Chapter 40 – Digging For Wild Vegetables

Venerable Flames laughed, “Good.”

As his words fell, he held out his hand. He cut the palms of his and Gu Qingyu’s hands, then clasped their cut hands together, letting the scalding blood fuse.

Gu Qingyu felt a flame bursting out of her body, she immediately opened her eyes and roared out loudly.

Earth shattering. In all its majesty.

Like a… tiger.

Her thundering roar made both Jia Qizhe and Xue Zang reeled in shock in the middle of their battle.

Gu Qingyu slowly opened her eyes.

Her hair fell down. The hairband burned up as it fell to the ground. A fiery red color lingered at the ends of her hair and the pupils of her eyes had turned dark red.

She looked at Jia Qizhe, making sure that he didn’t have any injuries before looking at the person before her.

“Xue Zang? Is it really you?” Gu Qingyu looked very surprised.

“It is indeed me.” Xue Zang laughed, “Little kitty, your friend is rather strong… but looks like you’re not so bad either.”

“Of course.” Gu Qingyu laughed with him and noticed her hair at the same time.

She felt extremely good, both inside and out, as if her conception and governing vessels governing vessels had opened up in that instant, increasing her strength by leaps and bounds.

“Just wondering, do you really have to take the Blood Spirit Bead?” Xue Zang blinked, his eyes sparkled, extremely good looking.

“Do you… have something that’s troubling you in giving it away?” asked Gu Qingyu, she seemed to have caught onto something.

Xue Zang was surprised by her question. A short moment of sadness emerged in his eyes, but quickly vanished in the same second, turning into a smile, “If I say yes, will you still want it?”

Gu Qingyu stared at him blankly, unable to speak.

Truth to be told, she hadn’t thought about this yet.

If I say yes, will you still want it?

He used “I”, and not “Your lordship”.

Seeing her not speaking, Xue Zang didn’t continue to wait for her answer, and just shrugged his shoulders, “Stop overthinking, my little kitty. Your lordship can indeed bestow you the Blood Spirit Bead, but you’ll have to agree to a condition of mine.”

“What kind of condition?” Gu Qingyu looked at Xue Zang.

“Let Your lordship go with you.” Xue Zang slightly raised his head.

… Gu Qingyu opened her mouth speechlessly, “You’re the City Lord of Bloodglaze City. You don’t have to worry about food or clothing. Why would you want to follow a nameless nobody like me?”

“Because Your lordship likes to.” Xue Zang lightly threw out a word.

… So arrogant! So cocky! So unreasonable! So Xue Zang!

“About that… you have to think this through carefully…” Gu Qingyu cleared her throat, “You can ask Jia Qizhe, he’s been following me these past couple of days. He’s been digging for wild vegetables every day. When he’s thirsty, he would drink dew, and when hungry, he would try to find some wild fruits to eat. He would also get hit if the masters were in bad moods”

Jia Qizhe’s eyes suddenly darkened, sending dangerous looks at Gu Qingyu.

Cold sweat ran at the back of Gu Qingyu’s head, “Uhh, that… I think I mixed it up… I meant that I was the one digging for wild vegetables every day. Finding some drops of dews when thirsty, and wild fruits when hungry. I even get hit when the masters are in bad moods.”

Jia Qizhe squinted his eyes and gave Gu Qingyu a dirty look.

Gu Qingyu didn’t know what she said wrong, and looked at Xue Zang, “Ehem, anyways, in short, if you come with me, you’ll definitely have a difficult time!”

When Gu Qingyu fully recovered from her daze, she found to her surprise, a bead in her hand.

The bead was dark red, with a small petal of a Bloodglaze Flower in the middle.

Venerable Flames floated around in the air, putting his hand to his chin, “Mmhm, this is a genuine spirit bead.”

The bright red glow on the ends of her hair gradually diminished, and her eyes restored its original color.

Jia Qizhe didn’t ask anything, just softly laughed, “Let’s leave.”

“… Okay.” Gu Qingyu didn’t say much either.

Jia Qizhe, thank you.

Gu Qingyu arrived at a building in a rather remote area, following Qi Wan’s signs.

When Qi Wan saw Gu Qingyu coming, he stood up immediately, “Boss, so quick? I thought you would be fighting with that demon for three days three night! How did it go? Did you get the spirit bead?”

“That’s enough.” Gu Qingyu rolled her eyes, “Is there anything that I can’t do?”

Although Qi Yichen looked at her in disbelief, “Brother Zhu, you managed to get it?”

Gu Qingyu showed up the spirit bead jauntily, “Look at how amazing your daddy is!”

“Daddy, you’re so amazing!” Qi Wan repeated.

“Ey, good daughter~” Gu Qingyu smiled brightly and put away the spirit bead.

Daddy?

Xiao Qi and the rest’s faces turned green.

Although they didn’t know what that meant, but they had heard “Dad” before, so it probably means “Father”?

And there was no need to say anything about “Daughter”…

“Did the city lord ask for anything in exchange?” Mo Bai’s gentle and pleasant voice rose.

Gu Qingyu’s face darkened in an instant, “He wants to join us, and look for the other spirit beads together! He’s probably already at the city gates waiting for us.”

Mo Bai nodded and silently took out a couple of herbs, then started to walk towards the city gate.

“If I’m not wrong, those are some poisonous herbs.” The bright and quick Qi Yichen said.

Gu Qingyu got a jolt, and immediately dashed forwards and grabbed Mo Bai’s sleeves, refusing to let go, “Brother Mo! Do not get worked up, impulse is the devil!”

“I am very much calm.” Mo Bai laughed. He slowly put away the herbs as Gu Qingyu kept staring at him persistently.

Murong Zuoyu looked at Gu Qingyu, and coldly asked, “Why does he want to join us?”

