A Father's Duty

We are in the Central Plaza and the spokesman introduced King Regis as he stepped up into the plate with his voice being transmitted to the listeners using similar to vibration magic.

The citizens kneeled down as a show of respect to their monarch. King Regis looked at the people who came to listen to his speech.

"Everyone might be wondering as to why I called everyone here. As you know, I've been ruling this Kingdom for more than a decade or two already." He said as he stopped and looked at his subjects.

"Today, is the day that I will step down from the throne to pass it to the next generation. For that, let me tell you all that my eldest son, the Crown Prince, Noctis Lucis Caelum, has come back from his journey." He said as the people erupted in joy and praise.

Everyone had known about the crown prince and his kindness. He had helped those who are in dire need and whenever calamity struck the Kingdom, he was the first one who come out to help. Though, in the last few years, it is said that the Crown Prince went on a journey outside the Kingdom.

After being called, I arranged my suit as I stood up in the platform as I looked at people of Lucis, this is my first time speaking in front of so many people so I felt a little nervous here and there. I took a deep breath as I forced myself to calm down and before I opened my mouth, a voice could be heard shouting from the front.

"WOOOOOO I'M THE ONE WHO SEWED THAT SUIT!" Alba shouted while clapping as I chuckled at her while the others are looking at her as if they don't know her. I raised my hand to silence them as my nerves calmed down due to Alba's shout.

"Thanks for that Alba. Although today is a joyful day because of my return, some of you might be wondering why my father, the King hasn't announced my coronation immediately. That is because I will step down from being the crown prince and ȧssign my brother, Somnus Lucis Caelum, as the new king." I said as the crowd were silent.

I motioned Somnus to come up with me as he stood up nervously, he always work in the dark so being in the light felt really weird for him.

"For those that don't know, this is my little brother, Somnus. Handsome right?" I said with a laugh.

Soon Somnus stood up with me on the stage.

"Again, some of you might be questioning why my little brother? Let me tell you, those fertilizers that you are all using? It was made by him. The Flintlock and Gunpowder that the soldiers and the local force are using were also made by brother, Somnus. He might not be a charismatic, brave, or heroic that inspires everyone, kind of leader, but I believe that he will usher Lucis Kingdom to new heights and make our ancestors proud. I say give him a chance and believe in him as well. If you do, I'll tell you. You wouldn't regret it." I said as I gave Somnus the stage as I patted him on the shoulders.

"I have said everything they need to know, Somnus. Now it is your time to ȧssure your future citizens of a future that only you could create. Don't disappoint me, Somnus." I said before stepping down from the plate and sat down beside Irene as I put Pitou in my ŀȧp. Kagura is in my mother's embrace while Erza is sitting on her mother's ŀȧp.

Somnus' speech is not very short nor very long. He told the citizens about what would happen in his reign. He also told the citizen a new product that he made that would make everyone's life easier.

That's right, I gave him the rights to claim that he is the inventor of the Kitchen Appliances. He vehemently declined at first but I told him that I will personally tell everyone about it. whatever his choice is, he would still end up being its inventor so he just gave up and followed my whims.

After his speech, the crowd chose to give him the chance to prove himself as they chanted his name as Somnus stepped down from the plate as he sighed in relief. King Regis gave a closing speech to formally close the gathering.

When we returned to the castle, Father laughed really hard seeing us two.

"What can I say, its been a long time since I've spoken in front of many people. Never again." I said while not admitting the fact that I'm bad at making a speech for the citizens.

"Its my first time doing something like that, I still got some room for improvements." Different from me, Somnus admitted his fault. He would have to do a lot of those speeches after being the king so he needs to polish his speech and raise his self-confidence.

"Don't mind your father, my son. If you had seen his face when he first spoke in front of many people." Hera said as King Regis got startled.

"Oh, don't you dare tell them, Hera!" He said as Hera had a mischievous smirk on her face.

"Your father wet himself after his speech." Hera said as King Regis got deflated as if he lost his soul while murmuring incomprehensible words.

Somnus had a smirk on his face as he tried his best not to laugh.

I laughed really hard while pointing a finger on my father while teasing him.

"Who would've thought that father is such a big baby, wetting yourself, you should've wore an oversized towel." I said while laughing really hard, Somnus couldn't hold it in anymore and laughed together with me and mocked him for wetting himself. In rage, King Regis stood up and tried to slash me with his sword which I efficiently dodged as he chased me around waving his sword at me. He then turned to Somnus and attacked him for laughing at him as he chased both of us in the palace.

"Ugh, men." Mother said in disgust as she pulled Kagura and Pitou with her hands while Irene followed her while holding Erza in her hand as they went inside to have a mother and daughter-in-law bonding.
