"Kisuke, you have two minutes to explain yourself," Ichigo said as he pointed both pistols at Kisuke who didn't look the least bit scared.

"Calm down, calm down," he said while waving his fan at Ichigo. "This was an exercise designed to help you better your teamwork," he said causing Ichigo and his friends to raise an eyebrow. "All of you were in the Soul Society fighting your own battles. This was a training exercise designed to help you all work better as a team and put more trust into each other," he said causing Ichigo to nod his head before he flipped Kurōdo soul candy to Noba and turned to Kisuke.

"Kisuke," Ichigo said in a sweet friendly voice. "Run," he said chillingly as his face turned cold.

**Bang** **Bang**

Chapter 17: Bounts!

After chasing Kisuke around town for about thirty minutes, the master and apprentice duo arrived back at the museum to find that everyone was still there waiting for the two of them. Orihime, Chad, Renji, and Uryru were all grouped together sitting on the stairs of the museum talking about their experience while being captured by the mod souls. Kon and the three mod souls Ririn, Noba, and Kurodo were gathered not too far away from Orihime's group talking about the powers each of them had. Kon found it interesting while at the same time he was jealous that his powers were not as cool as theirs. Ichigo and Kisuke arrived at the bottom of the stairs getting everyone's attention.

"You're back!" Orihime said in her usual cheerful voice as she stood up from the stairs and walked down to greet the duo with everyone else behind her. As they got closer, they all noticed Kisuke was covered in dirt and bruises and there were a few circular holes in his trusty striped hat.

"Are you okay, Urahara?" Renji asked as he stared at the store owner. Kisuke flipped open his fan with his right hand and covered his face with it before he spoke.

"I'm fine, I'm fine," he said in his usual childish manner while waving Renji off with his left hand. "My apprentice and I were just bonding," he added causing everyone to sweat drop at his reply. "That aside did you guys know Yoruichi was here conducting an investigation?" he asked as he flipped his fan closed. His question surprised everyone including Ichigo.

"An investigation?" Ichigo asked as he resealed his Shikai and placed his sunglasses back on.

"What is she investigating?" Uryru asked as he adjusted his glasses.

"I don't know the details, but an unexplained phenomenon has everyone concerned," Kisuke said in a somewhat serious voice.

"What sort of phenomenon?" Ichigo asked as he stared at his mentor.

"So far all I know is that it was serious enough to justify the Soul Society closing the path to the world of the living," Kisuke replied as he stared at his student.

"I know," Renji said as he walked forward. "I bet it has something to do with the Aizen incident, doesn't it?" he asked while looking at Kisuke.

"Doubt it," Kisuke replied surprising everyone. "Aizen got away with the hogyoku, but he will still need a lot more time before he could m.a.t.u.r.e it enough to utilize its full power," he added causing Ichigo to nod his head. "He probably would surface for a while, which is good because right now you are all probably too weak to counter hi...Well, most of you anyway," he added before taking a glance at Ichigo. "Anyway, let's all head back to the shop and discuss the results of our little training exercise," Kisuke said before turning to leave. "Tessai has prepared some delicious food as well, so come along now children," he added in his usual childish tone before he flash-stepped away.

"Well, I guess we should go," Ichigo said as he ran his hand through his hair before turning and walking away from the museum in the direction of the Urahara's shop with his friends following behind him. As the group is walking away Ririn called out to them stopping them.

"Where are you guys going?" Ririn asked confusing Ichigo and his friends. "This way is much faster," she said while pointing behind her. As she pointed, a swirling red portal opened behind her compliments of Noba. Ichigo looked at his friends and then he looked at the portal before he shrugged his shoulders and began walking towards it. Just before he entered the portal, however, he stopped and looked at the trio of mod souls and spoke in a chilling tone.

"You try any funny business and the three of you are done for," he said sending shivers down their spine as they recall what took place inside of the museum. The group of friends then walked through the portal with the mod souls following closely behind them.

**Urahara's Shop**

Outside of the Urahara's shop a swirling red portal opened and out walked Ichigo and his friends with followed by the four mod souls.

"Wow, that was fast," Orihime commented when she saw that they were standing in front of Kisuke's store.

