Buddha crossing a predestined person: Dharma and wisdom in life

Chapter 29 Cultivate a Pure and Tranquil Mind with the Buddha Mind—One Flavor of Zen Tea, One Realm

Chapter 29 Cultivate a Pure and Tranquil Mind with the Buddha’s Heart——A Taste of Zen and Tea, a Realm of All Saints (5)
After Sakyamuni was woken up by the farmer's scolding, he sat under the bodhi tree and began to deeply reflect on himself. He threw out the things in his head one by one, like throwing out old socks and rotten shoes, and mercilessly erased all traces. Before he knew it, seven days and seven nights passed, and in his hollowed out soul, a flash of inspiration suddenly appeared!Sakyamuni finally enlightened and became a Buddha.

In this regard, he commented: It seems that without true meditation, it is impossible to have great thoughts. In other words, meditation is the source of inspiration, and meditation makes people's wisdom more penetrating.

The other is:

The ancient Bohai State was once very powerful in northern China. One year, the king of Bohai wanted to choose one of two equally outstanding young ministers to be the prime minister, so he kept them in the palace and told them respectively: "Congratulations! I will announce you as the prime minister of the country tomorrow."Then, the king asked his servants to lead them back to their respective rooms to sleep, and asked them to observe their movements carefully. One of them was so excited that he stayed up all night. And the other person walked into the bedroom soon, then fell asleep quietly, snoring from time to time, until the servant woke him up the next day.As a result, the minister who slept soundly became the prime minister, while the one who hadn't slept all night lost the election.

The king said afterwards: "When I heard that I was going to be a prime minister, I was so excited that I couldn't sleep. It shows that it is hard to do something in my heart. To be a prime minister, you must have the measure of being able to support a boat in your stomach. The mind is as calm as water, honor or disgrace is not frightened, calm when things happen, and be a man. Neither humble nor overbearing, this is the real weapon of the prime minister."

In this regard, his comment is: Meditation can improve the quality and taste of a person's life!It seems that this is also an indisputable fact.Cover the so-called meditators!Pure heart too!Meditation is a kind of energy that is continuously accumulated, and only through meditation can one accumulate a lot of energy, lift weights lightly, be personable, and have a calm demeanor!
He also said: "For a person who is not calm, we should not be a teacher or a friend. Let me compare meditation to a basket, a clean, beautiful and strong empty basket. Then, the following What about things? Of course you can go to the orchard of your life to pick the fruits you want to pick.”

There are only three to forty years of good life in this world, which is really not a long time. In the blink of an eye, I have entered the year of "destiny", but I feel that I have not lived much. It is easy to live, but it is difficult to live with quality. Human, how to live Only in order to live happily, the knowledge here is really great.I often see all kinds of troubles from friends' articles, most of which are sad, sad, full of helplessness and depression about reality, and there are not many who can really pass on their own happiness to everyone.

Want to succeed in your career and relax your mind? Then you must learn to "quiet".

There is a cup of the soul in everyone's heart-"If you use it to hold the pure water of heaven, you are a saint; if you use it to hold the wine of the earth, you are a poet; if you do neither If you are willing to give up, and want to make a more perfect nectar, you are a philosopher..." This is a passage from Zhou Guoping's collection of essays "Quietness". The emphasis and pursuit of "experience" experience and his brave abandonment of the hustle and bustle of the world - that is his perception and summary after escaping from the media for several years, and it is also a portrayal of his lofty state of mind when he withdraws from the hustle and bustle and returns to tranquility!

Roland said: "Our philosophy of life synthesizes the three schools of Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism, and the conclusion is to do things in the world with the spirit of being out of the world."Use this power to fight against selfish desires, not to pursue selfish interests, but to appreciate the beauty of the world with spare affection. This is a virtue, it is the power to beautify life.

What Taoism advocates is a high-style life realm, with the emphasis on "appreciation".Teach people to have a beautiful sentiment, know how to love nature, and advocate simplicity, tranquility, elegance, and open-mindedness.By appreciating the vastness of the universe, realizing the insignificance of oneself, and realizing that the universe and I coexist, and that material desires and I are "one" big life, people have a higher level of enthusiasm for the world. It makes people love the universe and all things, but never arrogantly wants to take the universe and all things as their own. When people understand that they are one of the universe and that the universe is one with themselves, they will naturally love all things.

