10 – The beginning of the crisis (1)

The poor, the rich, the handsome, the ugly, everyone lives with a sense of inferiority, even if there is a difference in degree.

People who are good-looking but do not have a stable income are envious of ordinary, well-educated employees of large companies, and people who have succeeded only by studying are jealous of those who enjoyed love and pleasure in their youth.

Feeling inferior to someone who has something they want but don’t have.

So, those who have achieved great achievements or success will be envied and envy by those who have not.

Since entering the academy, I have never had success enough to make others feel inferior.

When I won the last mock battle, I only proved that I had excellent abilities as a commander, but people other than John, who suffered a crushing defeat, tried to treat it as a strange incident.

But, this time it’s different.

“To think that a commoner bastard who was lucky enough to enter the academy would dare to step forward, overtaking me, Gustav Haubringer…”

“How a lowly buggy goes wild without knowing where it is. It would be like digging my own grave with my own hands.”

“The Francois Republic will soon become the land of the Empire. Seeing an aristocrat who became a battalion commander killed by a commoner.”

To me, who was assigned to the front as a student platoon commander, and who accomplished the feat of defeating a battalion before the nobleman class leader even got used to the front line.

The fact that he was genuinely envious and jealous of me, who had lived as an insignificant commoner orphan, and wanted to diminish my achievements, washed away any feelings of inferiority I had toward nobles.

As I was savoring my current situation, which is incomparably better than before, I heard a voice calling me from the podium.

“Peter Yeager, student platoon leader! Climb up the podium.”

It was a low platform with only 10 steps because it was a battlefield at best, but every time I stepped on it one by one, I felt the envy of the officers, especially the student platoon commanders, in the back of my head.

It feels like all the humiliation I received after entering the academy without being a manager is washed away.

Of course, I have no intention of being satisfied here.

On the podium, there were a lot of people with ranks that even nobles, such as the adjutant of the division commander, regiment commander, deputy division commander, and chief of staff who had called me, could not afford to rise.

There was a student platoon leader next to those with the ranks of minimum major and maximum brigadier general, so for some reason I felt small and a bit embarrassed.

Not long after, the military band played and the division commander came up to the podium, touched my shoulder, and smiled.

In normal times, even if he made a huge achievement, an aristocratic officer, especially a division commander who is close to the final boss, would not be so kind to a student platoon leader…

That nobleman is also a soldier who risked his life for promotion before being a nobleman.

In particular, this front was the stage the crown prince had prepared to make the first military achievement in his life, so the eyes of all the core members of the imperial army were focused on it.

Depending on how you look here, the promotion to lieutenant general, captain, or marshal depended.

He didn’t do anything, but the platoon leader, a student from a commoner who is mostly treated as nothing more than baggage, annihilated a battalion and even cut the battalion commander’s throat…

Thinking of bragging about it as their ability, it would be to treat them so intimately.

After organizing my thoughts, I immediately responded with a statement of official rank.

“Student Platoon Leader Peter Yeager!”

“Looking at you, I understand why His Majesty the First didn’t put restrictions on the academy’s entry status! Very good, then let’s begin!”

At those words, I took a stand at attention, and the exclusive aide-de-camp spoke loudly as if declaring.

“Peter Yeager, a student platoon commander, responded to the call of the empire at the academy and applied for a platoon leader, standing at the forefront of the company in his first march, killing 3 wizards to reduce the company’s sacrifice, making a great contribution to annihilating one battalion of the Francois Republic, and battalion commander directly subjugated them, raising the dignity of the empire.”

It’s certainly a big deal that a student platoon leader who wasn’t even a second lieutenant wiped out a battalion of the Francois Republic and killed the battalion commander.

For the Empire and other countries, which now have dozens of divisions, this level of damage is nothing short of bloody.

So, strictly speaking, it should be said that the name spread only in the Rhineland front. good is good

“Therefore, this Division Commander, Stefan von Bolt, acting on behalf of His Majesty the Emperor, commissions Peter Jaeger as a second lieutenant and awards him with the Silver Cross, 2nd Class, and the accompanying injuries.”

In my heart, in fact, I almost certainly expected to be promoted to second lieutenant and receive the appropriate decorations.

This is because a single student platoon leader made a great contribution to destroying a battalion, so it was only right that he be commissioned directly with the authority of the division commander.

However, since it is the second class, it is inferior to the first class, but I did not expect that it would be awarded with the Silver Cross.

