A Contractual Marriage with the Best Leading Actor Chapter 108

An Elder Brother is Like a Father (2)

This group of people were used to buttering up other wives of major players in the industry. However, this was their first encounter with a man as a significant other. All of them racked their brains to find something to say. “Our sister-in-law is so young.”

“Sister-in-law, I heard that you are studying in Jing University? That’s amazing, simply amazing!”

“Does our sister-in-law like hot springs? I have a private one and I invite you and Xi-ge to visit when you are free.”

They seemed to have it figured out.

Xi-ge’s availability didn’t matter, as long as their sister-in-law was free, he’d naturally be free.

Father Jiang, who was watching from the side, was about to have a heart attack. He gritted to himself, “I’m his father. This group of people would rather entertain his male wife than me…”

Father Jiang was restless. Just as he was about to walk over to find Xi Chengyun, Han Si appeared and said smilingly, “Uncle, my dad is trying to find you.”

Han Si is very smart. She knew that Xi Chengyun wouldn’t care if Father Jiang were to be humiliated right now, and only Father Jiang was unaware of that.

‘What if they ruin my engagement by getting into a fight?’

Han Si thought as she held Father Jiang back.

On the other hand, Bai Qi smiled and replied,  “Mn, we shall see.”

“Does our sister-in-law have a lot of exams next year?” someone else asked.

Bai Qi blinked confusedly and said, “Yes, I suppose.”

The person pulled a sad face and said, “Then, next time… can you ask Xi-ge to leave his phone on when he’s with you?”

Bai Qi turned to look at Xi Chengyun in shock.

‘He’d switched off his phone when he was with me???’

“It’s not easy to contact Xi-ge. I don’t mind, as long as Xi-ge can spare me a moment, getting even a few sentences through is fine,” the other person’s face looked even more upset than before.

‘Who knows, we might have separated by next year,’ Bai Qi thought.

However, it was hard to say… they didn’t specify a date on the contract. The contract only stated that person A will abolish the contract with person B once their aim has been achieved.

The people who were beside him smiled at him and tapped him on the shoulder. “You truly have your ways, President Li. You are trying to get on the good side of our sister-in-law so that he’ll put in a good word for you…”

Bai Qi shook his head and smiled. “It’s pointless, Xi-laoshi wouldn’t be moved.

Xi Chengyun, who had been silent all along, suddenly said, “You can try.”

‘Hm?’

Bai Qi , who was reaching for the tea cup on the table, paused.

Just then, the emcee walked on stage and talked into the microphone. This instantly drew everyone’s attention over to the stage.

The people who were talking naturally quiet down.

The emcee hosted the engagement ceremony smoothly till the end.

“Kachak, kachak.” Jiang Fangcheng and Han Si stood on stage together and the photographers snapped photos of them, and the atmosphere was peaceful.

Father Jiang received the mic, smiled, and said, “Thank you everyone for coming to my younger son’s engagement banquet… Today is also a special day because my older son managed to take time out from his busy schedule to attend this ceremony. Oh, I believe not many people know, Chengyun actually followed the surname of his mother, and my younger son followed mine.”

Many who knew this beforehand weren’t surprised, but there were still some who didn’t know and gasped quietly.

Father Jiang reached out and said, “Come, let’s stand together as a family.”

Bai Qi found Father Jiang to be very brave. He referred to them as “a family”, and this certainly would’ve triggered Xi Chengyun to the core.

Bai Qi took a look at Xi Chengyun, but realized that his expression hadn't changed.

After a few seconds, Xi Chengyun suddenly moved. He dominantly intertwined his fingers with Bai Qi’s and pulled Bai Qi up from his seat along with him.

“Should we go?” Bai Qi whispered.

“Mn, let’s go. Look, there’s someone who wants to join but can’t,” Xi Chengyun said softly.

Bai Qi glanced to the other side and saw the middle aged woman that he’d met in the Jiang family house, who is also Jiang Fangcheng’s biological mother.

She was standing off stage and didn’t even have a seat allocated to her.

She stared at the stage and bit her lips, with tears threatening to fall from her eyes.

As long as Father Jiang still had plans to win Xi Chengyun over, she’d never have a spot in the family under the public eye.

Bai Qi shifted his gaze and followed Xi Chengyun onto the stage.

Father Jiang looked over and almost lost control of his emotions due to anger.

Father Jiang's piercing gaze was fixed on at Bai Qi.

‘How dare he?’

Bai Qi pretended to not feel the rage coming directed at him.

Sigh.

Jiang Fangcheng’s biological mother was also likely to be furious. How could he, a man, stand on stage as part of the family, but not her.
