Chapter 24

Misunderstanding

By the time I finally arrived at Tachibana's house, the sun had already set, and it was getting dark.

Now that I think about it, it's been a long time since I came to Tachibana's house.

When I pressed the door bell at the place that looked like the entrance, the bell rang.

I wonder if Tachibana is okay.

Apparently, Tachibana told Umezawa that she didn't want me to be with her.

Umezawa said that Tachibana would be fine, but when I heard that she became depressed after their call, I got worried about her.

Suddenly the automatic door at the entrance opens. I wonder if there's some kind of camera that they are checking to determine who's at the entrance?

Is it fine for me to enter? Thinking that I entered nervously.

Even so, Tachibana's house is really huge.

After I entered, I proceeded to walk in a wide space. I continued walking until I was in front of a two-story house with a flat roof.

A person who was waiting at the front door opened the door for me.

It seems that person is one of their servants.

Tachibana's house is really spacious and clean; looking in front of their house, I see a garden and a pool.

It's the second time that I've been here, but I still can't help but be amazed at this view.

"It's been a while. Did you come to see the young lady?"

"Yes, that's right."

"It looks like you are injured."

"I'm sorry, I've been through a lot lately."

"Let's disinfect it right away."

Saying that the servant tried to leave to get the medical supplies, but...

"No, please, I'm fine. Please let me see Kyoko-san."

"Yes, please proceed to the 2nd floor."

I then climbed the stairs to reach Tachibana's room on the second floor.

I just hope that Tachibana didn't have any weird misunderstandings.

When I arrived at the second floor I immediately saw Tachibana's room. It looks like the servant hasn't arrived yet.

When I tried to call out Tachibana from outside of her room, my voice got stuck and I couldn't speak.

Am I scared?

It's fine; just remember why you're here.

When I made up my mind...

"Tachibana? I'm sorry for calling out to you, it's Kato. I noticed that you are absent from school today, are you okay?"

There's no reply.

Is Tachibana really behind this wall?

Maybe she believed what Umezawa had told her?

"Tachibana? May I come in?"

I called out to her again, but there was still no reply.

I can't give up here.

"I'm going in, okay?"

Even though I still didn't get Tachibana's permission, I still decided to enter her room.

I put my hand on the doorknob, and I slowly opened the door.

Tachibana's room is really dark; no lights are turned, so that's why I can hardly see anything, but I can hear a sobbing voice coming from the bed.

"I'm going to turn on the light, okay?"

I groped my way down to the wall to find the switch to turn on the lights. After a while, I found something that felt like a switch, so I pressed it, and when I did so, the light turned on.

When I looked towards the bed, I saw Tachibana sitting on the bed while hugging her knees.

I couldn't see her face, but I could tell she was crying.

I then approached the bed.

"What are you doing here?"

Tachibana, still crying, said that angrily.

"I'm here because I was worried about you."

I sit next to Tachibana, who's crying in bed.

"Did Umezawa say something to you?"

"She did, she said that she didn't want Kazuma to be with me. I thought that I was only hated by Rina and the others, but I didn't know that I was also hated by Kazuma-kun too."

After saying that, Tachibana started crying harder.

"Don't believe that, because I don't hate you at all. All of that is Umezawa's lie."

"Remember the time that we went to the beach or when we watched the fireworks display together? Did you think I would do that if I hated you?"

"Look at this."

I showed Tachibana the matching bracelet that we bought on the day that we went to the beach.

Tachibana slightly raised her face to look at the bracelet that I was talking about.

The bracelet is made out of leather and has a small metal plate on it, when you put them together, they will form a heart shape.

Tachibana bought a brown one, and I bought a black one.

Right now, Tachibana is wearing that bracelet on her wrist.

"You know I really care about you a lot."

A pair of each of the bracelets is attached to our wrists.

"Remember when we bought it, you said that we'd always be together, right?"

When I brought my wrist next to Tachibana, I put our bracelets next to each other to make a heart shape.

"See, these bracelets are like us; even if we aren't together, our hearts are still connected to each other. So do you believe me now?"

Tachibana nodded while still sitting on the bed, hugging her knees and hiding her face.

"Please raise your head; I want to see your face."

Tachibana then peeked at me while still maintaining her position.

"Where did you get that injury!?"

Tachibana was surprised when she saw my face.

"A lot of things happened."

"What do you mean by that?"

When Tachibana saw my injuries, she had a worried look on her face.

"Actually..."

I explained to Tachibana what happened, how Umezawa threatened me to break up with her, or how the captain of the basketball club still likes her.

"I can't forgive them. Even if they are my friends, to do something like that to you, I can't forgive such a thing."

With how she let out her emotions like that, I can tell that Tachibana is genuinely angry for my sake.

"Listen to me, I'm not taking their side, but I think Umezawa threatened me because you're that important to her."

That's my honest opinion about what Umezawa has done.

I was really scared at that time, but I could tell that Umezawa was doing that because she really treasured Tachibana.

"I can tell that you are too kind because even though you already got beaten, you can still say things like that."

"I'm sorry, but anyway, just one more time, I want you to talk to Umezawa again. Also..."

"Let's say that we are now dating. I feel like if we say that, things will work out for the better."

"That's right. I'm sorry that I doubted you. Now that I think about it, there's no way that Kazuma-kun would think of me that way."

"It's fine. I thought that if it's you, I'm sure that you would understand it."

Tachibana is now back to her usual self, as she's smiling now.

Finally, I can see Tachibana's smile again.

"That's right! We need to disinfect your injuries right away!"

When Tachibana said that, she immediately got up and  left the room.

I'm glad that I cleared up the misunderstanding between us. Though I can honestly say that at one point I wondered what would have happened if Tachibana didn't believe me, in the end I'm glad that everything worked out.

But I'm still a little scared, as I don't know what Umezawa's reaction will be if she learns that Tachibana and I are going out together.

Suddenly my cellphone started ringing, and when I look at the screen, it says "Mother".

"Hello?"

"Kazuma! What did you do?"

"Huh? What are you talking about?"

"I just received a call from your school. They've said that you are suspended."

Suspended? It looks like things are turning out for the worse.
