Buddha crossing a predestined person: Dharma and wisdom in life

Chapter 27 Cultivate a Pure and Tranquil Mind with the Buddha Mind—One Flavor of Zen Tea, One Realm

Chapter 27 Cultivate a Pure and Tranquil Mind with the Buddha’s Heart——A Taste of Zen and Tea, a Realm of All Saints (3)
More than 2500 years ago, the great Buddha understood the truth of the universe only with the wisdom of the heart without any external things.It should be said that the process of the Buddha’s cultivation in the snow-capped mountains is a high-level and high-level "knowledge and stop" single-mindedness, great concentration, great tranquility, great thinking, great wisdom, and a great realm of cultivation; that is, , high-level "knowledge and stop", "quietness", "being able to be at ease", "being able to worry about", "being able to obtain"-the great state process of "obtaining the Tao" by using this practice law.

In the same way, we can also experience the state of mind experience of "knowledge", "quietness", "ability to be at ease", "ability to consider", and "ability to obtain" from our own application affairs.Such as the promulgation of a major decision in social affairs, the design of a strategic plan, the drafting of a law, the proposal of a bill that benefits the country and the people, Anbang Xingye, and so on.Its designers and planners all understand their own positioning through concentrating on "knowledge and stop", and stand firm on their due position, which is a fair and reasonable position; only with positioning and position can they be firm and unswerving, get rid of selfishness, and everything Do things with conscience and think for the sake of the public; thus, the mind will not move rashly, maintain pure motives, and naturally calm down; only with peace of mind can we think deeply about the problem objectively and calmly; if the thinking can be thorough and detailed, we will definitely get a reasonable solution. Get expected decisions.

Therefore, "knowledge stop and then have steadiness, steadiness and then calmness, tranquility and then peace, tranquility and then thinking, and thinking and then gaining."This practice and verification rule is not only the psychological cultivation rule for our self-cultivation and pursuit of moral perfection, but also an important thinking and verification rule that we must follow in our daily application affairs and all major issues of social management.It can be said that it is an objective law for people to seek great wisdom, cultivate a perfect personality, do things perfectly and correctly, and cultivate a perfect mind.

Stillness is the power of thunder in the universe
In martial arts games, those who fight aggressively at the beginning are often defeated by opponents who wait and see.Because the first movers just go their own way, attacking completely according to their own pre-designed patterns, and seldom take into account the changes of the opponent, while the waiters are to find out the opponent's routines and weaknesses, and the purpose is to know themselves and the enemy, and win with one move.

Qixiashan Temple in Qixiashan, Nanjing, is known as the holy place of the Six Dynasties and the famous ashram of thousands of Buddhas.

Qixia Mountain has the largest project of thousands of Buddha statues carved in stone. On the highest mountain that no one can climb, there is a standing Buddha statue, which is solemn and vivid.People passing by under the peak all raised their eyes and looked up.

In [-], when a believer visited Qixia Mountain, he saw a Buddha statue on the top of the mountain, and asked Zen Master Zhuo Cheng who was guiding him, "Old Zen Master, what is the name of that Buddha statue?" Zen Master Zhuo Cheng replied, "Oh. ! That Buddha statue is called Feilai Buddha!"

What the old Zen master meant was that the mountain was so high that people could not climb it to carve it, so the Buddha should have flown from somewhere else.

After hearing this, the believer asked curiously, "Since it came here, why didn't it fly away?"

Zen master Zhuo Cheng said: "A stillness is worse than a movement." The believer then asked, "Why is there 'quietness' here?"

The Zen master replied: "Since it has come, it will be safe."

Zen Master Zhuocheng's casual answer gave us a lot of inspiration. "It is better to be still than to move", what a wonderful state; "Once it comes, it will be at peace", what an affirmative life this is.

"Movement" and "quietness" have always been one of the important issues in the theory of life in traditional Chinese philosophy.Lao Tzu said: "There is no desire to be quiet." Zhuang Zi said: "There is nothing that can disturb the mind, so it is quiet." In short, if the mind can be quiet, it means no desire.This kind of state of mind can see everything, go deep into the principles of all things, and obtain the universal knowledge of the universe and the principles of "Tao".As for movement, Taoism has always seen that movement is connected with desire, and movement cannot reflect everything, so it is advocated that "a gentleman moves carefully".

No matter how messy and dusty you are outside, I won't move; the world outside is very lively, with so much information, I have a peaceful sanctuary in my chest. "Quietness" means clearness. When you are quiet, you can be clear. When you are clear, you can be clear. If you are clear, you will be smart!
The king offered a large reward to see who could paint the most peaceful and peaceful artistic conception.Some painters painted forests at dusk; others painted peaceful rivers, children playing in the sand, rainbows hanging high in the sky, and rose petals with a few drops of dew.

