A Contractual Marriage with the Best Leading Actor Chapter 123

A Damsel in Distress (1)

Su Meixian rolled her eyes at Papa Bai. She turned around just in time to see Xi Chengyun walk out of the bedroom.

“Mr. Xi, there’s warm water on the table. Have Qi Qi pour a cup for you,” Su Meixian said, finally looking like the owner of the house.

Xi Chengyun didn’t feel distant from them due to their courteousness, and instead, he felt nervous.

Bai Qi’s parents’ attitude towards him was very welcoming.

Xi Chengyun looked up and politely addressed them. “Good morning uncle and aunty. Let me pour some water for both of you.”

After that, he rinsed the cups before using them.

Papa Bai was utterly shocked and he couldn’t help but ask, “How does he know where our cups are kept?”

“I guess Qi Qi told him.” Su Meixian thought to herself that he was overreacting. Xi Chengyun had made himself at home during the first time he’d visited, anyway.

“He’d rather help outsiders rather than his own family,” Papa Bai muttered to himself.

Su Meixian found the situation funny. “Didn’t you support their relationship before this? You even praised your son for being a loving partner.”

“You can’t take my word for it. At that point, I thought that…” Papa Bai gritted through his teeth.

Su Meixian raised a brow. “Thought what?”

Papa Bai looked at the man in the kitchen. “He’s tall and huge… He’s no daughter-in-law! I don’t want such a huge daughter-in-law!”

Su Meixian laughed as she reprimanded him. “You’re out of your mind. Do you think you have a say in this?”

Just then, Xi Chengyun walked towards them with the clean cups whereas Bai Qi walked out from the bathroom.

Papa Bai immediately shut up when he saw them.

Xi Chengyun poured them water and proceeded to the toilet to freshen himself up.

Bai Qi accepted the cup of water from him and sat down on the sofa. “Dad, do you have any plans today? Are we going shopping for New Year’s goods?”

Su Meixian replied, “Of course, none of us were free previously, so we didn’t prepare anything for the New Year’s. But there’s no rush… you and Mr. Xi should have breakfast first.”

“Mn.”

“I can ask my assistant to do the groceries for you,” Xi Chengyun offered.

Papa Bai wasn’t sure where he was coming from as he replied, “Huh, we shouldn’t trouble them. We should get the New Year’s Goods ourselves. The grocery shop is still open, so let’s go together in a bit. Little Xi, you should come along too. You can help carry the bags and such…”

Bai Qi, who was opening the fridge, froze.

‘Dad, when you put things that way… it completely blurs the border we’ve previously set up between us.’

His dad complicated the relationship between him and Mr. Xi. It was no longer as clear as before…

Bai Qi took out two eggs from the fridge. “Dad, how can you ask others to help carry things for you?” Bai Qi questioned in an unhappy tone.

Papa Bai replied, “Why shouldn’t I? Little Xi, what do you say?”

“Sure, no problem,” Xi Chengyun replied.

Bai Qi suddenly recalled a matter as he turned around and said, “No can do. If my memory serves me right, Xi-ge’s hands are insured, right?”

Papa Bai felt nervous after hearing that. “Oh, then forget it. Let’s keep Little Xi’s hands safe. There’s no need for you to move them around.”

Xi Chengyun looked down and brought the tips of his fingers together.

He didn’t insist on carrying the groceries. Instead, he offered to drive them there.

“Sure,” Papa Bai agreed.

More than half of the dumplings had been wrapped by the time Bai Qi and Xi Chengyun finished their breakfast. Su Meixian grabbed her coat and handbag, whereas Papa Bai threw on a down jacket. “Let’s go…”

“Little Xi, where did you park your car?” Papa Bai asked as he walked down the stairs with Xi Chengyun.

The staircase was old and narrow. Since the two men were walking side-by-side, they almost took up all the space there was.

Plus, Papa Bai was quite tall himself.

If not, he wouldn’t have been able to have a child who was 178cm tall.

Papa Bai was silent while he walked with Xi Chengyun. Then, he took two steps back and said, “Qi Qi, go ahead and fetch the car with Little Xi. Your mother and I will follow behind you both.”

“Mn,” Bai Qi replied. He hurried up and caught up to Xi Chengyun.

When they reached the ground floor, Bai Qi said in a small voice, “You’ve worked hard.”

Xi Chengyun didn’t respond to him. He pushed open the door and walked out. Then, he immediately turned around and buttoned up the cap of Bai Qi’s down jacket.

Bai Qi froze.

“It’s cold outside,” Xi Chengyun explained.

And he was right, it was cold.

Just as Xi Chengyun said that, a gust of strong wind blew in their direction. Without a second thought, Bai Qi grabbed Xi Chengyun by his coat and used him as shelter.

The man was tall, and he managed to shelter him entirely.

Xi Chengyun froze for a second before smiling.

Bai Qi also froze.

He squeezed Xi Chengyun’s sleeve before realizing what he had done.

The atmosphere between them became stiff.

Papa Bai was soon with them and he was confused at their current predicament. “What are the both of you doing?”

Su Meixian sounded concerned as she asked, “Are you worried that you’ll bump into Mr. Xi’s fans?”

“No…” Bai Qi said and continued in a smaller voice, “I’m having Xi-ge block the winds for me.”

Su Meixian was speechless.

On the other hand, Papa Bai broke into a huge smile when he heard Bai Qi’s reply. He laughingly told his son off, “See, why didn’t you put on more clothes before leaving? Why do you have to rely on others?”

Bai Qi felt his ears burn in embarrassment.

He half-heartedly replied, “I want to.” Then, he tugged Xi Chengyun by his sleeve and bolted to the car.

There weren’t any underground parking lots near Bai Qi’s house, so the car was parked at a paid open-air car park.