Many poems and works of ancient Chinese celebrities are full of elegant Taoist thoughts, such as Su Shi's "Fixing the Storm": "...who is afraid, let the wind and rain fall for life, expect the spring breeze to wake up, slightly cold, and the mountains are slanted but still look at each other. Welcome, wave your hand to the desolate place, go back, there will be no wind and rain and no heart.”Tao Yuanming's "Drinking Poem": "The hut is in the path of people, but there are no cars and horses. How can I ask you? My heart is far away from myself. Picking chrysanthemums under the eastern fence, I can see Nanshan leisurely. The mountain air is beautiful at night and day, and the birds are with each other. Also. There is true meaning in this, and I have forgotten the words if I want to argue."

These poems memorized because of love all give people a kind of inspiration of "looking up at the sky". This state is not negative, but detached; It is to live in a quiet life with breezy wind and clouds, and feel the beauty of life from the tranquility. Who can say that such a life is not happy?

Lao Tzu said: "Enterprises can't stand up, and those who cross can't do it." Promise is not achieved only by blindly forging ahead. It is equally important to retreat as advance and meditation and introspection. What should not be overlooked is the great promise of a higher realm of life "beyond the worldly rush", and what should not be missed is the great enjoyment of "watching all things in peace" on the journey of life.

When our hearts are full of love for nature and gratitude for all things, those troubles and losses will gradually go away, and all things in the world will become our best friends. After all, we were born and raised here, and until the day we return to the earth, we will welcome death with a smile. If you are not afraid of death, what are you afraid of?
When the mind is calm, everything is content, and when the mind is moving, the differences between things appear. Therefore, to achieve the state of unity of movement and stillness, the key lies in whether our hearts have eliminated differences and chased away, and obtained silence.

Tang Xianzong was a very devout monarch who believed in Buddhism, so he sent people to Fengxiang to invite Buddha bones (relics).Han Yu came forward to stop him with admonitions, and Emperor Xianzong was furious and demoted him to Chaozhou as governor.

At that time, Chaozhou was located in the southern wasteland, and the culture and education were not prosperous, so it was very difficult to learn and ask questions. However, there lived in seclusion a Chan Master Dayian who was very educated and accomplished, and was deeply admired by the local people.

Han Yu regarded himself as a Confucian of the Tang Dynasty, so he did not think highly of Zen Master Da Dian. But here, apart from the Zen master, it is difficult to find a scholar who can discuss the Tao, so Han Yu went to visit the Zen master with a helpless and challenging mood. When Han Yu arrived, Chan Master Dayian was sitting quietly with his eyes closed. Han Yu was intimidated by the mighty virtue of the Chan Master, and stood aside unconsciously and respectfully waiting. After a long time, there was still no movement from the Zen master, and Han Yu gradually felt impatient. At this time, the disciple standing beside the Zen master said to the master:
"Move with steadiness first, then pull out with wisdom."

On the surface, this sentence seems to be said to the Zen master, but it is actually enlightening Han Yu: Zen master's meditation at this moment is a silent teaching, and it is also a test of your concentration, and then use the wisdom of words to eradicate your arrogance.

Only then did Han Yu suddenly realize that he admired the knowledge of Chan Master Dayan and believed that the way and deeds of Chan Master were really sublime.

Later, he and Zen Master Dayian became close friends and left many beautiful stories for thousands of years.

From the above-mentioned koan, we can understand that movement and stillness are one in the Zen master's state of mind, and practice is harmonious and unimpeded in teaching. When a Zen master teaches people, sometimes he does not say a word, and sometimes he roars like a lion. The Zen master's support with a word or a half, the push with a bar and a drink, the praise with a advance and a retreat, the invention of a question and an answer, the beauty of a frown and a smile, the enlightenment of a tea and a meal, and even a raise of an eyebrow, a blink of an eye, a erection. Pointing to a foot, in every movement and stillness, all are full of Zen, and all are full of Zen flavor.Movement and stillness are two completely different states, but the movement and stillness achieved through meditation are one and free.

