Chapter 4 – Ability

The time to say farewell to Lynn had come. People from church came to the inn the next day to explain the situation. Lynn’s parents wouldn’t hold her back if she was motivated, because they knew they couldn’t stop her.

Lynn would enter the Knight’s school and receive an education for her intellect and strength. The only thing I was relieved of was that there were four other Heroes this year. I heard the country’s leading figures were very excited.

Well, that had nothing to do with me. Lynn was the talk of the town for the first week or so. Adventurers visiting the inn were always talking about her, but things had settled down by now. I went back to my usual routine, helping out in the inn as usual. Lynn’s absence made the work a little more difficult, but we already solved that by hiring a new part-time worker, a 15 year old beast girl named Mear. She was a lovely person that could soon become our poster girl.

The first time I saw her, I unexpectedly got the feeling that she could take on the work Lynn had been doing until now.

It was a busy day. Many adventurers were around who had previously visited the inn’s cafeteria because of Lynn. The popularity of the inn had risen quite a bit.

When I was cleaning a table of leftovers, I heard Mear scream and looked up quickly. Apparently she’d dropped a plate, and the pieces were scattered all over the floor. She started hastily picking up the pieces on the spot, but even that looked kind of sloppy.

“I’ll do it, Mear, so keep cleaning the table over there.”

“Ah, y-yeah, s-sorry…”

She was very apologetic and headed to the table in a hurry. When I grabbed a big chunk of the plate…

< Item can be destroyed with the Creation Hammer. A new plate can be created. >

What? I tilted my head to the voice that suddenly sounded. There were only noisy adventurers around. I don’t know what that was… maybe my Divine Treasure? Is it possible to use that here? I took out the hammer, and just when I went to strike the debris, I heard the voice again.

< Do you want to collect the materials of the plate? >

No one around was saying anything to me. No doubt about it, that voice is in my head.

< Do you want to collect the pieces of the plate? >

I don’t even know anymore, let’s just do it. When I touched it with the hammer, the pieces of the plate disappeared.

Can I do this to all of them? I tried touching the other pieces as well, and all the debris disappeared somewhere.

I don’t get it. Is it okay to clean it up like this?

The work was over an hour later. The cafeteria was completely quiet and I was doing the last bit of cleanup. Mear came over to me and lowered her head while her dog ears and tail were shaking.

“R-Relius! Thank you very much, you really helped me today!”

“That’s okay, just be more careful next time.”

“Uh, yes! …I’m really sorry.”

She was still so apologetic. Come to think of it, I didn’t really care at the time, but what actually happened to the pieces of that plate?

< Do you want to create a new plate using the ceramic fragments? >

Eh? There was that voice again. The only person here was Mear, and she was desperately cleaning the cafeteria. No doubt that was the voice from earlier, coming from inside my own head. Creating a new plate… I don’t know, should I try it?

When I agreed with the voice, the next moment I found a picture of a plate in my mind. What the hell is this? I thought about grabbing it, like taking it out of a cupboard, and a plate just appeared in front of me… it was the same one we used in the cafeteria.

Mear noticed me standing there confused. “Hmm? What’s that?”

“Ah, nothing. This, uh, this plate just happened to be here. I’m going to clean it up a little.”

“Oh, okay… and Relius, you can go on ahead, I’ll handle the rest.”

“Will you? All right, then, go for it.”

We usually worked as a team until we finished, but I’d gotten anxious. After tidying up the tools, I went back to my room. If it’s possible… this is definitely because of Blacksmith, right?

The Blacksmith occupation that I hadn’t given a second thought about because of everything going on with Lynn. I thought I didn’t need to think about it, because Blacksmith was one of the most unnecessary occupations in the world.

I thought about the Blacksmith occupation in my mind.

Blacksmith
Level 1 [1/10]

What is this? I haven’t seen anything like it before. I’m not really sure what the numbers mean. That’s when I tilted my head and looked around. What the hell is this!? I wanted to shout. This thing popping up in front of me shouldn’t exist!

Part of it was a big list of things that can and can’t be created. Apparently, I couldn’t create any large objects such as the bed I was sitting on, but I could create a pillow. It seemed like basically any small item could be created, but there were two conditions. One was that I needed to destroy an object with the Creation Hammer in order to reproduce it. The other was that I seem to need raw materials to do it.

When looking at something that could be created, the materials needed were also written. However, it also says it’s possible to use the things destroyed with the Creation Hammer as raw materials, so at the very least, I can always recreate something after destroying it.

I was starting to get a headache from all these words filling up my field of vision from every little thing in the room.

“Can it at least be a little easier to see?”

Only show me something when I want to create it! The moment I thought that way, a lot of the text disappeared from my view. Wow…

I looked at the plate in my hand… and the text about creating it appeared. That made things so much easier.
