Chapter 90 – Mitra’s Partner

Then one evening.

After dinner, when everyone was having their own time. I was in the garden of Clarice’s house, preparing kodris baked goods for the next day.

The key to customer satisfaction is how much you can prepare in advance for the time of day when there are many costumers.

It is by no means the kind of thing where one skewer will fill one’s stomach, so don’t make them wait too long.

“It’s a curious aroma.”

At that moment, a voice suddenly called out to me from behind.

“Mitra…”

“Yes.”

Mitra was standing behind me, covering her blind eyes with a cloth.

“Are you sure it’s okay to come out here? It’s dangerous, don’t go too close to the fire.”

Mitra basically rarely comes out of her room except for meal times.

It is said that she can move around in this mansion without any problem to some extent, but she probably does not like to move around so much in the first place.

“I was a little curious about it…”

“Do you want some? This is the herb-roasted kodris Clarice was talking about at dinner.”

“I see… Well, I want one of those.”

I took a simple chair and a desk that had been stored in the warehouse to the garden for Mitra, and urged her to sit down.

“Thank you.”

“I don’t want you staggering around eating it standing up because it’s so good.”

Right next to her, a fire is still burning to roast additional coddlis.

The heat would give some idea of the direction of the fire, but still, everything would be dangerous for the blind girl.

“I am accustomed to it, so please don’t be too overzealous in your concern.”

“Well… okay.”

Come to think of it, I haven’t had many proper conversations with Mitra.

I had been staying here for about two months, not including the time I spent hiding in the ruins, but this might have been the first time I had a chance to have a private conversation with her.

Mitra took a bite of herb-roasted cod roast.

“It tastes strange. I feel nostalgic somewhere.”

“?”

“No. I think there was a dish my mother used to make that tasted similar to this one. Perhaps I’m just imagining things.”

“Yes. I think you’re right. My wife mixed it for this occasion. Perhaps… there might be some original flavor.”

“Oh, I see you have a wife.”

“Yes, she’s too good for me.”

When I said this, Mitra looked down a little and fell silent.

It felt like a strange silence, so I continued talking anyway.

“I heard Mitra is getting married soon. I heard from Clarice. Congratulations…….”

“Yeah. Thank you.”

As it was, silence again.

I wonder if I said something bad…

Clarice had been worried about Mitra for some time.

She went on dangerous expeditions to explore the ruins in an effort to save mana.

“I hope this makes everyone happy.”

Clarice confided to Burgess that she was a woman and asked him to marry her.

Although that has been put on hold, they still seem to be on good terms.

I have a feeling that Burgess is getting more comfortable with the fact that Clarice is a girl, so perhaps it is just a matter of time.

“I’m not going to let Clarice stick her neck out any longer for me.”

I agree.

The way she said that made me feel a little stuck.

“Thank you for dinner.”

With that, Mitra turned to go back to her room.

As she got up from her chair, she seemed to stagger a bit…

I put my hand out to support her back.

“It’s dangerous. Shall I walk you back to your room?”

“You have a wife. And I am a woman who will soon be married..”

“No, that’s not what I mean…”

“Don’t worry, I can get back on my own.”

Saying this, Mitra walked a little and put her hand on the wall of the mansion. From there, she began to walk along the wall through the garden.

“I am sorry, Mr. Albus. I know you have no bad intentions…”

The apology would be for refusing to be a chaperone.

“I’m the one who should be sorry. I’m the one who should be sorry.”

“I will find my happiness. I want Clarice to hold on to her happiness.”

“Ah…”

“I must not be a fetter on her forever. I will be me… and I will find my own happiness with the nobleman, Mr. Jimmy Radiak.”

“Ah…”

“Yes?”

No…

I felt a slight stirring at the familiar name of this nobleman.

Jimmy Radiak.

A nobleman in the village of Yak who wanted to take Puddin as his wife in exchange for writing off his debt to Arcana.

The proposal was almost blackmail.

Because of that memory, I knew the guy was no good…

I didn’t actually meet him or know him or anything, so I can’t say anything bad about him.

To the present Mitra and Clarice.

It must be that Jimmy Radiak who is offering a helping hand.

“It’s nothing. Hope everyone finds their own happiness..”

“Thanks.”

I was lost for a while.

I decided not to say anything that would put a damper on Mitra and Clarice’s happiness.
