Chapter 37 – Assassination

They arrived at a house shortly later.

“Take care.” Jia Qizhe leaned over to her ears and whispered, “I have a bad feeling about this.”

Gu Qingyu nodded, “I will. You too.”

After having a meal, everyone headed to their assigned rooms.

Should she find Murong Zuoyu to have a little chat or not… Gu Qingyu was still pondering over this question.

Darn it, wasn’t it just an apology?

Gu Qingyu made up her mind. She went up to Murong Zuoyu’s door with a straight face and knocked on it.

The door opened. Murong Zuoyu didn’t seem to be going to sleep yet, as he still wore his purple robe.

“Brother~Mu~rong~” Gu Qingyu’s bright and sunny trademark smile graced her face.

Murong Zuoyu cast her a cold glance, mingled with a small trace of shock and amazement, “Do you need anything?”

“Well, not really~” Gu Qingyu took one long step into Murong Zuoyu’s room before she continued, because she didn’t want the others to think that she was a pervert, “Just wanted to find someone to~have~a~heart to heart~chat~by~the~candlelight~”

“Xiao Qi’s room is right next to mine.” Murong Zuoyu’s didn’t react as his face remained expressionless.

“I know, I know~” Gu Qingyu nodded, “But, it is you who I want to talk with.”

Murong Zuoyu pointed towards a chair in his room.

Gu Qingyu sat down, “By the way, Brother Murong, aren’t you curious as to why I have some unfinished business with the second miss?”
“Pretty much, I can guess what happened.” Murong Zuoyu said frankly.

So it wasn’t that he didn’t want to ask, but that he knew already?

Murong Zuoyu continued, “You must have your own difficulties if you don’t want to tell me, what else is there for me to ask?”

When he said that, Gu Qingyu could feel a wave of shame and guilt flooding her heart, “I was wrong! Brother Murong, to be honest with you, I’m…”

“Look out!” Before she knew it, Murong Zuoyu suddenly pulled her, and parried with the sword in his hand.

Gu Qingyu reeled and stumbled forward. When she raised her head, she saw that the windows had been broken, and several black clothed people stood outside.

“What do they want?” Gu Qingyu looked at Murong Zuoyu with a perplexed look, “Could they be here to kill me?”

“Most likely.” Murong Zuoyu gripped the sword with his right hand and let his left fingers gently glide across the sword blade. A purple light burst forth as his fingers touched the blade and followed as he swept.

“So amazing, my brother!” Gu Qingyu sighed.

Murong Zuoyu jumped out of the window and started battling with the black clothed men.

“Careful!” A voice suddenly sounded through. A white figure flashed in front of her, the fan in his hand whirled around, blocking the incoming flying darts, “I just told you to more careful, Brother Zhu.”

“Qi Yichen!” Gu Qingyu looked at him first, then looked outside. Jia Qizhe and Mo Bai had also joined the battle.

“That’s right, we came here specifically to protect you, Boss~” Qi Wan walked in with a bright smile on his face.

“Oh right, Qi Wan, what kind of weapon do you use? Since I’ve never seen you use any…” Gu Qingyu scratched her head.

“Oh, Boss, are you interested in seeing my weapon? Then let me show you!” Qi Wan smiled cheerfully. He held out his hand. A long dark green ribbon flew out, wrapping around the man who just broke into the door, then threw him out of the windows.

“What a… rough move.” Gu Qingyu evaluated his weapon, then looked at the group of men continuously pouring through the door, “Qi Wan, attack!”

“Yes, my lord!” Many ribbons flew out of Qi Wan’s body.

“Qi Yichen, what else can your fan be used for? Other than defense.” Gu Qingyu asked Qi Yichen curiously.

Qi Yichen smiled faintly, “Killing people,”

A paper fan used to kill people? Although she had read about it in books before, but really sounded unrealistic when she heard about it…

“Why? You don’t believe me?” The fan in Qi Yichen’s hand suddenly flew out and shoot towards one of the enemies. It brushed lightly past the man’s neck, then flew back to Qi Yichen’s hand.

The man stopped. Blood sprayed out of his neck after.

She wasn’t sure when, but Qi Yichen’s fan had turned into an iron fan, illuminating a faint white light on the surface.

Qi Yichen closed the fan and propped it gently against his chin, “In comparison… you’re a tad bit weak, Brother Zhu.”

… How could I forget that this was a world of magic! How could I forget the wickedness and strength of the scholar in front of me!!

Gu Qingyu rolled her eyes in disdain, “My proportions are good, my face is handsome, I’m smart, cool, beautiful, and cute If I had even an ounce of strength, then how would you carry on living?”

… Although I have no clue what you’re talking about, it sounds pretty reasonable!

On the contrary, Qi Wan understood everything and burst out laughing. One of the men took this chance to sweep in.

Gu Qingyu shot out an arrow from her sleeve, piercing through the man’s neck, killing the man behind. She said, smiling, “Careful~ 70k~”

“Y-yes!” Qi Wan stammered. He mumbled quietly to himself, “Where the hell is this considered as having no attack strength…”

A cold sweat ran down Qi Yichen’s back, “Brother Zhu…”

“Eh.” Gu Qingyu answered, and fiddled with an arrow in her hands, “Seems like the destructive power after remodelling still isn’t enough…”

“… Brother Zhu, let’s talk this over nicely…”

Soon, more and more the black clothed men arrived, the situation was almost identical to that time when they went up the mountain looking for Qi Yichen’s master.

“Let me have a go at it, Qi Wan.” Just as her words fell, Qi Wan flashed to her behind.

Qi Wan panted slightly, he was clearly somewhat tired.

