My mouth was gaped open as a giant creature with scales that shined like beautiful rubies, smoke expelled from its nostrils, it looked at us curiously with its emerald green eyes. I couldn't place it but those eyes looked strangely familiar.

"D..do I know you?"

"No I suppose not anymore, it's been years since you were taken." Its eyes softened.

"Excuse me? Taken? From whom?"

"Oh Elanore, you don't remember?" The dragon appeared offended by my statement, I swear if it was human it might even be crying.

"I'm sorry but I've been a servant of the castle for as long as I can remember."

"A servant?! To this Insignificant child?!"

"Excuse me?!" Flora was outraged

"Flora! Quiet! Don't forget this thing can eat you!"

Somehow the prospect of losing her life shut her mouth right up.

"Child, there's so much to talk to you about. But first I need your help."

"Me? What could I possibly do to help a being such as yourself??"

"The ruling King Harold has broken our treaty and stolen something very valuable to us."

"...What has he stolen?"

"A very rare Golden egg, One of it's kind is only laid once every 100,000 years. For some reason it is coveted by humans."

"A golden egg??"

"Yes and it is due to hatch soon, out of the golden egg hatches the new Dragon Lord. If that dragon fell into the clutches of humans theres no saying what will happen."

"So you're saying the king could take control of the hatchling and potentially what? Rule the world?"

"Exactly that. It would be the end of peaceful times forever."

I thought very carefully before answering the dragon,

"If I get this egg can you guarantee my safety from the king?"

"Yes, he would never be able to hurt you again."

"Then I'll do it."

"Excellent!" The dragon gave a large toothy smile that was more ferocious than comforting.

"Bring it back here when you get it."

I turned to Flora.

"Looks like it's time to get you home."
