A Failure's hopeful Journey

You Xi Wang was assigned to a squad responsible for the western side. Some of his friends did were in the same squad as him, but the rest were scattered among the other squads based on their skills and capabilities. The allotment was done by a computerized system. This way the most optimum squads were prepared. 

Yesterday he went out with the Deputy Commander, today he was assigned to a squad led by an old major. The person was said to be easygoing and the most experienced officer. He has been commissioned here for almost two decades now. Never once did he go back to Metropia. You Xi Wang walked over to the office of the old major wearing his battle suit with an insignia sticking to his lower chest. 

He knocked on the door, a voice came out, "Come in."

The boy walked in, turned to his left using his heels, and saluted the man as he said, "Captain You Xi Wang, reporting, sir."

The old man raised his head to glance at the youngster in front of him and said, "Welcome to Iron Squad."

You Xi Wang expressed his thanks. The old man spoke with a thoughtful expression, "So what do you want to do?"

You Xi Wang confused, he asked, "I do not understand, sir."

The old man said, "Would you like to be a captain on the front lines? Or stay here at the base to oversee the helping staff?"

The boy replied, "Frontlines, sir."

The old man said, "I will allow five people to follow you. Your task is to ensure their safety and they venture out. If you fail, then you guard the barracks. Okay?"

You Xi Wang replied, "Sir, yes, Sir."

The old man nodded as he spoke, "Good, come with me. It is actually time to send out the first teams today."

A team has 5 people, a squad has 45 people. A major overlooks 4 captains. While a commander overlooks 4 majors and 2 deputy majors. Every squad has 40 front-line soldiers and 5 on-base soldiers. The difference between the two is just as the name suggests. Though, everything is up for a change. People need rest, so the on-base team will be substituted regularly. 

You Xi Wang followed the old man to the Squad hall, a place where the people of a squad will gather every morning before deployment. People were surprised to see a teenager, looking like a sunny boy following the old major. The other 3 captains saluted the Major. The old man nodded and said, "This is You Xi Wang, a captain assigned to our team. Cutting to the chase, I will assign five members to You Xi Wang. The other five will take a rest today. After his performance, I will allow him to lead the other half of the team. Question?"

The captains shook their heads. They had no objection. The major nodded and selected five members from a vacant team. He asked, "Any objections?"

One soldier spoke, "Report."

The old man nodded, signaling him to speak. The soldier looked to be at the peak of his youth. he spoke with an unabashed disdainful expression on his face, "Do we have to follow a kid now, sir? How did he even get the qualification of a captain?"

The old man did not reply, he glanced at You Xi Wang and said, "You can answer him yourself."

You Xi Wang nodded, and the next moment he appeared in front of the soldier. Before the soldier could react, he felt cold against his neck. He was scared pale. A fiery red dagger rested against his neck. He looked at the sunny teenager in front of him. You Xi Wang said, "Do you now know how I got my qualification to be a captain? I eat five like you for breakfast and I don't spit out bones."

Then he glanced at the rest of the team and asked with a scorn on his face, "Anyone else, who would like to question my authority?"

The people shook their heads. The other three captains nodded along with the old major. This kid was not only a face. He was a sharp sword touch his edge and it will cut. You Xi Wang turned towards the old major and said, "Sir, can I take the first slot? I want to see what my team is made of."

The old major scratched his chin and said, "You can go to zone C. It is a Beta spot but recently there have been no patrols and clearance visits there. You will leave in 10 minutes. All the best."

You Xi Wang saluted the man and turned to his team. His aura changed, if he was a good boy in front of his superiors then he was a devil to his juniors. He said, "You heard the Major. Get your ass moving and load up. You have five minutes."

One guy said, "But the major said ten minutes."

You Xi Wang smiled coldly, "10 minutes to leave. To get ready, you get five minutes. Now it is 4 minutes." his cold voice sent chills down their spines. They immediately rushed to get loaded. One captain came forward and said, "Hello, My name is Ayaka, nice to have you here."

You Xi Wang returned to his sunny expression and shook hands with the man. He replied, "Hello, I am You Xi Wang, I will be in your care in the future." The other two captains also introduced themselves. 

One of them was called David, the other was called Kevin. They were all almost the same age, 30-35 years old. You Xi Wang chatted with them in his calm temperament. When suddenly David asked, "Captain Xi Wang, don't you need to suit up?"

You Xi Wang shook his head and his spirit energy ran through his battle suit. Immediately the space arrays engraved on the suit opened and the weapons came out. The scene was very much like a movie. Some weapons circling the boy. Then after ten seconds You Xi Wang took them all back inside his suit.

The other three were shocked. Kevin asked, "How do you do that? I don't remember any of the army battle suits have space arrays engraved on them."

You Xi Wang replied, "I am an array master, so I customized my battle suit." he knew that this suit was easy to use and the captains all liked it so he took the initiative, "How about I make one for you all when I am on rotation?"

The other three were surprised and then nodded. This kid sure knew how to make it to the good books. Just when the four people were indulged in small talks. You Xi Wang sensed his old Holo-phone buzz. The four minutes were up. He saw his team was standing behind him, all suited. He nodded at them. 

The boy did not let anyone use the new holo phone and other equipment until they did not get the chance to venture out alone. Better equipment will make the others dissatisfied. So the old ones were still used. After bidding farewell to the three captains. The boy led his team to the vehicle bay. Should his badge to the wall-mounted scanner near the vehicle, completed the undertaking of the vehicle, and went out with his team. 

He got to know that the teammates were called, Shui-sniper and medic, Mark-brawler, Dixon-swordsman, Anton-rifleman, and Milo-spirit beastmaster. 

The profession of a beastmaster was a supportive one. They would use the tamed beasts to fight and support their team. The rest were the same. Mark drove the vehicle to zone C. They all came off the vehicle and You Xi Wang said, "Take a knee."

The five people kneeled on one knee. You Xi Wang said, "I am good at all the posts and I also have a spirit beast. Maya, come out." from his shadow a beautiful white silhouette emerged. She came near him and rubbed her head to his waist. Yeah, she has grown up and did not get to come out of the shadow for two days now. 

Milo spoke in surprise, "Snow Hound? but how could it live in the shadows?"

You Xi Wang shook his head and told them of Maya's origin. He said, "I will leave her to protect Shui. You guys operate according to the standard tactics of a five-man team. I will provide support and replacement for anyone tired. Is that okay?"

The people nodded. Mark and You Xi Wang stepped inside the barrier first. After they pushed back the beasts, the rest of the team came in. It was just like attracting attention to themselves so that the rest of the team could make swift and clear moves. Throughout the raid, You Xi Wang was providing support and relief to the tired members. He saved Mark from imminent death at least seven times. 

The three hours raid ended. The team came back from the barrier. You Xi Wang said, "It will take a week at this rate to clear the first five meters. This is too slow."

His words shocked the teammates. They did not know that the old major was also listening to all this from a distance. He smiled as he said to Rias beside him, "Deputy Commander, you gave me a clearance monster."

The two people laughed. You Xi Wang and his team have killed 400 beasts in three hours. This was an all-time high. If this kid is left alone, he will clear a whole spot in a month. That is what they need. Someone who is not afraid of challenges. You Xi Wang was a heaven-sent for them.