The mind is clear, the body is like the Tathagata

Mr. Liu Zhongxing of Central China Normal University wrote this passage in his essay "Indifferent and Serene":

When a person stands up, he becomes the highest mountain in the world; when he falls down, he becomes the widest road in the world; when he bends down, he becomes the longest bridge in the world; Dangerous cliff.Life is full of joy, but behind the joy is sometimes a deep temptation.Temptation is like an invisible net, firmly ensnaring everyone who approaches it, and when that person repents and wants to leave, he is already powerless.Temptation is like drugs, devouring people's souls, distorting people's characters, and corroding people's hearts.Don't stand still in front of temptation, maybe it's just a moment, and your life will change from then on.

Indifferent to clear ambition, quiet to far.Give the soul a kind of tranquility, and give the mind a kind of serenity. The ancients said: "Don't be surprised by favor or disgrace, just watch the flowers bloom and fall in front of the court; go and stay unintentionally, look at the clouds rolling and relaxing in the sky." In this indifferent tranquility, the temptation can only be big. fled.

Indifferent to clear ambition, quiet to far.Under the temptation of fame and fortune, modern people seldom have the detachment of "picking chrysanthemums under the eastern fence and seeing Nanshan leisurely", and they often have the helplessness of "people are in the rivers and lakes and cannot help themselves".

However, man is the child of nature, and we still yearn for a peaceful sky amidst the hustle and bustle of the world, so that our impetuous mind can rest, and we can feel the beauty of nature in the alternation of spring flowers, autumn moon, summer rain, and winter snow. The soul full of secular dust can be purified and sublimated again.

Tagore once said: "If you cry because you miss the sun, you will also miss the stars." Tranquility is a rare freedom, and it is also the perception of wisdom.Tranquility is happiness.

Indifference is not mediocrity, tranquility breeds brilliance.Momentary red and purple, sudden hustle and bustle of the world are just unretainable landscapes, and unchanging indifference and tranquility are the eternal temple.

The ancient and modern history shows that only in the tempering of indifference and tranquility, can one's mind be open and broad, and one's ambition can last forever. The indifferent and tranquility comforts and purifies people, and makes people submerge themselves, free up time, work hard, and climb without distraction.

Countless great statesmen, thinkers, and scientists at all times and in all over the world have achieved their great aspirations and goals in indifference and tranquility. After the great scientists Su Buqing and Huang Kun passed away, many people did not know who they were. But it is precisely because people don't know who they are that they bring out the magnificence of their indifference and tranquility that breeds brilliance.Qiao Yu, who has written more than 3000 lyrics, expresses his aspirations with the words "A Hundred Years of Mind Returns to the Plain".

Today, one must resist the temptation of all kinds of material desires in order to live indifferently and peacefully. As the saying goes, "If you want to be light, you will have a calm mind, and if you are calm, you will see clearly", "If you are in the body, if you are not dazzled by external objects, your mind will be calm, and if your mind is calm, you will be wise and clear."

Many years ago, I read a report about Bill Gates' closed-door practice. It said that since the 80s, he has practiced twice a year, each time for a week.During this week of practice, Bill Gates refused to meet with anyone, including his own family members. No one knew what he did during these seven days, but every time he left the customs, Microsoft always made surprising moves .

Retreat, in Buddhism, simply means not having contact with foreign affairs, abandoning everything, and sitting in meditation for a long time by yourself.I think Bill Gates' so-called retreat must be because he wants to deal with work in absolute silence. This shows how important tranquility is to people.Of course, there are two words behind retreat: cultivation.Tranquility comes from the heart, and tranquility leads to tranquility.

Most of today's successful people are busy people, come and go in a hurry, have a lot of entertainment, let alone retreat, I am afraid that they don't even have the patience and time to read books. The world is full of mortals, and the world is complicated. If a person loses his pure state of mind, then gain is loss, and loss will cause worry in the heart. If the heart is not calm, everything will be disturbed. How can there be happiness?