“Like I’d know!” Gu Qingyu stared at him in a tearless grief, “Great, as if we weren’t short on food expenses already! We might really have to go dig for wild vegetables, drink dew from the leaves and eat wild fruits!”

Everyone:… Did something we don’t know about happen?

“But, Boss…” Qi Wan looked at Gu Qingyu and handed over a ribbon, “Why is your hair loose? Like someone molested you or something? Could it be Brother Jia?”

It was a question that they all had in their minds.

“Get lost.” Gu Qingyu grabbed the ribbon and bound her hair.

As the words fell from Gu Qingyu’s mouth, a strand of Qi Wan’s hair was cut off.

Jia Qizhe coolly put his sword back.

Qi Wan opened his eyes wide in horror. He didn’t dare to mess around again: Mess with Mo Bai, he’d be at risk; Mess with Jia Qizhe, he’d be in danger!

Gu Qingyu put up her hair, then silently sighed in relief to herself: Thank god she never used that headband Jia Qizhe had bought her as present from last time, otherwise it would’ve been burned down to crisp!

However, Murong Zuoyu was immersed in his own thoughts.

Why did Brother Zhu look so much like a female when his hair was down…

Whatever, I must’ve been thinking too much.

The group of people arrived shortly at the gate, and as expected, Xue Zang was waiting there, leaning towards a tree.

“Little kitty, you let me wait for quite a while…” Xue Zang yawned, he did, however, resemble a lazy cat.

“Little kitty?” Qi Wan repeated again, and looked at Gu Qingyu. He revealed a vague smile.

Jia Qizhe swept him a brief look, and Qi Wan immediately covered his mouth.

Qi Wan felt bitter, but Qi Wan said nothing!

“Where’s our next stop?” Qi Yichen asked.

Gu Qingyu closed her eyes slowly, then after a while, said what Venerable Flames told her, “Northern Shadow Kingdom.”

Northern Shadow Kingdom is located in the northern part of the continent, a prosperous and wealthy kingdom.

“There are…” Gu Qingyu added.

“I don’t know why…” Xiao Qi patted her forehead, “But I keep sensing this feeling of familiarity…”

Sense of familiarity?

“Xiao Qi, did you grow up there?” Qi Wan asked curiously.

“How is that possible!” Xiao Qi frowned, “I’ve been by my husband’s side ever since I was little! I am his child bride!”

… Your sister can be your child bride!

Gu Qingyu felt the veins pop out of her head, she asked Xiao Qi in a very mild and civil manner, “My dear Xiao Qi, are you sure that you’ve never been to Northern Shadow Kingdom?”

“Husband, are you doubting Xiao Qi?” Xiao Qi asked instead, she bit her lower lips, looking very pitiful and sad.

“You silly girl.” Gu Qingyu embraced Xiao Qi, “How could I possibly doubt you.”

Xiao Qi had been with the original host since small, and even if Gu Qingyu had just recently transmigrated here, she could still feel how good Xiao Qi was to her. So, even if she were going to doubt someone, it would definitely never be Xiao Qi.

Xiao Qi nodded, and started to speak, “I was already by Xiao Fan’s side ever since I was very young. Although I do kind of want to know my own background after growing up, but the madame seems to be keeping it a secret from me…”

Keeping it a secret?

“Then, let’s go to Northen Shadow Kingdom and have a look then. We might even be able to find our Xiao Qi’s real origin.” Qi Yichen waved his fan.

“Okay.” Gu Qingyu agreed with him and nodded, “But… where are we right now?”

“We’re in the territory of Bloodglaze City, close to Eastern String Kingdom.” Murong Zuoyu answered.

“… In other words, we’re at the eastern end of this large continent and have to go all the way to the northern end of this large continent?”

“Correct.”

“You~carry the burden~~, I~ pull the horse~” Gu Qingyu howled in grief. 1

“What kind of song is this…” Xiao Qi asked weakly.

“This one is from the Great Tang of the eastern lands, on my way to the Western Paradise to seek for the sacred scriptures from Buddha!” Gu Qingyu cast Qi Wan a look, “Wukong!”

“Master!” Qi Wan replied at once.

Xiao Qi, “…” Why does it feel like the relationship between these two has become even more extreme?

Xue Zang asked, “Little kitty, didn’t you say that your life was hard?”

Life was hard?

Everyone turned their eyes to Gu Qingyu.

“About that…” Gu Qingyu scratched her head.

“Didn’t you say that you would be digging for wild vegetables every day?” Xue Zang asked curiously again.

“A-about that…” Gu Qingyu stammered.

“Didn’t you say that you drank dew water and ate wild fruit or alike?” Xue Zang appeared even more curious.

“I…” Gu Qingyu simply wanted to just run up and shut his mouth.

“Didn’t you say that you would get hit every day if these fellow masters were in bad moods?” Xue Zang glanced at everyone.

Everyone stared at Gu Qingyu: Fellow masters?

“About that, I had my own predicaments!” Gu Qingyu’s face turned gloomy.

“Brother Zhu, I never imagined that we let you suffer for so long!” Qi Yichen let out a sigh.

Gu Qingyu hurried to wave her hands, “No, no, no! Not at all!”

“Brother Zhu, we let you search for wild vegetables?” Murong Zuoyu raised his eyebrows.

“Absolutely not!” Gu Qingyu shook her head like a wave, she almost couldn’t let out any sound.

“Brother Zhu, we let you drink the dew from the leaves and eat wild fruits?” Qi Wan at towards Gu Qingyu as well.

“How could that be possible!” Gu Qingyu did her best to integrate herself with them.

“Brother Zhu, when we were in bad moods, we even hit you?” Mo Bai let out a sigh as well.
