Zhuangzi said: "Life and death, survival, poverty, rich and poor, virtuous and unworthy, reputation, hunger and thirst, cold and heat, are the changes of things and the actions of fate." Downfall and so on are as inevitable arrangements of natural changes as the hunger and thirst of animals and the cold and heat of weather.In the eyes of Confucians who are deeply mourning, this is extremely inhumane. However, Zhuangzi regards this as a manifestation of "common fate".
Zhuangzi looked at people from the perspective of cosmology, seeing people only as a part of the whole universe, human life as a fragment of the universe, and everything about people as the development of natural nature, the inevitable role and the arrangement of fate.This is his understanding of people.He believes that by using this kind of rationality to guide and restrict people's emotions, people's disappointment, worry, and sadness will be reduced or even disappeared.In this way, people's spirits will be freed from pain and misfortune, and return to a state of happiness, relaxation and joy.
In the 30th chapter of "The Legend of Condor Heroes", when the little dragon girl met Master Yideng, they had this conversation:
Yideng said: "If my junior brother can't save me, it's because of the big numbers. There are some children in the world who die soon after they are born, and the little lady dies only after she gets married, so it's not a premature death."...Yang Guo widened his eyes Looking at a lamp, I thought: Whether Long Er can be cured is still uncertain, but you didn't say a word of comfort. (Yideng is an eminent monk who has attained Taoism, and he saw that Xiaolongnv is also a person who has attained life and death, so he said this. Although Yang Guo's martial arts are high, in terms of comprehending life and death, it seems that he is far inferior to Xiaolongnv who learned Taoism at a young age.)
Xiao Longnv smiled faintly, and said: "The master is right." Looking at the heavy snow, she said calmly, "These snowflakes are so white and beautiful when they fall. After a few days when the sun comes out, every snowflake will disappear without a trace .In next winter, there will be many more snowflakes, but it’s not the snowflakes of this year.” Yideng nodded, turned to look at Ci’en, and said, “Do you understand?” Ci’en nodded, thinking to himself Snow disappears at sunrise, and it snows in winter. What do you not understand about these superficial truths? (What Xiaolongnu said is exactly what we said above about Taoism’s meaning of infinite changes in all things. Yideng is an eminent Buddhist monk. Buddhism and Taoism often lead to the same goal by different routes, so it is not difficult to understand, while Ci’en and Yang Guo don’t even have the threshold touched.)
Yang Guo and Xiao Longnv were originally in love with each other, even the most obscure thoughts of each other are understood, but now she is talking to Yideng, but they are separated by a layer.It seems that she and Yideng are intimate with each other, but she has become an outsider instead. This situation has never happened since she fell in love with Xiaolongnv, and she can't help but feel very confused. (It seems that Yang Guo's practice in Taoism is relatively shallow, no wonder he didn't make much progress after obtaining the "Nine Yin Manual".)
Yideng took out an egg from his bosom, handed it to Xiaolongnv, and said, "Which came first, the chicken or the egg?" This is a difficult problem that no one can solve through the ages.Yang Guo thought to himself: "When life and death are at stake, why do you ask about such insignificant matters?" Xiao Longnv took the egg, it turned out to be a magnetic egg, but the color and shape were all the same.She pondered for a while, and understood what she meant, and said: "A broken egg produces a chicken, and a big chicken produces an egg. If there is life, there must be death." Gently smash the eggshell, roll out a pill, golden and round, and then Such as egg yolk.Yideng said: "Take it soon." Xiao Longnu knew that the medicine was precious, so she chewed it in her mouth and swallowed it.