The corpses of the men piled up in the house.

“Mm…” Gu Qingyu slowly shut her eyes, a white mist took form around her, “Ancient. Frost. Seal!”

A layer of ice started to spread out from her feet, freezing the continuously entering men in place.

“Yooh~ I am quite powerful!” said Gu Qingyu smugly.

“My brother, so powerful…” Qi Wan sighed, “This is far more than just powerful… Where did you learn this, Boss?”
“Mm, Bloodlife Jade taught me.” Gu Qingyu nodded.

Bloodlife Jade could teach her magic, this could be used to explain where her magic came from. But regarding Venerable Flame, it was better to keep that a secret.

“Very powerful.” Qi Yichen commented. He looked like he was somewhat pondering over something.

Xiao Qi warily walked in through the door, “This looks terrifying…”

“Unfortunately, this spell is quite draining on my body.” Gu Qingyu shot out several arrows from her sleeve, killing a couple of the men that continued gushing in from the outside. She yelled to Jia Qizhe, Murong Zuoyu and Mo Bai, who were fighting outside, “There are too many enemies, let’s run away!” She beckoned to them. Xiao Qi ran to her side.

“You go first, we’ll delay them for a bit.” Jia Qizhe was locked in battle, but his voice sounded as indifferent as ever.

“I am going to protect the villagers, you guys leave first.” As expected of the virtuous prince, Murong Zuoyu’s tone was also very calm.

“Brother Zhu, take care of yourself.” With an opening, Mo Bai threw a leaf to her.

“Ok!” Gu Qingyu answered, then spoke to Qi Yichen, “Since their target is me, let’s split up in two and go separately. Take Xiao Qi with you, I’ll go with Qi Wan.”

“Why?” Qi Yichen frowned before finally nodding his head, “All right. Go from here, and keep moving south, there’ll be a valley there. Let’s meet up at the valley!”

Gu Qingyu nodded, and set off with Qi Wan.

The black clothed men tried to give chase to her, but they were intercepted by the five, and only a small group of men managed to get through.

It was destined to be a tumultuous night.

When it was only Qi Wan by her side, Gu Qingyu finally dared to act freely, transforming into her cat form and went on a rampage.

Qi Wan complained, “I’m exhausted! I hate running!”
“Exercise is good for both your mind and body!” Gu Qingyu rolled her eyes, although she was also worn out.

Qi Wan suddenly spread his wings out, then grabbed Gu Qingyu and flew straight up from the ground.

The black clothed men were stunned for a moment before summoning out their wings and flew up after them.
Gu Qingyu fiddled with the arrows in her hand, before shooting down the men, one after another.

“Boss, careful…” Qi Wan looked scared, “Don’t hit my-… Stay calm…”

“Don’t worry, trust in me.” Gu Qingyu leisurely shot out another set of arrows.
Seeing that only one enemy remained, Gu Qingyu’s lips curled up before sending out her final shot.

The black clothed man was hit, but he pressed forward and threw a flying dart at them.

The flying dart immediately split into ten, the ten split into a hundred, and shot towards them.

Qi Wan winced as he was hit several times, and his wings were shot. He embraced Gu Qingyu as his body went rigid and fell down straight through the sky.

“Qi Wan—” Gu Qingyu looked at Qi Wan, who was falling down with her, “Qi Wan, how are you feeling?”

Qi Wan chuckled, then spit out a mouthful of blood. Just before they were going to collide into a large boulder, a ribbon flew out of his sleeve, wrapping around a tree. His hands fastened around her waist, while they hung in the air.

Below them was a cliff. You could vaguely hear the sound of water.

“Qi Wan? Are you fine?” Gu Qingyu looked at his face, his complexion was pale white.

Qi Wan shook his head. He clenched his teeth tightly together and the ribbon rolled up, flying towards the tree.

When they finally reached the ground, Gu Qingyu hurriedly supported Qi Wan, who was about to fall down, “Hang in there, there’s a cave right ahead.”
Qi Wan nodded his head and did his best to walk forward, supported by Gu Qingyu.

As they arrive at the cave, Gu Qingyu slowly put down Qi Wan, then piled up some firewood. She placed her hand on the firewood and it slowly began to flare up.
This was magic that Venerable Flames had taught her.

With the bright light from the fire, Gu Qingyu saw that the blood was still running from Qi Wan’s wounds!!

Gu Qingyu quickly ripped off some cloth from her clothing and bound it around his wounds.

What should I do next?!

Oh right! Mo Bai’s herbs!

Gu Qingyu swiftly took out that leaf, and put it gently in Qi Wan’s mouth.

Qi Wan’s face was still as pale, but his lips restored some color.

Then, Gu Qingyu gave him some water. Qi Wan slowly coughed as he slowly opened his eyes. Qi Wan looked around before heaving a gentle sigh, “That scared me to death! I thought that I’d gone back!”

Gu Qingyu obviously knew what he meant by “gone back”.

“Wouldn’t that be for the best?” Gu Qingyu sat in front of him and countered by asking.

“I don’t even have your number yet!” Qi Wan curled his lips.

Gu Qingyu started laughing, “Why is your obsession so strong?”

Yes, even though he was still losing blood, he still held her hands tightly, unwilling to let go.

The sacrifices he made just to make sure she lived.

Could it really be just because he wanted to go back home?

Qi Wan shrugged his shoulders, “Yeah, you could say so.”

“Is it because there’s someone you can’t let go?” Gu Qingyu stared into the burning fire.

Qi Wan shook his head, then nodded again, “Yes, and no.”

Gu Qingyu was a bit put off by his ambiguous answer, then laughed as well.

Mm, yes and no.