"It is a very useful technique," Chad commented in his deep voice. The group then walked into Urahara's shop and headed straight to the back where they found Urahara and Tessai sitting around a round table sipping tea along with Jinta and Ururu. The group of teenagers and mod souls then walked in and sat down around the table as well.

"Would you all like some tea?" Tessai asked the group as they sat down to which they all nodded their heads. While he was pouring tea, the entire group was slightly startled by a shout coming from outside.

"Kisuke!" came the all too familiar voice of Yoruichi from outside the shop. The doors then slid open and in walked Yoruichi with a serious look on her face.

"What is it, Yoruichi?" Kisuke as he places his teacup down on the table.

"The intruder is as bount," she said seriously as she sat down with the group. Ichigo and his friends were all confused at this point. and they all had one question in their minds.

'What the hell is a bounty?' they all thought to themselves.

"A bount?" Kisuke asked while looking at Yoruichi. "Are you sure?" he asked to which Yoruichi nodded her head before she reached into her pocket and pulled out a test tube-like container with a swab with a green glowing sample of something surrounded by the pink liquid inside the tube.

"What the hell is a bount?" Ichigo asked while looking at his two teachers.

"A bount...it was quite a while ago when I was in the department of research and development," Kisuke began as he looked at the sample inside of the test tube. "I encountered a sample that looked a lot like this. It is a mysterious spirit particle or reishi that reacts strangely with the human soul," he said as he stared into the test tube at the glowing sample of spirit particle. "Upon further investigation, I traced it to a tribe called the bount," he added.

"A tribe?" Uryru asked as he too stared at the test tube in Urahara's hand.

"I use that term loosely because the bount are few in numbers, a lot like the Quincy, they are humans with special powers," Kisuke said surprising everyone while at the same time peaking Ichigo's interests. "Quincies have the ability to kill a hollow and destroy its soul which in turn lead to their downfall, but a bount has the ability to absorb a human soul, they do this for nourishment," he said surprising everyone once more. "Another difference is that quinces are born human and they die human. A bount, however, are born human but by absorbing human souls they have the ability to live forever," he added causing Ichigo's eyebrow to raise.

"So, they are immortal?" Ichigo asked.

"Yes, the human souls they absorb extends their life. That quality distinguishes them from every other living being," Kisuke replied. "Over the years they have come to be known by another name which I am sure you are all similar with," Kisuke said peaking all their interest. "Vampires," he said causing their eyes to widen slightly.

"Ordinary the bounts method of operation is to absorb the soul of someone who has already died before the konso has been executed," Yoruichi said as she folded her arms. "But is not what I saw," she said grimly. "the bount I saw was different, it was trying to absorb the soul of a living person," she said causing Ichigo to narrow his eyes behind his sunglasses.

"And what exactly happens to a person once they get their souls s.u.c.k.e.d out?" Ichigo asked.

"It is the same as when a life is taken," Kisuke said as he bent his head forward slightly causing his hat to cast a shadow over his eyes. "The only thing that is left behind is death," he said grimily slightly scaring Orihime. Kisuke then proceeded to explain to the group that each of them was going to be taking one of the mod souls with them due them these three mod souls having been modified to sense spirit particles. Ririn went with Ichigo, Noba went with Chad, and Kurodo went with Orihime. Of course, this meant that Uryru was all along because he did not have his powers anymore. Kisuke also thought it best that each of the mod souls should be placed in stuffed animals to avoid suspicion.

Ichigo went back into his body and grabbed Kon and Ririn's soul candy before he and his friends exited Urahara's shop and began making their way home. It took Ichigo about ten minutes to walk home from Kisuke's shop. His sisters were already in bed and his dad was working late tonight so the house was quiet. He headed upstairs to his room where he found a random stuffed animal and placed Ririn into it. As soon as she came awake, she let out a shriek.

"Ahhhh!" she yelled in panic as she saw the body that she was in. "What is this?" she asked.

"I think it is a bird...in a raincoat," Ichigo said with a shrug before he changed out of his school uniform and grabbed his towel to take a shower completely ignoring the mod soul's complaints about her body. After taking a shower he sat down at his desk and was getting ready to do a bit of light studying after all he may be a substitute soul reaper, but he was still a high school student. Just as he sat down and opened his physics book Ririn, who was laying on his bed after tiring herself out with all the complaining, suddenly sat up and looked at Ichigo before she spoke.

