A Dragons Favor

That morning I woke up completely refreshed, something about not having the screams of tortured men echo through your head does a body good. I pulled out a few apples and the remaining bread from the parcel, this would make a decent breakfast. As I munched on apple slices I looked out across the stream, the morning fog sat softly on the meadow across the water it was simply mesmerizing. Dusting off my trousers I packed up camp, I would have to remember this spot for my journey back. Silvermane groaned stubbornly as I set the saddle upon her back.

"Sorry but we need to keep going, I rather like my head attached to my body" I joked with her. I jingled the few silver coins I had in my drawstring pouch tied to my waist. If I came across a town maybe I could buy some real fishing equipment, I doubt my makeshift net would last long. Climbing into the saddle I gave one last stretch before urging silvermane on, we must continue if we're to find Flora in time. As the fog lifted the sun warmed my back, it felt surprisingly good like a thick blanket being wrapped around my shoulders. I couldn't remember the last time i felt so at peace.

As we made our way down the dirt path we came to a fork in the road with a sign.

"Hmm..left is dead man's cliff and right is the town of Vanderbilt..she wouldn't be stupid enough to go to dead man's cliff." I chuckled. Right it is, well if theres a town theres gotta be a supply store of some sort. When we arrived to town it was full of life. Children ran through the streets laughing, women gossiped at the entrances to businesses, and men bartered with the salesmen. Silvermane approached a small store, I jumped from her back and tied her to the post at the water trough. Walking into the store the clerk was busy with a male customer, I hadn't expected to be acknowledged so I searched for what I would need. As I was browsing the shelves I couldn't help but overhear the conversation between the two men.

"....Dumb woman. Hahaha she'll be dead by morning!"

"Haha, Clark how did you convince her?"

"It was all too easy, she was so full of herself I couldn't help it! That'll teach her to open her stupid mouth!"

That had to be Flora they were discussing...I stomped over to them and slammed my hand on the counter.

"What th-"

"What did she look like?!" I growled at him.

"Who??"

"The woman, you blubbering idiot! What did she look like??"

"I don't know? Blonde hair, skinny little thing...acted like she was God herself. "

I sighed

"Where did you send her?" this man was giving me a headache.

"What's it to you?!"

"That woman, sir, happens to be the missing princess! If anything happens to her you can bet the king will be out for a vengeance! Now I'll ask again...where did you send her??" I glared at the idiot, turning red in the face.

"She needed to be taught a lesson, I didn't know she was the princess. I told her the fastest way to twin peaks is by going to dead man's cliff."

"You better pray that nothing befalls the princess lest you want your head on a spike!" I spat at him before leaving the shop, thoughts of fishing equipment have long vanished.

"Flora please be ok!" I begged to nobody in particular.
