Chapter 17 - Rank Forty-Ninth Crocell

"I am already ready, sir!"

Orobas said, stretching himself out.

I was about to summon Crocell in my room. Well, it looks like Orobas is not going to be involved this time. I can't imagine Crocell going on a rampage like Aim did.

All right, I thought to myself as I cast the summoning spell.

"Thou shalt love thy neighbor. And worship the Lord. WELL, I'm not in the mood since I was expelled from the heavenly realm......."

This time, she was already in a gloomy mood from the start.

"I've come to save you, Crocell-san."

I declared early on to show my determination.

"Save me ....... Are you going to lead me to the heavens?" "I'm sorry, but that's not something I can do." "You're right, ....... There is no way you can do that, is there?"

Crocell looks blatantly disappointed. I've decided that it's better to make it clear when I can't do something.

"If you'd like to tell me why you were expelled from the heavens, Crocell? It might make you feel a little better." "An angel confessing his sins to a human being: ....... I don't think that confessing to you will earn me the Lord's forgiveness. Oh well."

Crocell began to speak, giving up a bit already.

"The angel's job is to guide and protect people according to the Lord's will. But sometimes the Lord gives us trials. It was like that time. The Lord gave man a test in the form of a flood. That flood was going to kill a lot of people."

As I listened to Crocell's story, I wondered how cruel the Lord could be. I wondered if the Lord was really right and if there really needed to be a trial.

"But it just so happened that many of the people who were going to die in that flood were people I knew. So, unintentionally, I stopped the flood against the Lord's will. I ate the water goddess who caused the flood." "Isn't that a good thing?"

This is what I thought when I heard what she just said. If the role of angels is to protect people, then there is nothing wrong with what Crocell did.

"No, angels should only be the hands and feet of the Lord. The moment I develop selfish feelings, I am disqualified from being an angel.

Well, if the role of an angel is to absolutely follow the Lord's will, then Crocell is certainly an angel disqualified.

"Is that why you were expelled from the heavens?" "Yes, that's right. I disobeyed the Lord's will, and I killed the goddess of water by eating her. These are my two sins." "I see......."

I didn't know what to say next to Crocell, because I couldn't relate to the angel's feelings at all. After hearing what she had just said, I feel that she had done anything wrong. However, saying those words will not help her in any way.

"Hey, how do you feel about demons?"

That's why I decided to find out what Crocell really meant from a different direction.

"They are treacherous people who try to deceive the lord."

Crocell replies immediately. That's a pretty harsh thing to say about demons. Crocell is one of those demons, though.

"I don't think so. Well, I haven't met many demons yet, but I do know a couple of things. I know that they are a bunch of selfish, irrational, and emotional beings."

I claimed, borrowing some of Fulkas-san's words.

"You're devilish enough to selfishly help people, Crocell." "Oh, um, are you trying to hurt me?" "No, I'm not trying to hurt you. ......"

I panic. I wonder if I used the wrong word.

"Hey, Crocell. Do you want to do something fun with me?" "Something fun......?" "Well, now that you're free, you've got to do what you think is fun." "Free......?"

Now, Crocell has more freedom compared to when she was an angel. It's a waste of time to just be depressed.

"Yes, demons are a bunch of free spirits. Orobas is one of them, isn't he?" "Yesssss, it is a great pleasure for me to serve my masterrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr."

Yes, Orobas is a great example of a demon, cries emotionally, praising me exaggeratedly, and yet refusing to leave.

"So let's have some fun, Crocell." "But I don't know how to have fun." "Well, isn't there anything you want to do, Crocell?" "What do I, want to do?"

Then she looked at me. Then, what? Crocell turned red and swam her eyes. Why was that?

"Well, yes, ...... I might want to interact with humans more."

She said that she had stopped the flood to help humans. That's probably why she was interested in humans in the first place.

"Okay, well, let's get to know me first."

I said, and held out my hand.

Then Crocell awkwardly took my hand and said, "Yes......."

"Okay, well, I'm sorry to bother you, but can you teach me water magic?" "Yes, I understand."

Yes, I can't wait to learn the magic of water. My head was filled with that desire from earlier.

Crocell’s point of view

It was a long time ago. When Crocell was still an angel. At that time, unlike now, she had few emotions like an angel.

"Hello, angel! Come play with me!"

Suddenly, one day, I was called by a human boy. I was at a time when I was doing what I had to do when the Lord ordered me to go down to the outside world.

"No, I can't do that, because I have things to do." I remember replying coldly. But the next day, and the day after that, every time I saw the boy, he asked me to play with him.

Then, one day, I started talking to him, and before I knew it, we were playing together. The next thing I knew, I was getting involved not only with the boy, but with various people in the town. When I was an angel, I was somewhat mechanical and had no feelings. However, after I started interacting with the boy and the people of the town, I started to feel something like emotion.

Then, one day. One day, the Lord decided to give the town's inhabitants the ordeal of a flood. In the past, I would have obeyed the order without thinking. But I was no longer the same.

After that, as I have already told you, I saved people by eating in the Goddess of Water. Then, I violated the order and became a fallen angel.

I became a demon and spent many gloomy days in the demon world. Every day, I repented to the Lord and regretted it to myself.

"So let's have some fun, Crocell."

But today, a boy said that to me. Is it my imagination or does he remind me of a boy I met a long time ago?

To have fun. I had long forgotten such a feeling. But then I remembered. I remembered how much fun I had with the boy and the people of the town.

Maybe this person would be able to entertain me again. So, Crocell took Norman's hand.
