citizens is not higher than that of the residents of African primitive groups. The United States is the richest country in the world, and the material conditions of the original African residents are very poor. Why is the happiness index of the latter not lower than that of the former?I'm afraid it's still contentment!

The Buddha also said that a dissatisfied person is rich but poor; a contented person is poor but rich. This seems like a paradox, but it's not. There is no limit to rich and poor. If you are as rich as Bill Gates, you can get richer; if you are as poor as a beggar, you can be poorer. Are you poor? Therefore, there is no absolute wealth or poverty. If you feel rich at this point, you are rich; if you feel poor, you are poor.

Once, an octogenarian in a small town celebrated his birthday, and local reporters also came to congratulate the birthday star.In the interview, the old man said proudly: "I am the richest person here."

A tax collector was very surprised to hear this, because he had never collected the old man's income tax.So, he came to the door and asked, "I heard that you are the richest person in this area, is that true?"

The old man answered heartily: "Yes."

The tax collector observes the residence of the old man, and it does not look very rich.He asked again: "Can you describe your wealth in detail?"

The old man said: "Physical health is my first wealth. Although I am over 90 years old, I can eat and walk, and my body is not inferior to yours!"

"Do you have any other wealth?"

"I also have a virtuous and gentle wife. We have lived together for more than 60 years. I also have several smart and filial children. People here are very envious."

"Do you have bank deposits or other securities?"

The old man answered very simply: "No."

"Do you have any other real estate?"

The old man's answer is still no.

The tax collector stood in awe.He said sincerely: "Old man, as you said, you are the richest person in our town. Moreover, no one can take away your wealth. Even the government can't collect your property tax."

In terms of material wealth, this old man is not the richest.Because he has the most contented heart, he is indeed the richest man.It can also be said that he has a rich heart.

On the contrary, if you have a poor heart, no matter how much wealth you have. Also a poor man.

There is a story recorded in Buddhist scriptures:
There was a good grower who occasionally got the rarest and most precious golden box made of sandalwood in the world, which was priceless. He announced in public: "I want to give this treasure to the poorest people in the world."

As a result, many people flocked, including beggars, disabled people, orphans and widowed old people. They told their sufferings one after another to prove that they are the poorest people. But the elder replied to each of them: "You are not the poorest person in the world!"

Everyone was surprised: the poorest people in the whole country are here, is there any poorer people there? The elder said, "I tell you, our king is the poorest man in the world."

The news quickly reached the ears of the King of Persia. He was very angry and ordered his subordinates: "Go and find that man!"

The elder was soon brought before the king of Persia.King Pasenadi led him to the treasury where the treasures were stored, opened a door, pointed to the yellow gold and asked, "Do you know where this is?"

The elder said: "This is a vault for storing gold."

The King of Persia opened another door, pointed to the shining silver and asked, "Do you know where this is?"

"This is the treasury where the silver is kept."

The King of Persia opened another door, pointed to the shining treasure inside and asked, "What is this place?"

"This is a treasury of treasures."

The King of Persia asked loudly: "My house is full of gold, silver and treasures, but you spread rumors that I am the poorest person in the world!"

The elder smiled and said: "Your Majesty, you are the one in charge of the world, not a small warehouse official. Why do you show off these treasures to me? The rise and fall of the country is your family business, the wealth of the people is your clothes, and the reputation of the people is yours." Is your face. Your coffers are full of gold and silver and pearls, yet I have seen thousands of beggars, cripples, orphans and widowed old people without relief, destitute, living in On the line of life and death. The condition of their lives, their complaints about life, prove that the king of this country is a man in rags and filth. Can you say that you are not the poorest man in the world?"

The King of Persia bowed his head and said with shame on his face: "You are right. I am indeed the poorest person in the world!" He immediately ordered the formulation of a relief policy, and opened his treasury to relieve the poor and weak. All the people in the whole country praised the king for his wisdom.

A man who is satisfied with possessing as much wealth as he can possess is a very poor man, whatever his wealth may be.The greatest value of wealth is to invest in legitimate causes to create greater social value and thereby realize your own life value. For a person who understands this principle, making money is only his job, a practice, and a game, from which he can get the greatest satisfaction and the most pleasant spiritual experience.Such people are the real rich.

Movement is the root of troubles, no movement is worse than stillness

Disputes between right and wrong in the world are becoming more and more dynamic and develop in various aspects, and there is no absolute standard. "There is right and wrong, and you lose your mind." Only when the spirit in the center lives forever, and does not fall on any side of existence or non-existence, virtual or real, naturally you can not bend one side, and you can see the constant light and see the light.

For everything in life, there are only four angles in reading "Book of Changes": good, bad, regret, and miserliness. How did this good and bad regret come from? There are two sentences in the "Book of Changes": "For good and bad luck, those who regret are stingy, and those who are ignorant."