"They've come," she said getting Ichigo's attention.

"The bount?" he asked as he looked over at the little stuffed bird wearing a raincoat. Ririn nodded her head at him causing him to get up from his desk. Ichigo then walked over to the light switched and turned off the lights leaving only the moonlight coming through the window to illuminate the room confusing Ririn. He then grabbed his substitute soul reaper badge and laid himself down on his bed before he pressed the badge against his c.h.e.s.t causing his soul reaper form to eject from his body. Ichigo now stood on his bed with his zanpakuto strapped to his side looking down at his body. "Now if anyone comes in here to check on me late at night, they will think I am sleeping," he said causing the little stuffed bird to understand why he did all that. Ichigo then got off the bed and grabbed his sunglasses which were on his desk and placed them on before he turned to the mod soul and spoke. "Where?" he asked.

"It is far away right now," she replied before she began to focus a bit more.

"Come on, you'll lead me as we go," Ichigo said as he picked up the little stuffed bird and placed her on his shoulder before he flash-stepped out the window. After they left the house Ririn pointed Ichigo in the general direction of the bount she was sensing. As they got closer to the location, she was able to point Ichigo to the exact location where it was. It brought the two of them to an alleyway in downtown Karakura.

"There it is," Ririn whispered to Ichigo while pointing at two women at the back of the alley. One of the two women seems to be biting the neck of the other causing Ichigo to narrow his eyes at her. Ichigo then took off his sunglasses and placed them in his pocket before he flash-stepped and appeared inside the alley about twenty feet away from the bount.

"Just what do you think you are doing?" Ichigo asked in a cold tone as he stared at the woman with his blood-red eyes. Slightly startled, the bount looked up from her so-called meal to see who had the balls big enough to disrupt her while she was eating. As she looked up, she saw a soul reaper with a stuffed animal on his shoulder staring at her with a pair of crimson eyes. As she made eye contact with Ichigo she froze in fear. Those blood-red eyes scared her; it was as though they were staring right into her soul.

"Oh, the wonderful aroma of fear! So, appetizing!" Ichigo heard Alucard say from inside his inner world.

"A soul reaper?" the female bount asked in surprise as she held onto the woman who she was just feasting on. "What business does a soul reaper have with me?" she asked as he stared at Ichigo.

"You see we got a little problem here," Ichigo said as he took Ririn off his shoulder and motioned her to stand over in the corner. "I can't have you eating the souls of living people," he added.

"I'd prefer if you didn't interfere," the bount replied causing Ichigo to narrow his eyes.

"I could care less about what you prefer lady," Ichigo said in a chilling tone increasing the spiritual pressure in the surrounding area slightly. Ichigo then placed his hand on the hilt of his zanpakuto before charging forward towards the woman. As Ichigo was running towards her, the female bount shoved the woman she was previously feeding on towards Ichigo. Slightly caught off guard, Ichigo caught the unconscious woman in his arms. As he caught her the bout chose this time to make her escape. When Ichigo looked back up at the position where the bount was previously standing he saw that she had disappeared. "Where did she go?" he asked while still holding onto the unconscious woman.

"Over there!" Ririn shouted as she jumped back onto Ichigo's shoulder. "She is running that way!" she said while pointing to a connecting alley that leads into a residential area. Ichigo gently placed the unconscious woman against the alley wall before he took off behind the bount with Ririn on his shoulder. Ichigo chased the bount all the way to the abandoned warehouse district of Karakura Town where she finally stopped running after coming to a dead end.

"Now that you are done running," Ichigo said as he helped Ririn off his shoulder once more and motioned her over to the corner. "Why don't you tell me what it is exactly a bount like yourself is doing in town and what your goal is exactly," Ichigo said in a commanding tone placed his hands behind his back. Upon hearing Ichigo mentioning the bounts the woman took on a surprised look on her face not expecting him to know about her kind.

"My plan?" she asked in a slightly mocking tone. "I doubt even if I tell you what my plan is your feeble mind can comprehend it," she said in a condescending tone causing a cold chuckle to escape from Ichigo's lips.

