A Contractual Marriage with the Best Leading Actor Chapter 153

A Serious Story (2) - unedited

“Despite the killing of the female lead’s entire family, you were able to escape since you resided at the temple. After that, you’d be taken capti… good care of by Xi-ge.”

‘I think you were about to say ‘captive’.’

‘Argh, forget it, let’s not take up this role after all!’

Bai Qi licked his lips and said in a small voice, “I think it’ll be a bit difficult…”

“There is a certain difficulty to it. However, as per Xi-laoshi’s wishes, he’d like to act in a movie with you for remembrance.” Director Zheng furrowed his eyebrows, finding it difficult to explain.

‘For remembrance?’

‘I guess that doesn’t sound too bad…?’

Bai Qi pictured the day where their contract would end. He’d never imagined that day prior to this moment.

Bai Qi paused for a few seconds. “Then, I’ll try harder. Are you sure I won’t be making too many appearances?”

“Yup, the acting will mainly be on Xi-laoshi’s part,” Director Zheng nodded and explained.

“...”

‘Why does this sound a little odd?’

Just then, a waiter knocked on the door to ask if they’d like to have their food served now.

Thus, the discussion about the movie came to a halt, and everyone focused on their food.

Many speculative accounts described Director Zheng as someone with an unpredictable temperament. However, he was actually the opposite.

When Bai Qi was choosing from the menu, Zheng even gave some commentary. “Oh, Spicy rabbit meat? I’m a fan of it too.” “Braised tofu with assorted vegetables? That’s a good choice.”

He was clumsily trying to find common ground between themselves in order to fit in.

They ended the meal on a high note.

“Come on, let’s head over to the filming site,” Director Zheng said as he led the way.

“Have you all already started filming?” Bai Qi asked.

“Of course. To adjust to Xi-laoshi’s schedule, we had to delay the recording of his parts. Now, since you all are here, we can finally start filming that portion.”

The filming took place at the outskirts of Jing City.

Director Zheng had purchased a complex of buildings two years ago and he built them into a city designed for filming. It wasn’t too far by car.

Director Zheng became their driver. He couldn’t help but mutter while he was driving, “In the beginning, I asked Xi-ge to head to the city with you straight away, but he said that there isn’t much good food to eat around that area… But, I think the noodles made by our crew are quite good!”

Without a change in expression, Xi Chengyun slowly and gracefully said, “I bet he’d even say that poop tastes nice.”

Director Zheng was speechless. “F*cker, f*ck your dad.”

Instantly, Bai Qi was reminded of Father Jiang.

‘Well, I’m pretty sure Xi-laoshi wouldn’t mind.’

Director Zheng felt bored after driving for some distance. “Friends, do you all sing? Would you all like to be my accompaniment to lighten up the mood?”

Xi Chengyun took out his phone and played a song called “Tao Ma Gan”*.

*Tao Ma Gan (套马杆) is a traditional song by Wulan Tuoya from 2009 which depicts the life of living in the great outdoors and plains in Central Asia.

After some time, Director Zheng finally gave up.

Bai Qi wanted to laugh, but he knew that it would be impolite to do so, so he held back his laughter to a point where it hurt.

A joyous atmosphere filled the car throughout their journey to the studio city.

Director Zheng’s assistants came out to escort them into the city.

It was a sight to behold. Towering buildings stood before them, and the green mountains covered by fog in the distance made a nice backdrop.

There were extras dressed in traditional clothing walking up and down the street. They worked hard to fit into the current setting under the order of one of the directors.

There was a waiting area that was fenced off with umbrellas and chairs just a few steps ahead.

At one glance, Bai Qi saw a few veteran actors and actresses seated in that waiting area.

Just then, he heard one of the staff saying, “Xi-laoshi is here.”

All of them promptly rose to their feet and greeted him enthusiastically. Subsequently, they turned their curious gazes towards Bai Qi.

“Xi-laoshi, did you bring a family member to visit?” someone asked, curious.

Director Zheng answered before any of them could. “No.”

He called for one of his assistants. “Please bring Li Yu’s clothes over, and escort Mr. Bai to the makeup area after that.”

Everyone looked at each other in confusion, none of them knew what was going on.

Meanwhile, the news of Bai Qi arriving at the filming location spread across the internet.

【Doesn’t everyone already know that Bai Qi will be making a cameo appearance with Xi-laoshi in Director Zheng’s newest project?】

【?? Huh, Director Zheng is directing a new movie? I didn’t know that, my gosh!】

【He recently rejected Bu Xiao’s offer to appear in his MV, and now he’s making a cameo appearance in Director Zheng’s movie? Emmm…】

【What are you ‘emmm’-ing about? The former is his fan, and the latter is his husband. It’s a no brainer that he’d accept the invitation of his husband instead hehe】

【Hey, isn’t this a display of Xi-laoshi’s possessiveness over Bai Qi? — Look, my wife only listens to me】

【Stop it. The more I look at their news, the more I want to kidnap Bai Qi for myself. QAQ. How can there be such an obedient person who listens to everything Xi-ge says?】

【Xi-ge, good game well played. This is Director Zheng we are talking about, the great Director Zheng! I’ll create a shared memory with my wife in a movie directed by a well-respected director! The entire world will be witnesses to our love! Who are you, Bu Xiao, to invite my wife to appear in your tiny little MV? Ngaw, Xi-ge is so manly…】

Zheng’s assistant hurried to grab the attire. She came back with a long-sleeved Hanfu with many layers. There were huge and luxurious peonies embroidered with golden thread on the Hanfu.

It was a sophisticated and graceful attire.

Bai Qi could picture a young woman putting this on on her wedding day, so he was a little confused as to why the assistant was passing it to him.

“Is this for me?” he asked.

“Mn, this is a gift from your husband in the movie,” Director Zheng explained.

“Oh, that’s… quite odd,” Bai Qi replied.

“Absolutely. Your husband in the movie is an absolute psycho.” Just then, he met Xi Chengyun’s gaze and quickly changed his description. “An absolute freak.”

His assistant wiped a cold sweat and thought, ‘Director, I don’t think that makes a difference.’