Everything in life, any one thing, has good and bad at every move.Besides any movement, there are three out of four bad ingredients, and only one out of four good ingredients, so the old Chinese saying goes, one motion is not as good as one stillness. In everything that happens, only one quarter of it is auspicious, and three quarters of it is bad, but two of these three are troubles, dangers, and difficulties, that's all. This clarifies the truth of the universe, the truth of life, and the truth of career, so Confucianism knows how to be cautious. To move is to change. It is not impossible to change something, such as starting a business or making a new creation, but it requires wisdom and careful consideration. That's why there is an old saying in China: A moment of movement is not as good as a moment of stillness. It is also what the master called "the central imaginary spirit dwells forever".Because "the disputes between right and wrong in the world are becoming more and more dynamic and develop in various aspects. There is no absolute standard."

According to Song Zhang Duanyi's "Gui Er Ji" volume: Emperor Xiaozong of the Southern Song Dynasty went to Tianzhu and Lingyin to worship Buddha one day, passed by Feilai Peak, and asked the accompanying monk Seng Hui: "Since it is flying, why not fly away?" Seng Hui Confrontation: "It is better to be still than to move." Generally speaking, Buddhism opposes karma caused by reckless movement of body, speech, and mind. There is a saying in Buddhism that "wisdom arises from steadiness".Later, he quoted "one movement is worse than one stillness", which means that there is no need to do more, and one thing more is worse than one thing less.

In Ancient Culture Street, there was an old man who made clay figurines. His words were admirable. The old man made a clay figure for a customer on the spot, and agreed on the style and price in advance. The old man pinched it very well, but the customer thought his clay figure had no arms.

The customer said: "Hey, old man, is this me? Why don't you have an arm!"

The old man said: "Sir, it has been agreed in advance that there are no arms for pinching portraits."

The customer said: "Hey, I want an arm!"

The old man said: "Sir, one more thing is worse than one less thing. A portrait with arms doesn't look good."

The customer said: "Does adding arms add money? I have money, but I am afraid of spending money!"

The old man said, "Yes, sir, an extra arm will cost 10 yuan"

The customer said: "What about adding an arm?"

The old man said: "Sir, this is called the fairy guiding the way."

The customer said: "Hey, what about adding two arms?"

The old man said, "Sir, this is Quanhe people."

The customer said: "Hey, if I add three arms!"

The old man looked at him: "Sir, this is called too lucky."

The customer said: "Hey, if I add four arms!"

The old man said, "Sir, this is inseparable."

The customer said: "Hey, if I add a thousand arms!"

The old man smiled: "Sir, this is called Avalokitesvara."

The customer said: "Hey, if I add [-] arms!"

The old man said, "Sir, this is called unity of purpose."

The customer said: "Hey, you old man really can't ask. I ask you, why is one thing more than one thing less?"

The old man said: "Sir, making clay figurines is like making things, one more part means one more chance of damage."

The customer said: "Hey, you are right, I have convinced you."

The old man said, "Sir, how many arms do you want to pinch?"

The customer said: "Hey, I don't want my arm anymore."

The old man said, "Please pay, sir."

The customer took his clay figure and left contentedly. The old man's calm answer was really admirable. The old man smiled and said to everyone: "Everyone! It's not that I don't know how to pinch arms. Pinching portraits must be neat and neat, so that they can be preserved for a long time. What if one pinches out of ten thousand arms? This is called a defeated soldier." Everyone lol. However, the saying "one thing more is worse than one thing less" makes people keep in mind.

One thing more is worse than one thing less. From the perspective of doing things, it is not not to do things, but to be clean and tidy in doing things.British scientist Newton said: "Nature tends to be the simplest!" That is to say, we should find the most essential things from complex affairs, and not make very simple things extremely complicated. However, many people want to make very simple things extremely complicated.

One thing more is worse than one thing less. From the essence of Nan Huaijin's words above, "the disputes between right and wrong in the world are more dynamic and develop in different aspects", then the world will be more harmonious.

Knowing and stopping, calming down, being able to be at ease, being able to worry, being able to obtain
A calm person must have a peaceful heart.

Stillness is the unique cultivation of knowledge and wisdom, and it is also the expression of rationality and generosity. It makes a person generous, intelligent, honest and selfless.

This samadhi does not mean that you just sit there and fall into samadhi, and you don’t know anything. It is called samadhi; your heart is fixed, your direction is clear, you don’t waver, and you walk firmly, then this is called samadhi. It became quiet.Because the mind is determined to keep moving forward. When you get closer to your true nature, your selfish desires will become weaker and your delusional thoughts will become less and less, and you will calm down. After tranquility, you can be at peace. This is equivalent to the great concentration of Buddhism. Great concentration is called tranquility, which means you are at peace no matter what state you are in.It's called peace of mind and reason. Once you get this reason, your heart will be at ease.So show that you can go with the flow.

The way of the university is to be clear and bright, to be close to the people, and to stop at perfection.Know stop and then have steadiness, steadiness and then be able to be calm, be still and then be able to be at ease, be at ease and then be able to worry, and then be able to gain after thinking! All pursuits in life have to start with the word "stop".

Know and then be able to decide.