"I was hoping you would say something like that," Ichigo said as he brought his out from behind his back and placed them on his zanpakuto. He then began unsheathing his zanpakuto while at the same time releasing some of the spiritual pressure. As the blade exited the sheathed a chill crept up the spine of the bount. She stared at the black blade which was had flecks of crimson red which resembled bloodstains scattered throughout it with a look of fear. The blade itself gave off an incredible amount of bloodl.u.s.t. Couple the bloodl.u.s.t from the blade and the increase in spiritual pressure from Ichigo and his blood-red eyes which seem to glow in the moonlight, it was enough to make the make a feeling of impending doom wash over the bount. Not wanting to go down without a fight she struck the bracelet on her right hand with the finger claw which was on her left middle finger creating a spark.

"Come forth, Goethe!" she called out as she formed an arch over her head from that spark. From the arch, three sparks of fire fell to the ground and from those three sparks a raging fire burst forth causing Ichigo to take a few steps back. From inside the raging fire, Ichigo could see a humanoid figure began to rise. The feature appeared to be made entirely of hardened magma and fire, it had no legs and was just floating in the air above the fire.

"What the actual f.u.c.k have I gotten myself into?" Ichigo asked in a bewildered tone as he stared at the strange fire golem which was just summoned. He was absolutely confused at this point. Kisuke and Yoruichi never mentioned that bounts having any sort of abilities like this, all he was aware of was the fact that they could absorb human souls and prolong their lives. "Just what the hell is that?" he asked.

"What? Do you mean my doll?" the woman asked in a somewhat mocking tone as she folded her arms and stood behind the creature.

"A doll?" Ichigo asked in a confused tone. He had never seen a doll like that before that was for sure.

"Yoshino, why have you summoned me?" the doll asked its master causing Ichigo's eyes to widen once more at the fact that thing could talk.

"It would appear as though these dolls are somewhat similar to a soul reaper's zanpakuto, master," Alucard commented from inside of Ichigo's inner world.

'It would appear so,' Ichigo replied in his head as he continues to stare at the doll.

"Take care of those two for me, they have been incredibly troublesome," the bount now named Yoshino commanded the doll causing Ichigo to narrow his eye. The doll did not say anything else it only held out his left and created a fireball the size of a basketball and reared his hand back getting ready to throw the ball of fire at Ichigo.

"You shouldn't underestimate me, lady," Ichigo said as he held his zanpakuto up in the air with one hand while back and red spirit energy gathers around the blade. "You might just lose your life," he added in a deadly tone. As he said that the doll threw the fireball towards him. In one swift motion, Ichigo slashed down through the air while simultaneously releasing the built-up spirit energy from his zanpakuto

"Blood-Fang!" Ichigo called out causing a blood red wave of spirit energy to race through the air slicing through the fireball that was heading for him before continuing its path towards the doll. The wave of spirit energy was so fast that the doll did not have a chance to dodge. The wave of spirit energy slammed into its c.h.e.s.t sending it rocketing back towards its master. Yoshino barely had enough time to jump out of the way to avoid being crushed between the giant wall that was behind her and her own doll. The strange doll slammed into the wall with such force that it not only broke through the wall and ended up inside one of the abandoned warehouses, but the doll also broke apart into a few pieces. Both of its arms had broken off along with part of its torso. The doll was currently buried amongst a pile of rubble from the broken wall.

"Well, that was disappointing," Ichigo said as he began walking towards the bount who was kneeling on the ground about six feet away from where she was previously standing. As Ichigo took two steps forward the sound of something rumbling filled the air causing him to stop and look over to the hole in the wall where the doll was. As he looked over, he saw the doll beginning to rise from the rubble and its previously broken parts beginning to reattach themselves to the body. "It can regenerate?" Ichigo asked as he stared at the doll's arms being reattached to its body by the fire.

"That's right," Yoshino said as she stood up with a smug look on her face. "It doesn't matter how many times you attack him, he will regenerate," she said c.o.c.kily causing an excited smirk to appear on Ichigo's face confusing the bount.

"This is great!" Ichigo said in an excited tone as he began to release more of his spiritual energy to a point where it formed a black and red outline around his body. "An opponent who doesn't die. I could keep killing him over and over and he will just keep coming back! Truly marvelous!" he said with an excited look on his face. As he finished speaking an incredible wave of bloodl.u.s.t exploded out from him sending shivers down the spines of Yoshino and Ririn. "This is going to be fun!" Ichigo said in a deadly tone before dashing forward with his blade drawn back. In a matter of seconds, he was already beside the doll standing to its right. He then swung his sword horizontally splitting the doll in two at the torso. Before the doll had a chance to regenerate Ichigo pointed an open palm at it and spoke.

