Chapter 3 The Protagonists

Chapter 3 The Protagonists

Norse mythology mentions many gods, both male and female. You will meet some of them in the next chapters. Most of the stories are related to two gods: Odin and his son Thor.Another crucial figure is Odin's blood brother, Loki, the son of giants who lived in Asgard with the Aesirs.

Odin
The highest and oldest of the gods is Odin.

Odin knows many secrets. He sacrificed one eye for wisdom.More than this, for the wisdom and power of the rune, he sacrificed him to himself.

He was hung upside down on the World Tree known as Yggdrasil for nine days and nights. His flank was pierced with a spear and he was terribly wounded. The gust of wind attacked his upside down body. For nine days and nine nights, he did not drink a drop of water or touch a grain of rice.He hangs there alone, watching life slip away from him in excruciating agony.

In cold and pain, on the brink of death, his sacrifice bears dark fruit: in a moment of agony, he looks down—and the runic script hidden beneath reveals itself at that moment. He read it, grasped its meaning and power. At that moment, the rope broke and he fell screaming from the tree.

Now, he knows magic. Now, the world is in his hands.

Odin has several names. He is the father of the gods, the god of carnage, the god of the gallows. He was called Grimnir and Third. In different worlds, he has different names. (Because people worship different images of him in different languages. Of course, the object of worship is always him in the end.)
He is good at camouflage, he hides under the camouflage, travels from place to place. In this way, he can see the world better, just as ordinary people see it.Hiding among us he appeared to be a tall man in a cape and hat.

He has two crows, one he calls Fokine and the other Wuni, whose names mean "thought" and "memory".These two birds fly all over the world, bringing back knowledge about various things to Odin. They settled on Odin's shoulder, whispering into his ear.

As he sits on his high throne, he sees all things, wherever they occur.Nothing can escape his perception.

He brings war to the world: the throwing of the spear symbolizes the official declaration of war, and also signifies that all deaths in war will be sacrificed to Odin.If you survived, it was because of Odin's tolerance; if you died, it was because he betrayed you.

Valkyrie, the beautiful Valkyrie, is tasked with collecting the souls of the fallen in battle. If you die bravely in battle, they will take you to the place called Valhalla.Odin will be waiting for you in Valhela. There, you will fight, eat and drink heartily under his leadership.

Thor
Thor is the son of Odin, the god of thunder and lightning. He is upright and honest, not as scheming as his father Odin; he is kind-hearted, not as unpredictable as his father.

He was tall and strong, with red hair and a beard, and he was the strongest of all the gods.He has a precious girdle, a magical girdle called Meginziod that doubles his powers: while wearing it, his strength is fully doubled.

Thor's weapon is Mjolnir, a unique and unusual hammer. The hammer was made for him by the dwarves, a story I shall tell in a moment.Whether trolls, frost giants or mountain giants, the sight of Mjölnir, Thor's hammer, would shudder, for countless brothers and friends had been killed by the hammer. In addition, Thor wears a pair of iron gloves, so that he can hold the hammer handle.

Thor's mother was Joud, goddess of the earth. The sons of Thor are Modi, the god of wrath, and Mani, the god of strength.Thor's daughter is Thord, the god of strength.

His wife is blond Sev.Before marrying Thor, she had a son Uriel. So Thor is Uriel's stepfather.Uriel was the god of hunting with bow and arrow, and he always had a sledge with him.

Thor is the guardian of Asgard and Midgard.

Thor's life and his adventures were wonderful, and there are endless stories about him.In this book, I will describe some of the most interesting of them.

Rocky
Rocky is handsome and personable. He seemed very trustworthy, convincing, even likable.Yes, he looked nothing like the most scheming and mercurial fellow of all the inhabitants of Asgard.Unfortunately, there is unfathomable darkness in his heart: so much anger, so much jealousy, and so much desire.

Loki was the son of the giantess Laufey, who was also called Gnar or Needle because she was thin, beautiful and sharp.Loki's father is said to be Farbouti, a giant; his name means "deadly stormer", and Farbouti is as dangerous as his name.

Loki can walk in the sky wearing flying shoes, and he can take the shape of other people or other animals, but his real weapon is his mind.In terms of cunning and fickleness, no god or giant is his opponent, and even Odin is not as cunning as Loki.

Loki is Odin's blood brother. The other gods don't know when and how Loki came to Asgard. He is Thor's friend and the guy who betrayed Thor. The gods often put up with what he did, probably because his cunning often saved the day, just as often as he got the gods into trouble.

Rocky makes the world more interesting and less safe.He is the father of monsters, the writer of pain, the god of deceit.

Loki loves to drink, and when drinking, he can neither control his mouth nor control his thoughts and actions.Loki and his children will be there at the end of Ragnarok, and it will not be the gods of Asgard who will fight by their side.
