Artificer Adventure Guide

Chapter 3: To do a good job, you must first sharpen your tools

"It's the Brain Eater! Kill it!"

The first time he saw this strange creature, the tiefling rushed towards the garbage mountain nearby.

She tried to get the weapon as quickly as possible and kill the creature she called the Brain Eater.

But looking at this strange creature with a brain as its body, instead of feeling any disgust, Carl felt particularly kind.

"I think as long as this thing doesn't bother us, we can definitely..."

Just as he was about to plead for mercy from the brain-eating monster, Carl suddenly discovered that the tiefling kept bending down to pick up things after rushing towards the garbage mountain and stopped moving.

And the brain-eating monster's body is surrounded by fluctuations of psychic energy.

The scene before him once again felt very familiar to Karl.

Suddenly, a strong tingling sensation came from the brain.

The memory picture of Karl controlling the game character to kill the brain-eating monster in his previous life emerged from the depths of his memory.

‘The Brain Eater is a monster created by the Mind Flayer using the brains of intelligent beings. It can use spiritual energy to confuse others, and even directly use spiritual energy to transmit into other people’s brains, devour the other person’s brain, and control the other person’s body. ’

Along with the picture, there is also some information about the brain-eating monster.

Rationality and logical thinking came into play at this moment, and Carl's inexplicable "good impression" of the Brain-Eating Monster suddenly dissipated.

‘Did this ghost use spiritual energy to interfere with my judgment just now? ’

Seeing that the tiefling had been interfered with by the other party, Karl picked up a spear beside him, pointed it directly at the brain-eating monster's body and threw it out.

Although the Brain Eater has good psychic powers, it lacks the ability to interfere with actual matter, and its psychic transmission also has considerable limitations.

After being hit by Karl's spear, it flew out immediately.

Only then did Karl notice that there was a transparent shell outside the opponent's brain-like body.

‘Lightning Pull’

Karl found a wrench in a nearby garbage pile, held it with one hand, chanted a spell in his mouth, and threw a 0-level spell at the brain-eater that was knocked to the ground.

Whip-like lightning energy burst out from his fingertips, hitting the Brain Eater less than 10 feet away from him impartially.

The psychic fluctuations around the brain-eating monster immediately dissipated, and the tiefling, whose eyes were dull, regained his ability to move.

Picking up a hand ax on the ground, she made a jumping slash towards the brain-eating monster in the distance.

"Pfft——"

The transparent shell failed to protect the brain-eating monster from this fatal attack, and its body immediately shattered into a puddle of flesh, unable to rise again.

After confirming that the other party was dead, the tiefling turned around and confirmed to Karl: "I was controlled by its psychic energy just now?"

"Well, you just stayed still in the picking position, as if you were under a human body-holding spell."

"Thanks to your quick reaction. The next step for this thing is to replace my brain and control my body. Fortunately, you reacted quickly enough."

Not knowing that Karl was almost bewitched by the other party, the tiefling wiped the sweat from his forehead, his voice hoarse.

"You should take some of the weapons and equipment here depending on the situation. They are not very good things, but they are better than being unarmed. By the way, my name is Hope, a level 2 barbarian."

Throwing the hand ax to the ground, Hope picked up a leather armor, put it on, and introduced himself to Karl.

"Karl Iris, level 1 artificer."

After also introducing his situation, Karl looked at the tiefling girl changing clothes in front of him, and for a moment he didn't know where to look.

The leather armor she chose was a navel-baring vest-style leather armor. From the appearance, this thing is actually similar in coverage to the tube top that Hope is currently wearing.

But she didn't choose this kind of thing for the sake of good looks or saving materials, but to allow the "unarmored defense" ability of the barbarian profession to be brought into play.

Armor-less defense does not mean wearing nothing. As long as the armor does not cover a large area and does not affect sensitivity, the barbarian can maintain the blessings of armor-less defense while wearing certain armor.

Looking at the leather armor that the opponent barely put on, Karl lamented that the opponent's development was a bit too good, and he picked up a set of armor and put it on himself.

Although the artificer is also called an artificer or a mechanical mage, like a priest, it is a magic system that can wear armor.

There is even a branch called Armored Division in the Artificer's advanced route.

The reason why Carl chose to become an artificer instead of a mage was because he wanted to operate a mecha, except that he was mentally reluctant.

Thanks to the three months of military training provided by the Magic Academy, Carl put on the armor quite smoothly.

With a crossbow on his waist, Karl picked up some fluff, feathers, rotten food, broken mirror fragments and a deflated bell from unknown sources on the ground, and wrapped them in a small cloth bag.

Holding the wrench as a magic weapon, he nodded to Hope, indicating that he could go out.

The artificer's spellcasting tools are the tools of their proficiency, and the types of tools vary depending on the individual's circumstances.

For example, Carl himself can use repair tools and blacksmith tools to cast spells.

Seeing that Karl had a crossbow on his waist and only prepared four axes for himself, Hope couldn't help but frown and asked:

"There are no crossbow arrows for hand crossbows here, why are you carrying these?"

"After you killed the brain-eating monster just now, I also got some spiritual feedback. It should be promoted to level 2 soon. Then I can make the crossbow into magic equipment."

Just like in the game, people in this world will gain spirituality (experience) after fighting. When they have accumulated enough spirituality, they can try to upgrade.

This way of gaining spirituality does not focus on the result, but gives feedback based on the process of the battle.

So it doesn't matter who the enemy dies in, what matters is how much effort is made during the battle.

Shrugging, Hope led the way, and Carl was on guard behind.

This lair of the mind flayer seemed to have taken a lot of thought. Along the way, Carl and Hope encountered the brain-eating monster three times.

Fortunately, Hope's hand axe was thrown accurately and powerfully. The brain-eating monster just detected it through psychic power, and she had already beaten it into mud.

Not long after, the two came to the exit location mentioned by Hope.

However, this place suffered a fierce attack, and the gate that Hope remembered had been damaged by artillery bombardment.

The rocks above collapsed, blocking the original gate.

Faintly, there was a sound of fighting outside.

"It seems that those people have not yet decided the winner. There is a gap over there. I will go and check the situation."

Perhaps he felt embarrassed that he had led the way to a dead end, so Hope took the initiative to undertake the task of investigation.

Through a palm-sized gap, Hope held his breath and looked outside.

But in just a moment, Hope left the gap like a frightened rabbit, and directly pulled Carl and ran towards the passage on the other side.
