221. To Stir Up Trouble (I)

Translator: Dragon Rider

The Quadruple Orientation Mirror was a remarkable magic tool. People could see images in it, while the sound would be directly sent into their minds.

After seeing what was left of Jiang Shuanglin’s memories, they still had no idea why Feng Ma had locked Jiang Shuanglin up in his house, but the remaining information in Jiang Shuanglin’s residual soul proved that their previous speculation had been mostly true.

There were two parts that struck them as bewildering. The first one was why Feng Ma had locked Jiang Shuanglin up in his house; the second one was why that man had attacked Jiang Shuanglin.

These two questions occurred to He Zheng and Chen Qianlin at the same time, and they would make a concerted effort to find the answers.

“Spirit-binding Fu!” As Zu Zhichong summoned the Fu, Jiang Shuanglin’s soul flew out of the mirror, surrounded by a couple of Fu, suspended in mid-air.

Zu Zhichong said to He Zheng, “Incite an Ascension Enchantment to help him find the path to his next incarnation. This kid suffered so much in this life.”

He Zheng had excellent aptitude for exorcism. Incantation was about words and internal energy. Although nobody had ever taught him how to purify the souls of the dead, after he incited a small part of the Ascension Enchantment, it actually worked. Jiang Shuanglin’s soul gradually lightened, turned into golden light and then disappeared into the air.

Before they saw Jiang Shuanglin’s last memory, they had been curious, but after seeing it, He Zheng and Chen Qianlin felt it so inexplicable that Jiang Shuanglin had met his end just like that.

“Now we know how Jiang Shuanglin got killed.”

Zhao Fei kept silent. Chen Qianlin and He Zheng lifted their eyes to look at him.

Zu Zhichong said with a sigh, “This kid was weak in character and lacked a thirst for life. After Feng Ma imprisoned him for some reason, what with his cowardice, he didn’t dare resist and just stayed here waiting for death. This kind of despair is appetizing ‘food’ for Demon’s Attendants. After all, the state of a soul could be directly incorporated into their magic tools, which would help refine the tools.

In the final analysis, Jiang Shuanglin was too unlucky. He actually met a Demon’s Attendant, who then found out about the state he was in and devoured his soul.”

He Zheng and Chen Qianlin were rendered speechless.

No wonder people said that those who smiled more often tended to have more good luck. Maybe people who didn’t smile enough were really more liable to misfortune.

“But at least we’ve got a lead.” Zhao Fei closed his eyes, the image of the man that had just now been displayed in the Quadruple Orientation Mirror appearing in his mind.

It is very important for an actor to understand their role, because very often, a single line or movement determines how well an actor’s performance reflects their role’s personality. In order to improve his acting skills, Zhao Fei wrote short essays on his roles from time to time, drew pictures of them, and had also specially taken a course in psychology.

“Male, around 26, well-proportioned in figure, plain-looking, about five feet nine, probably not very expressive in daily life.” After a long silence, Zhao Fei added, “Mmm, presumably a southerner.”

The other three were thrown into perplexity by these words, wondering what he was talking about.

“Lao Zhao, what’s this nonsense of yours about?”

Zhao Fei almost fell speechless with embarrassment. “I don’t know why Li Zong allows an idiot like you to stay in his group.”

He Zheng had a flash of inspiration. “These are that Demon’s Attendant’s personal characteristics!”

“Li Zong’s marriage partner is far smarter than you.”

He Zheng gave a smile that didn’t extend to his eyes. “Don’t compare me with him.”

Zu Zhichong, “…”

‘That cuts deep!’ he thought.

“Let’s go talk to Sergeant Luo.”

As if on cue, Luo Zhou knocked at the door, his face etched with graveness. “I got the information I need. Feng Ma’s financial records are indeed suspicious.”

He paused briefly and then continued, “It was a month ago that Feng Ma purchased this house – he bought it outright.”

“The source of the money?”

“A month ago, someone made a seven-figure remittance to his bank account.”

Zhao Fei’s eyes roved at the words. “Things are getting more interesting.”

With a serious look on his face, Luo Zhou subconsciously reached inside his pocket for a cigarette, but the cigarette box he fished out was empty. He crumpled it up into a ball and tossed it into a garbage can. “Pity the money was from an offshore account the owner of which is untraceable.”

“It’s okay. We’ve got a lead already, with which we’ll be able to continue the investigation.” Zhao Fei blinked his eyes slyly. “Also, the talent agency that Feng Ma worked for is probably not as it seems.”

In Zhou family.

“Fuck. This stupid woman actually thinks I have a thing for her.” Zhou Yihao muttered a curse in spite of himself as he got out of the car. In order to find out the whereabouts of the Demonic Seed, he was still purposedly trying to cultivate good relations with the Qiao family – with He Yu, to be precise. Recently, because of Qiao Peiyu, He Yu had been particularly enthusiastic about winning his affections. Originally this hadn’t bothered him very much, but as he still hadn’t found any proofs after such a long time, and He Yu had actually begun to regard herself as his girlfriend, Zhou Yihao’s temper had started fraying.

The most annoying part was that Zhou Yihao couldn’t bail out of his relationship with He Yu unless he ascertained the location of the Demonic Seed.

On walking through the door, Zhou Yihao caught sight of Zhou Yize and Zhou Congzhi both of whom were sitting on the sofa in the living room.

Zhou Yihao’s heart gave a lurch and he had an inkling that something bad was going to happen.

“Why did you come back so early today, Father?”

Zhou Congzhi was wearing a pair of presbyopic glasses and holding a newspaper in his hand. On hearing his words, he shifted his sitting position and, legs crossed, said in a calm tone of voice, “If I hadn’t come back early to give you a kick up the backside, you probably would get so unruly as to forget what your surname is, wouldn’t you?”