The king saw each piece in person, and in the end only two were selected.

The first work painted a pool of quiet lake water, the surrounding mountains and blue sky reflected on the lake surface, and the sky was dotted with a few white clouds.If you look carefully, you can also see a cottage on the left corner of the lake, with a window open, and smoke rising from the chimney, indicating that someone is preparing dinner.

In the second painting, several mountains are also drawn. The shape of the mountains is dark and rugged, and the peaks are sharp and lonely.The sky over the mountains was pitch black, and lightning fell from the clouds, as well as hail and rain.This painting is out of place with the others, but if you look closely, you can see a small crevice in the steep rock pile, and there is a bird's nest in it.Despite the violent wind and rain around him, the little swallow still squatted in the nest.

The king summoned his courtiers and awarded the first prize to the author of the second painting. His explanation was that peace and tranquility are not to be found in a place where there is no noise, no problems, no hard work.Tranquility and peace allow people to maintain a clear mind even in adversity.

There is only one true meaning of tranquility.

However, "busy" has become a key word for modern people, who push themselves too hard.Crazy work, crazy money, the results outweigh the losses.The soul is full of mortals, why not relax, calm down and savor the joy of life?Life is like tasting tea. Only when we calm down and taste carefully can we taste the fragrance of tea.Even so, Miaoyu laughed at Baoyu in the Dream of Red Mansions: "One cup is a product, two cups is a thirst-quenching fool, and three cups is drinking cows and mules." Alas... three cups are what cows and mules are, and we all regard it as The water of life is gone, so what have we become?

Today is an era of excess information, and it is also an era of restlessness and materialistic desires.Being able to sit still and read a book, listen to a song, or write a line of poetry also seems like a luxury.In fact, as long as you are calm and indifferent, and adjust your mentality at any time, you will live a full and relaxed life.

Generally speaking, Buddhism opposes karma caused by delusion in body, speech, and mind.The temple where the monks live, the Sanskrit name Aranyaka, paraphrase as a quiet place, and the Sanskrit name Dhyana, which paraphrases as meditation for the monks. The free translation of "quiet consideration" should come from "Book of Rites·University": "When you are calm, you can be quiet, when you are quiet, you can be at ease, when you are at ease, you can worry, and after thinking, you can gain." Said, and later quoted "one movement is worse than one stillness", which means that there is no need to do more, and one thing more is worse than one thing less.For example, "Jingshi Tongyan": "Besides, the water is smooth and the wind is far away. It is a hundred miles away. It is better to be still than to move. I advise you to calm down!"

The monks in Changsha strolled along the mountain trails one day with great interest.

When returning to the gate of the monastery, the head priest asked, "Master, where have you been?"

Changsha replied, "I went for a walk in the mountains."

The Chief asked again: "Where are you going?"

Changsha Sui chanted a verse: "Go and follow the fragrant grass, return and chase the falling flowers."

What a leisurely game of Samadhi's unintentional transformation.This state transcends the state of useless and useless work.

The chief said again: "It's really a spring breeze, let's take a walk in the long court!" The way is very true, which shows that the background is not shallow.

Changsha replied: "Better than autumn dew dripping lotus leaves!" The answer was also very clever, secretly suppressing the self-satisfied background of the first seat.Comfortable and natural, the image of a Zen master who is integrated with the beautiful nature is vividly presented before our eyes.

The ancient man Ji Kang's "Health Preservation Theory" has his unique views on "mind tranquility": "It is more appropriate to adjust the breath and calm the mind. It is always like ice and snow in the heart, and the heat is less than my heart. I can't turn heat into heat and generate heat." That is to say, regardless of whether it is cold in winter or hot in summer, you should be calm when you encounter problems.

Zeng Guofan, the representative of scholar-bureaucrats in the late Qing Dynasty, integrated the theories of Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism, and regarded Jingzi Kung Fu as more important.He said in his diary: The word "quiet" is important, and Master Dacheng has become a saint of three generations, and he also has a lot of skill in the word "jing".Wang Mingyang is also skilled in "quietness", so he can not be tempted.If it is not quiet, self-examination is not secretive, and reasoning is not clear, it is all superficial.He also advocated that spiritual recuperation must be carried out in three steps: meditation, calmness, and reformation.He also said: The way of self-cultivation is to cultivate the mind; the difficulty of cultivating the mind is to be cautious and alone.If you can be alone and quiet, you will be introspective and free from guilt, and you will be able to understand ghosts and gods.

Our five sense organs are all outward, and our eyes, ears, nose, tongue, and mouth are all receiving external stimuli.The world we live in emphasizes the economy, and now it is even more emphatic on the "eyeball economy". As long as it can attract attention, it can generate business opportunities-the "Supergirl phenomenon" is the best proof.

