Chapter 36 – Martial arts treasure hunter (2)

That day

I was wandering around the peddler’s plaza for wagon owners.

Not as a merchant.

But as a customer.

Maybe not exactly a customer, since I’m bargaining with no intention of buying.

In other words, market inspection.

What kind of things are being sold and what are they selling?

That’s what I have to find out.

The last few days.

The herb sellers made their rounds every day during the day, only during the morning and evening hours when there was a lot of traffic near the outer gate they made stalls.

There were merchants who dealt in meat, vegetables, fruits, and other food products there.

Pretending to be a customer, I asked him about his business under the guise of small talk.

He is from this area. He said that he goes to farmers in the area every morning to buy food, which he sells here.

He has been doing this business for five years. He seems to have built a very close relationship with the farmers and ranchers in the area.

Instead of buying them out when they had a good crop and prices were collapsing. When prices are rising due to a bad harvest, they let him buy their products at a lower price than others.

It’s like me dealing in medicinal herbs made by my wife Archana.

It is not a business that can be easily imitated and earned.

There are also stores that sell accessories. A store that sells armor for adventurers. A store that handles monster materials. A shop that sells tools such as ropes and stakes for treasure hunters. A store that handles jewelry. A store that handles books.

Some shops also offer a wide range of items, including clothing, jewelry, and even weapons, under the slogan, “Sourced from Poppo Village in the far north, made with traditional techniques from the northernmost village”.

They all seemed to have their own unique products and had secured ingenious purchasing routes.

I walked around the wagon peddling square for a while.

“It turns out that it’s difficult to do business if I rely on selling herbs.”

I felt the need to find new business opportunities.

It suddenly occurred to me.

(1) Submit a request to the guild for a material collection quest.

(2) Bring the materials to the processing shop.

(3) Sell the finished product.

Such is the business.

For none of it is done by myself.

Even a rough estimate was that it was not going to be a very profitable business.

It might be different if I could design a good design by myself. I don’t have that kind of skill.

At least, if I can gather monster materials by myself.

I would be able to see a different world.

Other.

I thought about the orthodox business of being a merchant, buying and selling goods from far away.

But the cost was too high for me, who could not travel without hiring an escort.

It’s quite a situation, all sides.

Leaving the wagon square.

I was walking down the street thinking about this.

With a thump, I bumped into someone.

“Oh? Where the hell do you think you’re going?

And then, unluckily.

The people I bumped into were very scary-looking guys.

→→→→→

Are you a merchant?”

You got a lot of mana, don’t you?

Tall, gangly men.

They were all over me from above.

“No, sir.”

“You lying piece of shit! I’ve seen you doing business near the outer gate before.”

“……”

Three scary-looking adventurers tangled with me and drove me to the edge of the wall at the end of the road.

Apparently. Apparently, these three men were well-known thugs in this area.

The passersby try not to get involved as much as possible.

They pass by with their eyes downcast.

Seriously.

No way.

“If you were a merchant. Of course you have a certain amount of mana, don’t you?”

“I just broke my arm bumped into you.”

“He’s going to get treatment from a white magician now, so give us 10,000 mana to pay for it!”

Give me a break.

I don’t see how treatment is going to cost that much, shit!

I can’t say that, though.

If I were a regular cheat hero, here…

“Fuck off!!” and then I would have unleashed a special move or something to turn the tables on them all.

Unfortunately, I can’t do that.

Because…I’m weak!

If I resist, I will only be met with a backlash.

That said. It is so ridiculous that I feel nauseous to be deprived of 10,000 mana for a mistake as it is.

Do these guys have any idea how hard I had to work to earn that much?

I was getting angry, but I couldn’t help it.

Because…I’m weak.

I can only find an opening and run away.

I couldn’t think of any way to get out of this situation.

Then.

I met eyes with one of the passersby.

A familiar face, a short girl.

She noticed me.

The girl approached me.

“Hey you, I know you. You that herbs seller. What are you doing in a place like this?”

The girl was Loloi, a self-proclaimed “martial arts treasure hunter”.
