Chapter 14

Casual Conversation

It is the last day of the examination week.

Right now we are taking the test for Biology.

And it is 5 more minutes before we pass the test paper.

I had already put down my pen and I'm just waiting for the time to pass.

When I look around I see some of my classmates sleeping, while others are in a hurry still answering their papers.

Looking around everyone is so different.

Tachibana was asleep with her legs and arms crossed, probably she finished answering the question in about half the time we are given.

When I look at Tachibana it reminded me of the last time I went to the school pool at night with her.

It was beautiful.

Both the pool and Tachibana.

That day was extraordinary.

I want to go back to that day.

While I was thinking that I noticed that there's only one more minute left before the time is over.

I'm watching the second hand of the clock tick by.

When the second hand made a round, a chime sounded, signaling the end of the day.

There were shouts of joy all around the class saying "It's finally over!

"It's over, good job!"

Tachibana then calls me out.

"Yup good job also, from now on I will listen and participate to the classes properly."

This was mark the end of the first examination period of my first year of high school.

It's now recess time.

As usual I'm sitting and eating at the back of the classroom by the window while having a casual conversation with Tachibana who is seating next to me. It is truly a precious moment before the summer break.

"Tachibana, you're a gal right?"

"Eh? A gal? No, I'm not a gal."

"But, you know, sometimes you talk like that. Especially when you're with Umezawa and the others."

"Rina and her friends are indeed gals. Maybe I'm just picking up the way they speak."

Umezawa and the others are surely gals as Umezawa has a long straight blonde hair that looks kind of cool.

"Hmmm but maybe you are the type of a neat and clean gal?"

"Neat and clean? Is that supposed to be a compliment?"

Tachibana has long black hair and she doesn't wear much makeup, also she has a face that is more beautiful than cute.

Just looking at her appearance, I feel that she's neat and clean.

"But I'm also wearing a thin makeup you know."

"Do you always do your make-up before going to school?"

"Yes, but I'm just putting a light a makeup."

Our school is a very rare high school with very lenient rules exist where makeup, cell phones, hairstyles, part-time jobs, and everything else is allowed.

"Tachibana, have you ever dyed your hair?"

"Nope, but I want to."

"Oh, what color?"

"I want to apply Meche* on my hair."

"What is a Meche?"

She then passionately explained about Meche, but I couldn't understand her at all.

"Did you get it?"

"Yes I've got it! So that's what it is."

I didn't understand anything she said.

"If it's you Tachibana I believe that you can be a model. Have you even been scouted or something?"

"I have but I've turned them all down."

"Why?"

"Most of them are kind of shady, and I'm afraid they'll say that it's for a magazine shoot and then they will make me take off my clothes."

"I see..."

It's really a scary world out there.

"You are also really sensitive to trends so I believe that you are suited for modelling. By the way what's the newest trend now?"

"Uhmmm the trend now huh?"

Tachibana suddenly crossed her index finger and thumb and showed it to me.*

"What are you doing?"

Eh! Don't you know? This is the latest trend among the students it's called finger heart. Not just gals but all the JKs know this!"

"I'm sorry. I've never seen it before."

"That's why you're missing on the latest trends."

I really like this time of casual conversation with Tachibana.

Oh, that's right, I completely forgot.

I remember seeing a poster for a local festival at a train station sometime ago and the event is coming up in a few days.

It's on the last day before summer vacation, it's also the day of our school assembly.

I should ask Tachibana out... but what if she says no?

But Tachibana invited me to the school pool at night and she also invited me to go to the mall.

It's always Tachibana who is inviting me, so this time around it is my turn to invite her.

"Hey, Tachibana, You know, there's a festival in our town in a few days, would you like to go with me?

"What! Yes, I want to go! Let's go, let's go!

It's really good that she said yes.

Tachibana is saying the list of the things that she needs to prepare.

I thought for a moment to invite Ren as well but I wanted to go alone with her.

I'm sorry, Ren! Please forgive me this time!

"Of course there will be food stalls, right?"

Tachibana asked happily.

"Yes, also there will be a fireworks display."

"What? That's amazing! As I haven't seen a fireworks display in a long time!

I was really excited as I feel that this was going to be the start of a fun summer.



Note: 1. When Kato asked Tachibana what color does she wants with her hair she replied Meche apparently Meche is not a hair color but one way of coloring one's hair using strips of plastic so based on google image I guess what she wants is a combination of two or more colors

2. Search finger heart in google image. It's a trend that was popularized in South Korea, you would notice that a lot of K-pop singers is doing that hand sign.
