Chapter 428 - Back To The Secret Oasis Above It All (1)

Liz took in the sight of a clearing that had a table set up for lunch and a bench. But that was not the main thing. What took her breath away was the massive cherry tree in full bloom which towered above the clearing.

Bushes framed the clearing on three sides, opening toward the West to expose the view of tree canopies which are stretching below with Seattle's skyline in the distance and the Pacific Ocean in the back.

Max brought her to the secret oasis above it all… it's his grandmother's house.

They were here in May last year, and she remembered thoughts that it must look magical when the cherry tree is in full bloom, and now that she is seeing it, she confirmed that it's fantastic.

"Thank you, Max…", Liz said under her breath as her eyes scanned the light pink blooms which formed the majestic crown of the tree.

Max was happy to see her lit up face again.

He took her hand in his and led the way toward the table.

Liz was surprised to see the elegantly arranged food that was kept over small portable burners so that it does not get cold.

She didn't ask how this elaborate setup got here because over time she realized that Max has many people who work for him from the shadows.

This lunch was different from the previous time when they ate sandwiches and salad from mason jars. However, that simple meal was scrumptious, and its taste could compare with the food served in the most luxurious restaurant because she had it with Max, and he arranged it for them. Max makes everything better.

Liz watched him as he opened a bottle of wine and poured them a glass each. She stopped taking painkillers two weeks ago, but Max told her not to drink alcohol so that she does not risk losing control and aggravating her injury. Now that that the shoulder-brace is gone, wine is back on the menu.

They clinked glasses and Liz took a sip of wine.

Max laughed when Liz smacked her lips in satisfaction.

"I will take that you approve of the wine."

Liz hummed in confirmation and took another sip. "It's perfect."

"I have something for you…", Max said and put a big flat box in front of her.

Liz's eyebrows shoot up and she wondered what is inside.

"Oh…", a sound escaped her when she saw that it's a printout of Dr. Thomas's research paper, and Dr. Elizabeth Williams is named on the first page as the main contributor. It was about the virus that attacks the neural system, and about the vaccine Dr. Thomas created in collaboration with Liz.

"It will be released on Monday, and Dr. Thomas sent an advance copy for you.", Max explained. "She sent it to me with a note to make the reveal more special than just opening a parcel from the mailbox, and I thought that it will be perfect for this occasion when we are celebrating your return to the work you love."

Liz understood that Max is talking about her being able to resume performing surgeries. She was genuinely moved. Max is always sweet and caring and he makes everything special. However, this research paper reminded Liz of her missed chance to get invited to the symposium of neurosurgeons. She forced those negative thoughts away and hoped that Max didn't notice because she didn't want to spoil this perfect moment with her selfishness.

She told herself to focus on all the wonderful things she has, instead of on the one thing that escaped her.

"Thank you, Max.", Liz said softly and kept the printout back in the box. "This is very nice of you and of Dr. Thomas, but I will keep this for tomorrow." She saw that Max frowned slightly in confusion and she quickly added, before he could ask any questions: "The shoulder-brace is gone and I can return to my work as usual, however, that will be tomorrow because today I want to focus on the two of us. Just us… in this oasis at the top of the world."

"Alright. We can do that…", Max said. He was more than happy to focus just on Liz and him.

Liz leaned on the backrest of the bench and gazed up at the pink tree canopy. "This is spectacular. Thank you for bringing me here, Max. I can't believe that you remembered our talk from last year."

"I remember everything about you, sweets.", Max said and pecked her lips. "Allow me to cut the steak for you."

Liz was about to take the knife from him, but he moved his hand out of her reach.

"My hand is better now.", Liz protested.

"I know. I'm not doing this because I think you are disabled, but because you deserve every bit of pampering I can give."

Liz opened her mouth and closed it. She was out of arguments.

"Just relax and enjoy the Max-special treatment that only my girlfriend can afford."

Liz exhaled helplessly and watched Max as he cut her steak with the focus like he handling something precious that will be spoiled if mishandled.

He fed her and they chatted in a good mood over a meal.

"Tell me about your grandmother…", Liz demanded.

"She was a kind woman, always making sure everyone is taken care of. But if she tells you to clean up after yourself and five minutes later the mess is still there, you are in a heap of trouble… She had a thing hanging at the back of the kitchen's cabinet and guests thought it's a fly swatter, but we kids knew better. When that thing came out, we were running for cover… And I was always amazed by how fast she can run and catch me in order to whip my bottom…"

Liz laughed at Max's stories from his childhood. He knew how to make every story interesting by adding sounds and various expressions, and sometimes he would wave his arms to make a point.

The time passed, and Liz didn't notice that they finished the food and that the clouds gathered in the sky, covering the sun occasionally.

Liz shivered when the chilly wind blew, catching her by surprise and making her cardigan insufficient to protect her from the sudden cold. A second later, Max draped his jacket around her shoulders.

His hands rested on her for a second longer than necessary, and when he pulled them back, she grabbed his hands.

"Thank you, Max. All this is wonderful.", Liz said and inched closer to him. "You know how to make me feel special."

"The only thing I do is reminding you that you are special."

Liz was confident that no one can be sweeter than Max.

She pecked his lips, and Max pulled her to sit on his lap.

"I remember this…", Liz spoke while smiling at the memory that drifted at the front of her mind. "When we were here last time, you held me like this on this same bench. You kissed me and my mind was spinning. Before I met you, I didn't know that kissing can be so intoxicating."

"Mmm…", Max hummed. "Let's see if we can do that again."

His lips moved against hers in a sensual dance, making her forget about the world around them as their flavors mixed and she confirmed that his kisses are comparable to the effect of drinking a bottle of wine, at least.

Liz gripped his shoulders when he deepened the kiss and she melted into him.

His hand moved from her knee under her skirt, gliding higher while squeezing her thigh occasionally.

Max was happy that her skirt is wide, allowing his hand to move to the inside of her thighs without any obstruction.

"Ah…", a moan escaped her when the tips of his fingers brushed against her panties and she spread her legs to give him easier access.

Max groaned when he felt how wet she was. Knowing that she wants him was the biggest turn-on ever. And the way she clung to him was a definite sign that she wants him.

"Make love to me, Max…", Liz breathed, and the last ounce of control Max had disappeared into nothingness.

He carelessly pushed the items off the table, making utensils and plates fall on the ground with a clatter, and a few things broke but he didn't care.

The last five weeks of not feeling Liz's welcoming heat while holding her close and inhaling her scent were torturous and he was impatient to hear all the sweet sounds she releases when she gets lost in lust.

Max lifted Liz with ease and put her to sit on the table. He pushed her skirt up and tugged her panties down.

Liz's heart was beating wildly, and she wondered what Max is up to when he sat back on the bench.

She inhaled sharply when he pulled her to sit at the edge of the table with her legs spread around him, and his face was perfectly aligned with her wet flower, which was aching for his touch.

He looked up to meet her eyes and he didn't blink as he inched closer and kissed her deeply while making sure that his tongue dances over her clit.

Max smiled when Liz cursed loudly, and he continued licking and sucking while she fisted his hair.
