A Dragons Favor

Micah started pulling at my arm,

"Ellie we need to go. Now!"

"We can't leave her here like this!!" Tears were falling down my face. The dragons eyes closed gently and he gave one last breath as Micah pulled me from the back of the cavern. We hurriedly made our way through the darkness.

"Going so soon?"

I knew that voice, that was the voice that had commanded me for years the voice that threatened my life.

"Your highness?!" The king stood before me, dropping his bow and his now empty quiver to the floor he drew his sword on me.

" I'm going to enjoy running you through Ellie. You've been nothing but a thorn in my side since your parents died." He sneered at me. Micah drew a sword to defend me when suddenly he froze.

"Drop it, pretty boy." A clatter ran out as he dropped his sword, the princess circled around with a thin sword pointed at his neck. Backing up to her father she gave us an evil grin.

"What? I don't understand... You left... You escaped!"

"Ugh, Ellie you are so stupid! I didn't leave! Why would I leave the most powerful kingdom in the land? For what? A commoners life??"

"But you told me you were being treated like property, he was practically selling you!" My eyebrows knit in confusion.

"I told you what you needed to hear. I needed that stupid dragon dead so she wouldn't interfere with our plans for domination. I didn't leave to avoid marriage, I left to find out where she lives."

I was filled with rage, she was a demon disguised as a beautiful girl. With one fast motion I removed my sword from its sheath and knocked her sword against the wall, as I lunged Micah leaped for his weapon. The cavern filled with the clanging sounds of sword against sword. They would pay for what they've done. For my parents. For the dragon. For everything.

"Hold on Ellie!" Micah yelled down to me as he gripped my wrists trying to pull me up.

"Father!!" Flora shrieked beside me.

"Grab the egg first, then I'll pull you up!"

Flora reached into my satchel with one hand while her father held her into place. She steadily passed the egg to him and he grabbed it with both hands.

"Yes! It's mine once again!"

"Now father! Pull me up so we can dispose of them!"

"I'm truly sorry my dear, but there can only be one supreme leader."

"What??" She screamed as he stomped on her hands causing her to fall to her death down the cliff. An evil laughter escaped the king's lips filling the cavern.

"He's gone mad!" I whispered to Micah as he pulled me up. Micah lunged with a dagger to the king stabbing him in the abdomen. The king and the egg fell to the floor his body protecting the egg from the stone.

"Is he-" I started but stopped when I found myself in Micahs tight embrace.

"I thought I was going to lose you" He choked out.

We fell to the floor still embracing each other.