We live in a rich, splendid, busy and stressful life. Although we are materially rich, we seldom stop to give ourselves a little time to look inward and understand our true self.Debug the separated "body, mind, and thinking". As time goes by, our body gets worse. We are prone to depression, gloomy mania due to excessive stress, dizziness, and even pain due to excessive thinking.

In fact, we have many innate potentials, which have been wiped out in the busy life.In fact, you should leave some time for yourself to find your true self. You will find, experience, and trigger your own potential, and become happy, powerful, and wise.

The old master Confucius once said in the biography: "That's why there is Tai Chi, which produces two instruments, two instruments produce four images, four images produce eight trigrams, eight trigrams determine good and bad, and good and bad events produce great cause." When Tai Chi moves, there are two instruments, One is Yang and the other is Yin.That is to say, if you don’t do anything, it’s fine. As long as you do it, there will be yin and yang, good and bad, so we don’t expect life to be good forever, and we don’t have to worry about it being bad forever.Confucius further explained: "For good and bad luck, regret is stingy, and the one who moves is also the one who moves."

Why is it "better to be still" than to move?Can static win?Compared with winning with kinetic energy, winning with static is not so easy to understand.Not taking the initiative, not attacking, and not even making any moves—how can any effort be able to win?Let us go to court to see a lawsuit:
Oil merchant Rockefeller went to court because of a business dispute.Before going to court, the opposing lawyer wrote to Rockefeller's oil company many times, asking about various things.Legally speaking, the other party's lawyer has no right to ask about these matters, so Rockefeller has not given him an answer, nor is he prepared to present his original letter in court.

However, in court, the opposing lawyer talked about the inquiry letter he wrote to Rockefeller Oil Company.Whenever he mentioned when a letter was sent and what was written in the letter, the opposing lawyer would ask: "Mr. Rockefeller, please take out the letter I wrote to you that day."

After hearing this, the judge also asked, "Mr. Rockefeller, have you received that letter?"

Rockefeller said calmly every time: "Got it, Mr. Judge."

The judge then asked again each time: "Did you reply?"

Rockefeller replied with the same calm tone every time: "No."

After several repetitions, the opposing lawyer gradually became angry, while Rockefeller was calm and calm, and answered questions as if they were chatting, and did not take the other party's questions seriously at all.

The judge later asked Rockefeller: "Mr. Rockefeller, have you received all the letters he wrote to your company?"

Rockefeller still replied in a low voice: "I have received it, Mr. Judge."

The judge asked again: "Have you not replied to any letter?"

"No." Rockefeller still replied calmly.

The opposing lawyer couldn't help roaring after hearing this, and asked angrily, "Why didn't you write me back? Don't you know me?"

Rockefeller was still as calm as still water, and his tone was still gossiping: "How could I not know you? It's just that legally speaking, you have no right to ask about those things, so I didn't reply to your letter."

Hearing what he said, the opposing lawyer became even more furious, his lips trembling with anger, and he pointed at Rockefeller and shouted: "You...you...you..."

Rockefeller won brilliantly, relying on - quiet.This kind of stillness is not motionless, it is motion from motionless, since the other party has acted rashly, is it possible to dance with the other party's rash action?The other party's lawyer was making trouble out of no reason, why did Rockefeller follow suit!
The beauty of being quiet is that when the opponent is taking the initiative, attacking, or even violently attacking, you can temporarily avoid the sharp edge, hide aside, calmly observe and find the opponent's weakness, or even the dead spot, so as to win with one blow.Didn't Rockefeller make the other party "high blood pressure" with the last sentence?It is true that kinetic energy has an advantage; but it is also true that static energy can also have an advantage.

Lao Tzu said: Quiet is the king of impetuosity, and he advocates that it is better to be still than to move, but this is not to encourage people to be passive and do nothing, but to wait for the opportunity and not to move rashly.Zhuge Liang strategized throughout his life, won thousands of miles, and achieved countless great achievements, but he always maintained the calm and relaxed posture of an alchemist no matter when he was fighting against Confucians or commanding the Battle of Chibi.Educate children in the "Book of Commandments": "If you are not indifferent, you will not be clear, and if you are not peaceful, you will not be far." As a Confucian student, he can shine in Chinese history, especially Chinese military history. His wisdom benefits from the quietness of Chinese culture. Get the essence of movement.

Tranquility is not for eternal silence, it is for accumulating strength for explosion.When you look at the sea, does the surface of the sea without a trace of ripple only remind you of tranquility?Do you think there is just stagnant water beneath that tranquility?Looking at the creek that is constantly making noise, do you think it is a real surge?

