Chapter 1222 Section 144. New Free City School
With a population of 300,000, they support nearly 30,000 soldiers, a ratio of one in ten. Their lords are either war-mongers or war-mongers.
However, Annan has a sufficient excuse: 80% of his soldiers are ordinary people, but they can use magic muskets.
If other territories count the private soldiers and town militias raised by nobles, the number will not be much less than that of Free City.
And Annan can afford it. Not to mention 30,000 soldiers, even if everyone is a soldier, Annan can pay for it. If you can't afford it, you should reflect on whether you have worked hard to develop the territory.
"Sister, where is my speech?"
"It's still in your study."
Annan ran upstairs and found that someone had left the speech on the table in the lounge. He picked it up and rushed to the school without stopping to harvest the completion of the new school building.
In fact, there are still some classrooms left in the school, which will take a few days to complete, but it doesn't affect the teaching anyway, so Annan simply put them on the same day.
The new Free City designed by Ily Crumble carried too many ambitions, so it overspent a lot, and the area required was expanded again and again, even exceeding the floating range of three arcane energy cores.
This was the result of being forced to remove the dormitory.
In return, the school occupies more land than the industrial area, becoming the largest area in Free City, and its appearance can be called a work of art.
Ily Crumble designed each college with its own characteristics: six tall buildings standing in a fan shape, vaguely facing the city lord's mansion in the distance, as if guarding the heart of Free City.
The magic college on the far left is like an ancient castle. The towering towers reach straight into the sky. Standing at the school gate and looking up, you can just see the wizard tower rising from a corner of the college, like a part of it.
The adjacent Warrior College is built with dark gray granite, with a rough and solid appearance. In front of the college is a circular square imitating a gladiatorial arena, with long stone strips as stands on the edge.
The Ranger Academy fully demonstrates the aesthetics of the other half of Eli Crushed Stone's bloodline - like a huge green church, the architectural style is perfectly integrated with nature, as if it is a part of nature. The walls are covered with lush vines and mosses, and there is even a winding stream flowing in front of the academy.
The Political Academy is solemn and magnificent, with white marble as the main body. A row of tall colonnades stand on both sides of the front door, and in front of the door is a huge map sculpture of the Allen world.
The Military Academy is like an open book standing up, so it has a playground larger than all the academies combined.
The Life Academy is... like a three-dimensional commercial street, with shops with doors open in different directions, alchemy rooms, libraries, glass houses, a piece of farmland planted on the roof, tree houses growing out of the soil, and even a magic locomotive... It reminds Annan of the stacked mountains in Montreal.
The six academies together form the new Free City School, which is expected to accommodate 6,000 students at the same time.
It was hard to imagine that it only took three months in total - efficiency has always been the advantage of Liberty City.
Hundreds of teachers and students from the old school stood in the open space, watching Annan walk up to the temporary high platform.
Annan took out the speech, glanced at it, raised his head, swept through the student group, and locked onto Cathy standing in the front row.
"Slightly..."
She stuck out her tongue at Annan.
Annan retracted his gaze and read out the speech prepared the night before:
"The magic train called Liberty City carries all of us to the future (what a big car), you are students of Liberty City (I don't want to be a student), just like the morning sun (I don't want to get up), representing hope (I don't think so), you..."
Annan paused because the latter part was blocked by Cathy's ghost face graffiti.
Annan simply put down the speech and looked around at the students in the audience: "My wish is to build Liberty City and let everyone live and work in peace and contentment, and you will be the ones who realize my wish."
"Next, please let our vice principal Swarro give a speech."
Annan made room for Mr. Swarro who was standing aside.
Mr. Swarovski glanced at him, dragging his cloak, and walked to the podium like a big bat: "Your lord has wasted too much time. I declare the speech over. All students are requested to report to the new school building tomorrow morning." The students looked at each other in confusion, and then applauded at the same time.
"Kathy!"
After the disbandment, Annan grabbed Cathy who was about to run.
Cathy, who was grabbed by the collar, seemed to have her neck locked, with only her head exposed outside, looking at Annan pitifully: "It's none of Cathy's business, it's... Ivana taught me to do this!"
Ivana next to her sighed slightly: "Lord Annan, it's me."
"Do you think I will believe it? Ivana is so outstanding, how could she do such a thing. Come home with me and let my elder sister deal with you!"
Annan pulled Cathy, who looked sad on the surface but was actually smiling from ear to ear, and walked towards the city lord's mansion.
Ivana held the magic mirror, standing there, watching Annan and Cathy walk away alone...
Annan suddenly stopped, returned to Ivana, and took her hand: "Sister was talking about you yesterday, you should go back with us."
As soon as she led the two little ones back to the city lord's mansion, Cathy took Changyin and ran to Idiliya's office.
"Sister Idiliya!"
Annan handed the two of them to the elder sister, picked up the enrollment notice of the New Liberty City School placed aside and casually read it.
At night, Cathy and Ivana, who had played all day, fell asleep on the sofa in the lounge. Annan and his elder sister sat aside and listened to their subordinates report the number of applicants on the first day.
The Warrior Academy and Ranger Academy had the largest number of applicants, 663 and 511 respectively, followed by the Military Academy with 359, and the Political Academy and Magic Academy with slightly fewer, 114 for the former and only 68 for the latter... After all, magic requires talent.
"There are 13 more applicants for the Life Academy."
"130?" Annan said.
"13 people, everyone is not very interested in the Life Academy..."
Not to mention that the three upper academies train professionals, even the political and military academies of the lower academies are aimed at training officials, and the Life Academy... people don't know what they can learn.
But in fact, the Life Academy is the most complicated, covering everything from business trade to basic knowledge.
Annan thought for a moment: "Don't we still have so many farmers? Send them over after the autumn harvest."
...
When the official came to find Hunter and Jack with the registration book, the two were stunned
Hunter didn't respond, Jack asked tentatively: "Sir, I just want to be a farmer, why do I need to know how to read?"
"Learning is the ladder of progress."
"Will I become a noble after learning?"
"No, but you will become different."
"What is that?"
"Become a literate farmer."