"Hado #1: Sho!" Ichigo called out causing the doll to be hit with an invisible force sending blasting off through another wall. The force was strong that the doll broke apart from the force of the kido alone. Before Ichigo could chase after it, bits and pieces of the broken doll covered in fire rushed after Ichigo like a bunch of heat-seeking missiles. Not wanting to get hit by them Ichigo flashed-stepped swaying causing a few of the flaming projectiles to hit the ground where he was standing and exploded on impact while the rest followed Ichigo's movement and chased after him. Ichigo was now back out in the open and flaming bits and pieces of the doll began to fuse back together about twenty feet away from Ichigo. It took a matter of seconds before the doll had completely regenerated before Ichigo.

"Enough, Goethe!" Yoshino shouted from the corner. "Finish them!" she said as she was beginning to lose her patience with this strange soul reaper. There was not a doubt in her mind that if she allowed things to continue any longer this soul reaper might discover a way to kill Goethe or maybe kill her.

"Understood," the doll replied before raising both of its hands in the air above its head creating two extremely large fireballs in both hands about twice the size of the previous fireball. Ichigo was not worried in the slightest, however, he could not allow those two fireballs to explode here because it will cause too much damage to the surrounding area. Just as he was about to rush forward to take out the doll before it could attack a bunch of snakes leaped out from the shadows and wrapped themselves around the flaming golem, binding it in place. As it became bounded it began to lose control of the two fireballs that it was creating to a point where they simply disperse into nothing. The next thing that happened surprised Ichigo as well. The doll could not seem to maintain its own form either and it too began to break apart before it dispersed as well. As the doll disappeared, the snakes that were previously binding it in place transformed into metal pipes and fell to the ground. At this point, Ichigo was beyond confused at what was happening. Before he could contemplate what was going on the voice of a man drew his attention away.

"My, my Yoshino, how naughty," the man said as he stepped out of the shadow and began walking towards the female bount while at the same time giving Ichigo a look at him. He was wearing a suit and tie and had a snake wrapped around his neck. "Wondering around without my permission," the man said in a condescending tone to the woman as he continued to walk towards her.

"Ryo?" Yoshino said in a surprised voice. it was quite clear that she did not expect to see the man here tonight. At this point, Ririn ran out and hopped back onto Ichigo's shoulder before she spoke.

"He is a bounty as well," Ririn whispered into Ichigo's ear causing him to narrow his eyes. Yoruichi had said that the bount she encountered was a woman and Ichigo hypothesized that it was Yoshino, but now this man was also a bounty which clearly meant that there were more of them in Karakura Town than they had initially thought.

"Well, it looks like I have to kill one extra bout tonight," Ichigo said getting the man's attention.

"You know, where I come from food doesn't talk!" the man causing a wave of bloodl.u.s.t and spiritual energy to burst forth from Ichigo.

"That insignificant THING dares to call my master food!" Alucard yelled from inside of Ichigo's inner world.

"By all means, let's see just who is food," Ichigo retorted in a chilling tone to the bount while feeding off Alucard's rage. The man maintained a dignified look on his face as he turned his attention away from Ichigo and towards the Yoshino. As he looked away the snake which was around his neck uncoiled itself from his neck and rushed towards Yoshino and wrapped around her hands and feet.

"Now then, time to take you home," the man said to Yoshino.

"Aren't they on the same side?" Ichigo asked to which the snake that was wrapped around Yoshino's neck spoke.

"Noisy soul reaper!" the snake hissed out surprising Ichigo. At the corner of his eyes, Ichigo saw a metal pipe transform into a snake before it dashed out and attempted to strike him. Ichigo made no efforts to dodge, he simply stuck out his free and caught the snake by the neck and held it in place taking the male bount and his pet snake by surprise.

"Now that wasn't very nice," Ichigo said as he squeezed the sn.a.k.e.d in his hand causing it to transform back into a metal pipe.

"Hado #11: Tsuzuri Raiden!" Ichigo called out causing electricity to cover the metal pipe. He then threw the pipe like a spear towards the man forcing him to leap out of the way. As he jumped out of the in the direction of Yoshino and his pet snake, the electricity covered pile impacted the ground and blew it apart on impact.