Of course not, the power of the stormy sea is in that quiet gestation, and the brook can only sing the same most mediocre tune every day.Therefore, I admire those who stick to the positions they love. Their strength will eventually converge into the momentum of the sea and cause huge waves.

Tranquility is not a retreat, nor is it giving up, but a strategy of waiting to see what happens and then attacking the enemy.Doing things and living calmly is a kind of philosophical philosophy, a superb art, and a kind of great wisdom that is not surprising.

Tranquility is the end, tranquility is the essence

The highest state of Zen is no words;

The highest state of music is without words;

The highest state of love is speechless;

The highest state of life is understanding;

The highest state of a friend is silence;

The highest state of man is peace of mind.

In summer, the continuous high temperature makes people irritable, unwilling to sit down during the day, and difficult to sleep at night, which makes people miserable.Facing the scorching heat, we can't avoid it, and we have nowhere to hide.When you are troubled by the ineffectiveness of drinking ice solution in the unbearable heat, friends, you may think of a saying that people often say: calm your mind and cool naturally.

"The mind is calm and naturally cool", this statement is also scientifically justified.When excited, the secretion of adrenal hormones will increase, and the increased secretion of adrenal hormones will increase the body temperature, so when the mind is calm, the secretion of adrenal hormones will decrease, and of course people will not be so hot!

This is analyzed from a scientific point of view.In fact, what is more important is to start from the psychological point of view of the person, to calm down the heart, and the person will naturally feel cool.

We can't control the weather, but we can adjust our mentality; we can't control other people's thinking, but we can control our own thinking.If you want to be "cool", you have to calm your mind. To calm your mind, you must first have a clear mind, and then you can have a clearer mind. The two complement each other.The mind is not clear, it is difficult to get restless, and the mind is difficult to calm down.

During the Wei and Jin Dynasties, seven people including Ji Kang, Ruan Ji, and Liu Ling were friendly with each other, and they were named "Seven Sages of the Bamboo Forest".They admire Lao-Zhuang thought and live a carefree life.

Among the seven people, Ji Kang devoted himself to the landscape and returned to nature. He often played "Guangling San" on the guqin in the bamboo forest.He was the son-in-law of the royal family of Cao Wei, so he was killed by Sima Zhao who was trying to usurp power. He was only 7 years old when he died.Even so, Ji Kang's theory of health preservation is still worth learning from today.For example, regarding the extreme heat in summer, he said in "Health Preservation Theory": "It is more appropriate to adjust the breath and calm the mind. It is always like ice and snow in the heart, and the heat is less in my heart. Heat cannot be heat, and heat will be generated."

In ancient times, there were no electric fans, let alone air conditioners, unlike today's people who feel stuffy and have to turn on the air conditioners.For the hot weather, Ji Kang holds the mentality of "calmness and coolness". There is no air-conditioning in the room, but there is ice and snow in his heart, so the heat will not bully you.Don't always yell "it's so hot", this will not only fail to cool down, but will arouse internal anger and heat up the heat.

Optimism can't change the weather and the external environment, but it can make you have a good attitude to deal with it calmly.

Many people may have had similar feelings. When you calm down and think about things carefully, you are not aware of many sensory sensations outside your body. Naturally, you are not so sensitive to the heat and cold of the environment. There are meanings in this aspect, but more, it refers to the fact that people can achieve this effect through their own active regulation.

From a Buddhist point of view, calmness of mind and natural coolness refer to the mentality of human beings, a kind of consciousness that should be possessed at the deepest level of the soul when facing life.Those who understand Buddhism will often hear the term "three noes". The three noes are no worries, no regrets, and no complaints. They actually refer to people's attitudes in life.

When it comes to "three noes", it actually describes the three correct life attitudes that people should hold to the past, present and future life: don't always worry about the past, and don't always complain about the present life Therefore, there is no need to worry about things in the future, and it is really a happy and fulfilling life to live without worries, complaints, and regrets.

Although there will inevitably be many unsatisfactory things in life, but if you can achieve no worries, no complaints, no regrets, don't worry about useless things, don't let your heart get entangled in worldly fame and fortune, and let go of the past. , present, and future obstacles, face every present moment with gratitude, and face life positively with the most authentic attitude. Only in this way will you halve the worries in life and add points to happiness.

Some 300 years ago, after Milton lost his eyesight, he discovered this truth: "The use of thought, and thought itself, can make hell into heaven, or heaven into hell."

The lives of Napoleon and Helen Keller can prove how correct Milton's words are: Napoleon had everything that ordinary people can dream of-honor, power, wealth, etc., but he said to St. Helena: "In my I have never had a happy life in my life." And Helen Keller is a disabled person who is blind, deaf and dumb, but she said: "How beautiful life is!"
