Am I a Saint? No, I’m the Villainess!
Chapter 5
PRINCE REZEDA, ONCE MORE
“Iris! Iris! His Highness Rezeda wants to meet you!”
Her father, Marquis de Chevalie, excitedly burst through the door.
Iris was astonished. She hadn’t seen him since the tea party. Even though she knew why she would be alienated, she didn’t know what reason they would need to meet.
“Isn’t there some kind of mistake?”
“No. It’s unmistakeably you. A week from now, a tea party will be held at the royal palace. They want Iris to head up the royal palace too.”
“I will refuse.”
Iris answered immediately.
“Ahahaha! Iris says funny things, doesn’t she? There’s no way you can say no, right? Buy whatever you need as you like.”
Marquis Chevalie said so and left the room.
“A man like a typhoon.”
When Iris muttered so, one of the maids chuckled.
Today was the day they go up to the royal palace. Iris reluctantly got on the carriage. After much grumbling, it was eventually decided that Nigel would go with her.
On top of Marquis Chevalie’s beloved half-up vertical roll hairstyle was a big ribbon. Luxurious gloves were prepared even though she said she didn’t need them, and she decided to leave the gorgeous gloves in the carriage without wearing them. She thought that she would show off the pockmarks again this time and be greatly disliked.
“Ah, how depressing, I really don’t want to.”
When she grumbled so in the carriage, Nigel laughed saying it can’t be helped.
“Because, what are we even supposed to talk about.”
She wasn’t like Nigel who shared hobbies between boys. Rezeda and Nigel may be friends, but he was a stranger to Iris.
When they arrived at the royal palace, they were guided to a small greenhouse. White flowers bloomed.
Amongst them were Rezeda and his brother, Prince Bleue. Bleue was five years older than Rezeda, turning eighteen years old this year.
She’d seen him from a distance, but this was her first time meeting Bleue.
“Lady Iris, isn’t it? Nigel also came.”
“You called for this Iris de Chevalie.”
Iris curtsied politely.
“Don’t be so formal. We’re good friends with Nigel, aren’t we?”
Bleue smiled softly. His delicate hair rustled, the shade between light purple and light red. His pale, smooth cheeks were tinged with a hint of red, and although he was a man, he was ephemeral.
When she was fascinated by his excessive beauty, Bleue smiled bashfully.
“I heard something fun happened at the tea party the other day? I should have participated too.”
Bleue laughed and said to her.
“Fun…?”
There shouldn’t have been anything particularly interesting. Iris thought in confusion.
“I heard about Miss Iris’ heroic saga.”
“Brother!!”
Rezeda hurriedly held Bleue back.
Iris blushed and ducked her head. The saga must be about those gloves.
Oh my gosh! Even His Highness the Crown Prince knows about it. I want to crawl into a hole!
“It was pretty rare for Rezeda to be in such a good mood after a tea party, so I asked him about it.”
“Brother!”
“He said an interesting young lady had come.”
“Brother!! That’s enough, isn’t it! Please just go already!”
To Rezeda’s voice, Bleue let out a small cough.
“… Ah, Brother, I went too far saying it so forcefully. Forgive me. But, your health will deteriorate. Please take a break.”
When Rezeda said worriedly, Bleue laughed a little.
“Rezeda is kind. Well then, I’ll head off. Nigel, if you don’t mind, can you come with me?”
At Bleue’s words, Nigel stepped closer and lent his shoulder.
Holding onto the shoulders of Bleue, who was still coughing a little, Nigel left the greenhouse.
I wonder if His Highness Bleue’s body was weak… Speaking of which, in the setting, his older brother died before the game started, and the second prince, Rezeda, became the crown prince. Does this mean that something will happen to His Highness Bleue before the game starts…?
Wait, the lover of the other capture target, Cyttis, should have died of illness before the game. Coincidence? No way, will there be an epidemic in the royal capital?
With a shudder, a chill ran down Iris’ spine.
