A Dragons Favor

Chapter 4:a morning surprise

My shoes clicked as I made my way down the empty corridor. Its morning and the princess was due at the competition in mere hours. The smell of freshly made hot cakes made it's way from her breakfast tray to my nose. My stomach rumbled at the smell of her food, I had accidentally slept in so I skipped breakfast.

"I wish I had someone to bring me food in bed." I scoffed to myself, a small twinge of jealousy pricked at my heart.

I paused to compose myself at Floras door.

knock knock

"Princess?"

Something seemed off as I entered her room, it felt cold. Panic set in my chest as I realized her bed was empty and still made from yesterday. Setting the tray down I searched everywhere in her room for any sign of her. Everywhere turned up empty. My breathing came in rapidly as I realized Princess Flora was missing. I started to run to the throne room praying I would find her along the way. What had happened to her? Was she kidnapped? Ran away? Whichever it was the king needed to know right away. I burst into the throne room without announcing myself, panting as I tried to catch my breath.

"What do you think you're doing??" The king boomed at me. I shrank back before building up my confidence.