Because the Silver Cross is awarded only to soldiers or commanders who are recognized as great aces who have repeatedly achieved great achievements, unless they are veteran commanders of majors or higher.

At the same time, the commanders who received this medal before major were promoted to major and discharged regardless of their background, so the road to general was opened to some extent.

It is said that success requires luck as well as effort, and the division commander is blind to promotion, so thankfully it is a great help.

“Thank you so-called Peter Yeager!”

At the same time, the division commander put a medal on the right side of my uniform and a sword with fancy silver work on my waist.

“I hope to contribute more to the Empire in the future, Lieutenant Jaeger.”

“Yes, I understand!”

Then, looking at the officers looking up at me from below with a satisfied expression, the division commander said,

“Other student platoon commanders, like Lieutenant Yeager, make contributions to the Empire and raise the honor of the family. All dissolved above!”

**

The night he was promoted to second lieutenant, attracting the attention of all the officers and soldiers in the division.

Thanks to the division commander’s acknowledgment that our 4th company had made a special achievement, he exempted us from all alert duty and watch duty for three days.

Even the officers and soldiers of our company started drinking.

“Then once again! Cheers to the youngest who was promoted from student platoon leader to second lieutenant!”

After the company commander’s toast, the officers except me responded by shouting loudly.

“Congratulations on your promotion!”

“At first I thought it was a lump of luggage, but it turned out to be a lot of luck!”

Even if I had to be promoted, I would be behind the second lieutenant in front of me, but those people who had been in the field for more than a few years only received the Silver Cross or the Iron Cross.

That’s why he might be jealous, but the reason why he is obediently happy instead of showing that way.

Those seniors in the company are also a little behind me, but thanks to this victory, I got a lot of personnel evaluations necessary for promotion.

The company commander is also in a situation where a major career has been added to his resume when he is discharged from the rank of officer and goes to a security corps.

In other words, thanks to the new student platoon leader, everyone was able to take care of the open evaluation, so the situation became possible.

“Isn’t this possible because my senior platoon commanders taught me well?”

“When I went to war, it was two days after I was assigned, so we didn’t even have time to teach you? You speak well! A friend I like more. Anyway, since we got promoted, you buy our alcohol!”

“2nd Platoon Leader, stop harassing our poor second lieutenant!”

And I constantly drank alcohol from senior platoon commanders who were at least 7 to 8 years older than me and had more experience as noncommissioned officers.

It was the first time I drank so much alcohol in both my previous and this life, so my eyes were spinning and my stomach was full.

Is it because of the fact that he is recognized by his senior officers?

Even the headache caused by alcohol felt a little better, and I started to look forward to the future.

After drinking like that for about an hour, I went outside to pee to get a break from drinking.

The cool night air cooled my flushed face, so I came to my senses, but then I heard a conversation from the battalion barracks next to us.

“Martin! This time, our student platoon leader, the jockey, is screwed. If you go back to school without being as active as a commoner kid… You’ll be graduating in a while, then the promotion to major is almost over!”

“As a member of the Baron Hauria family, when you retire, you have to rise to the rank of lieutenant colonel to avoid the shame of the family. Damn, I was relieved that the battlefield situation was better than I thought. What the f*ck!”

“You are better than me. I feel like sh*t just thinking about it. The company commander and deputy company commander said that for the next month, I would think of myself as a puppet that would only move as I was told, and follow my steps according to my orders. If that goes down as a record…”

Hearing that, chills ran down my spine, and the spirit of the drink ran away.

What shocked me was not that I was angry or surprised that the nobles of the academy were so jealous of me, but that I had a premonition of a bigger disaster.

In preparation for a long-term service as a commander in the future, what will I do in a situation where I have to manage my career from here on out compared to me, who is unrivaled and outsmarted?

Even in the novel, it is said that the reason why the allies are being pushed back on the Rhineland frontline is because the Francois Republic Army attacked and wiped out the student platoon commanders who acted arbitrarily in the desire to make a contribution.

Judging from the way they talk, it is clear that at any time, if Francois throws ground rice, they will turn into dogs blinded by their exploits and run out and bite them.

When I interviewed for the academy in the past, I talked about a situation similar to that one.

f*cking like this, you f*cking bastards can’t do it.

Even an inexperienced student like me would not have been in such a situation if the platoon he was entrusted with had trained well, but the subjects who did not do that are complaining without knowing their skills.

And for several days after that, the Francois Army and the Reich Imperial Army did not fight, and during that time I was thinking about how to overcome this crisis.

I have to turn this crisis into an opportunity so I can move on to the next step.