I don’t mind if it’s a misunderstanding, or rather, I want it to be a misunderstanding! Even if I asked him about the crown prince’s physical condition, he wouldn’t be able to give me an exact answer. Even if I know something, there’s nothing I can do about it…
“I’m sorry. Lady Iris, my brother was rude…”
When Rezeda said that awkwardly, Iris startled.
“N-no.”
“First, sit over here.”
She took a seat at the white round table as recommended by Rezeda.
However, from then it was silent.
It was so silent that you could practically hear the air whistling past. Iris was troubled. She didn’t know why she was called here, and Nigel wasn’t there either. She had heard that it was a tea party, so she thought the other ladies were also coming, but it wasn’t so.
Whoosh…….
Ah, she could even hear the flapping of a bird’s wings. On the other hand, she didn’t have anything to talk about, and she didn’t want to get along with him in the first place.
Whoosh…….
Hmmm… can I go home already?
“Umm, Your Highness Rezeda, it’s a waste of time to be with me in this manner, so if it’s alright I’d like to retire.”
“You can’t!”
Rezeda answered immediately. As though surprised by his own words, Rezeda looked taken aback.
“Ah, no, sorry for saying it so aggressively.”
“No……”
Whoosh, for the third time.
There’s nothing to talk about no matter how you think about it— if you want to talk to Nigel, just call for Nigel alone. Right, that’s it! I’ll just go home! If it’s Nigel, I can pick him up later.
“Excuse me? If you want to talk to Nigel, I can leave him here.”
“Lady Iris?”
Rezeda looked at Iris in a panic, but that didn’t concern Iris at all. After all, Iris wanted to leave this place, and that was all.
“Oh, that, Lady Iris. How about some tea?”
“It’s still in the cup.”
She had just taken her seat. It hadn’t even touched her mouth yet.
“We also have cakes. I prepared a lot of things because I didn’t know your taste……”
When Rezeda said so, a trolley was brought in. The one who pushed the trolley was the maid from the previous tea party. The maid’s white brimmed cap had a little ribbon made out of the lace from that day.
“Take whatever you’d like.”
“Well!”
The trolley was lined with colorful cakes. From tarts with summer strawberries, to something white that must be cheesecake. Fluffy chiffon to gugelhupf. All of them looked delicious.
“I recommend the strawberry tart.”
Rezeda said.
“Then I’ll go with a strawberry tart.”
If Iris said it like so, the maid would take care of it.
“You made it into a ribbon. I’m happy.”
Iris called out to the maid. She was delighted that she wore that item, when it wouldn’t be strange even if she hated it and threw it away for having bad bacteria.
The maid’s face turned bright red, and she bowed deeply.
Rezeda watched the situation with a smile. Iris suddenly felt a gaze on her and looked at Rezeda. Their gazes intertwined.
“Yes? What is it?”
When asked, Rezeda hurriedly averted his eyes.
“No, umm, it seems that I let you experience something bad at the tea party the other day, so I invited you to make up for it.”
After all, Rezeda was kind. To everyone, absolutely. Although Game-Iris didn’t notice that.
“That kind of thing, please don’t mind it too much.”
“But, it’s too much to allow a lady’s wounds be exposed like that.”
“There’s really no need to mind. Nigel told me this. It’s convenient for screening people.”
When Iris raised her left hand, Rezeda smiled as though troubled.
“Lady Iris is strong, isn’t she?”
“That isn’t true. I simply don’t believe it’s something to think about so much. Because I lived.”
That was how Iris’ truly felt. It was after Nigel told her that she also realized. Nigel told her that she was glad she was alive.
As long as she survived, she could do something about it. However, in a situation where a single mistake would have her waiting for death, the scars on her hand meant nothing, and on the contrary, it was convenient.
Seeing the prince place cake in his mouth, Iris also stuffed her cheeks with cake. The tartness of the small summer strawberries mixed with the sweetness of the cream, making it a perfect match for early summer.
As expected of the royal palace! The sweets at the tea party the other day were delicious, but the cake is also delicious!
When she squirmed, savoring it, Rezeda chuckled.
“Do you like cake?”
“Yes.”
“That’s good.”
Rezeda smiled winningly. Unable to understand his intentions, Iris was bewildered.
