Chapter 9 (Part 1)

Seat Change

Since that day, I have become more conscious of Tachibana.

Even when I am in class, I am more aware of Tachibana sitting next to me, that I often giving her a sideway glance.

Even when I am engaged in club activities, I'm wondering if Tachibana has already left.

After returning home, I lie on my bed and I started to think.

It is finally tomorrow. As in our homeroom today, the teacher said that the seat change would be done tomorrow.

Tomorrow, I will say goodbye to my seat next to Tachibana.

When that happened I will have lesser chance to talk to her.

And it just so happened right after when I was able to become friends with her after she apologized for bullying me.

That's right! I should call Tachibana.

I forgot I don't have Tachibana's contact information.

I wish we could exchange our contact information before we change seats tomorrow.

The next day as I was walking towards our classroom I saw Tachibana talking to our homeroom teacher in front of the staff room.

For some reason, the teacher is bowing her head.

I wonder if she's doing that because of the connection that Tachibana's parents have in Eisho Highschool.

But still, what are they talking about?

Maybe I'll just ask her later.

Homeroom time.

The seats will finally be changed.

"I guess we're finally saying goodbye to our seats."

I said that to Tachibana while regretting.

"I guess so."

Tachibana fiddles with her nails as she crosses her legs while she said that in a disinterested manner.

Why is she taking this so lightly.

Just yesterday, she was so sad because our seats are changing.

Maybe she's given up on me.

Then I remember that I want to exchange contact information with her.

"That's right why don't we exchange our contact information?"

"Okay!"

She agreed immediately.

"I guess after this we would have less chance to talk to each other anymore."

When I said that Tachibana replied confidently...

"Don't worry it's fine, we will be seated next to each other."

... What is she talking about? How could she know that?

While we were talking about this, the class started to change seats.

Seats were written on the blackboard and numbers were assigned to those seats.

The teacher draws lots in the order of the roster, and the number that comes up determines the person's seat.

Every time the teacher draws lots, the students are either happy or sad.

"Not you again!"

"I hate this, this seat sucks!"

It's probably because a lot of students wants to seat next to their friends or the person they care about.

There are also a lot of people who wants to sit next to Tachibana.

Finally, it is my turn.

I am very nervous.

"Eh for Kato..."

To my surprise, it was the same seat as my current one, at the very back of the room next to the window.

I didn't know this was possible.

"It's the same seat I'm sitting in now."

When I muttered that Tachibana said "Wow, I didn't know such coincidences existed."

It felt like she's half heartedly saying that as if she knew that this would happen.

The seat change continues

Then finally it's Tachibana's turn.

The boys in the class who had been making a lot of noises earlier become quiet all at once.

They are watching the teacher draw lots.

Everyone wants to be seated near Tachibana.

"Tachibana's number is..."

To my surprise, Tachibana was also in the same seat as she is now.

How is it possible for both of us to be in the same seat again?

The boys in the class became noisy again and I can feel them glaring at me.

It feels like their sights on me are saying "Why are you sitting next to Tachibana again."

Tachibana didn't mind the noise and said "We're together again."

She said that with a smile.

How is this possible?

Come to think of it, Tachibana and the teacher were talking about something this morning.

Tachibana. you did something didn't you?

"Maybe it's fate that we seating next to each other again?"

Tachibana says that jokingly while grinning.

I knew it she really did something.

But whatever she did I'm happy with the result.

"Maybe."

The usual routine of me sitting next to Tachibana returned again.
