“Wow. It looks like a chick is trying to play brave. Unfortunately, you will not live to become a ‘golden hen’ after all.”

Aurora quickly asserted the situation and positioned herself in front of Natasha. They could not let anything happen to the Northern Princess.

Not now when Aurora and the company had been seen. Anything happening would put the Rocx Academy in a precarious position with the tower.

“Oh, what’s this? Is the kid trying to play a knight? But kids like you should learn to stay quiet or you’ll be killed.”

“Natasha, do you know magic?”

Aurora ignored the taunting voice of the assassins. They were spouting nonsense to distract Aurora and intimidate her.

She was sure the assassins would not risk killing Natasha but Aurora was a fair deal. It was her life on the line.

“I know some but nothing offensive. How should we deal with these people?”

Natasha did not sound worried in the least. Maybe she had figured out a similar conclusion to Aurora.

And if so, then Aurora was sure she was ready for the next step.

“I don’t need you to do anything offensively. Just give me some light and make it bright enough to obstruct my movements.”

Aurora got ready as soon as she felt the lights’ warmth.

“You bitch. My eyes! They burn.”

Since Aurora had her back to the light, she was not affected by the intense flow of the light. Instead, it helped mask her moments.

Shedding blood in front of an innocent victim like Natasha did not seem like a nice idea to Aurora but desperate times called for desperate measures.

The light helped so much that Aurora easily managed to dispose of the two assassins. But surprisingly enough, the third one was dealt with by one of the assassin’s accomplices.

The masked person cut down a charging assassin in half.

“Natasha, that is enough.”

The light was helpful at first but it was soon becoming a burden. The one assassin that had helped Aurora out did not look like an enemy to her.

As such, Aurora wanted to have small talk with them.

But she was not foolish enough to be at a disadvantage. It would not take long for the assassin to adjust to the light and then Aurora would be at a disadvantage.

“Greetings, Princess Natasha, Lady Aurora. My name is Blain. I was sent here by the order of Lord Karan to assist you.”

The assassin dropped down to his knees as soon as Aurora stepped forward.

Aurora quickly checked the masked figure for any lies or deceptions but it did say so in his aura. The man was likely telling the truth.

“Lord Karan? What did he ask of you exactly? I’m sorry to say but I don’t believe your words.”

Aurora did believe the man but she could not show it without hesitation. She needed to show at least some doubt before she could trust the man.

“It is understandable, my lady. You can put a temporary seal of obedience on me to make sure I don’t betray your interests.”

This was a tall order. A seal of obedience was no joke, even a temporary one as this person was suggesting.

As the name foretold, a seal of obedience was formed when two bodies agreed to a ‘servant’ contract. Under its influence, the one who was contracted had to follow his master’s words without any delay or question.

Failure to do so could lead to death or even worse. It was a magic-bounded contract.

For the assassin to even suggest this was a big deal. A morally right person will not think of subjecting anyone to such a contract.

But unfortunately, Aurora was not a morally right person. She was just someone who was looking after her interests.

And as such, this was a good opportunity to make use of.

“Blain, are you a citizen of the Northern Republic? Your answer will determine what I will do next. I might even kill you if you lie to me.”

Aurora was letting the person know that he should play games with her.

Rationally speaking, there were only two powers who could send a group of assassins inside the Northern Palace. Either the nobility or the Republic fraction.

And even among those people, Aurora could easily narrow down the suspect who had tried to kill Natasha like this.

“My lady, I am Blain Fedorov, a noble of the Northern Republic. However, my affiliations do not lie with the nobility. I am a member of the Republic fraction. I am here today to pledge my loyalty to my lady Natasha Kowalski.”

The man bowed down.

There had not been a single lie in his words. This man was serious in his words and actions. He had taken a great risk in identifying himself and Aurora knew that fact.

This man sure was daring but Aurora did not mind such a person.

“I understand. But I am in no need of a guard, nor a servant. I would rather pass you off to another’s hand.”

“My Lady?”

“Instead of me, the one you can have the contract with is Natasha. Won’t it be better for everyone?”

To be honest, Aurora did not want to get involved with the Northern Republic more than necessary.

She knew that she could not stay out of the loop completely but Aurora would be faced with her troubles soon.

So she wanted someone to stay by Natasha’s side in the meantime and protect her in Aurora’s place.

And what better person can do it than one who could play both sides.

“I understand. My lady Natasha, kindly take my oath.”

The man quickly caught on to Aurora’s thinking. It was nice to have such an obedient pawn on her side of the field.

She would use it to its full capacity when the time called for it. But for now, she would let it fall to the side.

“I…are you sure?”

“Yes,”

Aurora smiled a disarming smile and she could see Natasha relaxing. She was a natural ruler and her body language told her that.

Once the oath was done, the assassin stood up and looked Aurora right in the eye.

“Lady Aurora, there is something else you should know about. But it is not something meant for anyone else’s ears. Can we have a small private talk?”

The assassin sounded serious and that surprised Aurora. The man had asked to talk to Aurora in secret even after he swore the oath. It seemed like the topic he was about to talk about was extremely serious.

“I understand. Let’s talk in the study. Natasha, call us if anything happens.”