"So even though bounts can live forever they can still be killed," Ichigo said as he observed the bount dodging. "If you were truly immortal then you would not have dodged that attack. This means that even though your life spans are increased by absorbing human souls, that is all it does. Good to know," Ichigo said with a smirk causing the man to grit his teeth. "So, there is nothing really special about your kind, you just live longer, that's it," he said with a condescending chuckle knowing very well that he was getting under the man's skin. Before the man or Ichigo could say anything, a voice rang out through the warehouse district, a voice that Ichigo never expected to hear again anytime soon.

"Ichigo!" came the voice of Rukia from behind Ichigo causing him to turn and look behind him ad with a surprised look on his face. When looked behind him he saw Orihime, Chad, and Rukia running towards him with Kon and the other two mod souls.

"Rukia?" Ichigo said in a confused tone. Thanks to Ichigo being temporarily distracted by the new arrivals, the two bounts took this as the perfect chance to escape, or rather the male bount took it as a chance to escape with the captured female bount and escape they did. When Ichigo looked at where they were standing all he saw was empty space causing him to sigh before he sheathed his zanpakuto as he noticed the fire which was raging a few seconds ago began to die down. As he sheathed his sword, he turned towards his three friends who were running towards him. "Orihime, Chad, what are the two of you doing here?" He asked as he looked at his two friends with a confused look.

"Noba and Kurobo sense a bount so we went after it and ran into that guy who was just here," Chad said surprising Ichigo.

"Are you two hurt?" Ichigo asked in a slightly worried tone.

"No, he left before a fight could happen, but..." Orihime said as she looked down to the ground with a sad look on her face. "...we didn't get there in time to stop him from absorbing the soul," she said causing Ichigo to understand.

"It's okay," he said as he patted her on the head. "We'll stop him next time plus I got here in time to save a woman from having her soul absorbed," he said trying to cheer up his childhood friend.

"It was on our way here where he ran into Rukia," Chad said chiming in.

"Yeah, what are you doing here, Rukia?" Ichigo asked as he looked over at his short friend. "I didn't think you would recover so fast," he added.

"I was given orders to report here and rid this town of hollows," she said surprising Ichigo. "It wasn't what I was excepting or wasn't what I wanted. I had hoped to return to training, but I was in no position to question the order," she explained causing Ichigo to nod his head.

"Let's all head to Urahara's shop and talk about all this," Ichigo suggested causing everyone to nod their heads in agreement before they all began making their way over to Kisuke's shop. On their way over there Rukia could not stop cuddling Kurodo who was inside of Orihime's stuffed rabbit/purse. It took them thirty minutes to walk all the way to Urahara's shop from the warehouse district.

**Urahara's Shop**

Everyone was currently sitting around the same round table once more tell Kisuke and Yoruichi about this encounter with the bounts.

"So, you are saying that there are more than one of these bounts in town?" Kisuke asked while looking at Ichigo, Orihime, and Chad t which they nodded their heads. "And they have some kind of ability to summon a doll which has powers in its own right?" he asked once again which resulted in another nod.

"Yeah, the woman named Yoshino who I fought with had a doll called Goethe, it was a strange fire creature that could regenerate itself after being attacked," Ichigo explained. "And that other guy that showed up at the end I believe the female bount called him Ryo, and he had a snake which I am pretty sure is his doll," he added causing Kisuke to contemplate everything.

"I think it would be safe to assume that there are more than just those two here in town right now," Kisuke said causing everyone to nod their heads in agreement. "What of the Soul Society, did they say anything about this when they sent you here?" he asked as he turned and looked at Rukia.

"No," she replied while shaking her head. "I believe they are aware of the situation, but they did not say anything to me about it," she said causing Kisuke to nod his head. "However, given the fact that I was also sent here I think they expect us to deal with it," she said causing Ichigo to raise an eyebrow.

"What do you mean?" Orihime asked as she looked at Rukia.

"Usually, it is one soul reaper to every 50,000 souls but including myself, there are three of us here. They would not have this many soul reapers in one location unless they wanted us to deal with the problem," he said causing everyone to understand.

"So, what is the plan going forward?" Ichigo asked as he looked over at Kisuke.
