Tao Te Ching

Chapter 64

Chapter 64
[Original text]

Doing nothing, doing nothing, tasteless.

How much is the size [1]. (Reporting grievances with virtue. [2]) A picture is harder than it is easy, and it is greater than its detail.Difficult things in the world must be done in an easy way; great things in the world must be done in a small way. Therefore, the sage does not become great in the end, so he can become great.

If a husband is light on his promises, he will be seldom trustworthy. It is still difficult for a sage[3], so there will be no difficulty in the end.

【Note】

[1] How big or small: big grows from small, and many accumulate from small.

[2] "Complaint" sentence: This sentence does not fit the context and should be moved to Chapter 79.

[3] Jude: Both, both.

【Analysis】

What is done is inaction; what is done is nothing; what is tasted is dull.

All big things grow from childhood, and all many things accumulate from small things. (Repay resentment with virtue.) Difficult things should be solved when they are simple, and important things should be solved when they are small.Because the difficult things in the world must start from the simple places; the great things in the world must start from the subtle ones. Therefore, the sage never pretends to be arrogant, but can achieve his own greatness.

If you make promises easily, you will rarely keep your promises, and if you take things too easily, you will inevitably encounter many difficulties. Therefore, the sage sees all things as difficult, (because it is difficult, so he prepares for it more carefully.) So in the end, there is no difficulty that can stump those who really understand the meaning of "Tao" .

【Explanation by Famous Artists】

Mr. He Shang:
There is nothing pretentious because of what is done.No pre-equipment, eliminating troubles and saving troubles.Foresight, taste meaning also.

Chen Qi's commandment also.If you want big, turn small, if you want more, turn little, this is the way of nature.Cultivating the Tao and doing good deeds will never cause disasters in the unborn. If you want to plan difficult things, when you are easy, you will not be able to achieve them.If you want to do big things, you must do small things, and disasters and chaos come from small things. From easy to difficult, from fine to life.Be humble, and the world will belong together.

Not a tautology.Inadvertently suffer also. The sage's actions and actions are like advancing and retreating, and it is difficult to block the source.A sage has no troubles in his life, because he avoids harm deeply.
