Chapter 48 Deep in the Pond
While thinking absentmindedly, Hope in the right wing also woke up after hearing the noise.
She drank a lot from the bucket first, then ran to Carl and asked about the movements of the goblins.
"The goblins are back? How is the battle going?"
Recalling the state of the goblins just now, Carl gave his own opinion.
"To be honest, it's not very good. Most of the goblins are in a miserable state. It seems that there must have been a very fierce battle."
Hearing this, Hope's eyebrows were almost close together.
The incomplete information made it impossible for the two to piece together the whole picture of the matter for a while, and the unknown often represents danger.
"Do you want to go and explore?"
Looking at each other, Carl and Hope said the same thing in unison.
The same tacit understanding made the two stunned, and then laughed together.
"If the mind flayer is really so strong, we should make plans early and leave this troubled place as soon as possible."
Looking back at the wooden house next to him, Hope's eyes revealed reluctance.
But there was no other way. They couldn't afford to offend them now, so they had to hide.
"Then let's go after breakfast?"
"Okay!"
After returning to the cabin, Carl and Hope quickly finished their first meal of the day, then put down the climbing rope and left the giant mushroom.
Hope was about to follow the path opened by the goblins to the base of the Mind Flayer, but Carl, who was already wearing the Guardian Power Armor, said:
"Don't go this way, I know a small path!"
With some heavy steps, Carl took Hope to a not very obvious forest path.
This was the one he stepped on when he went to explore the Mind Flayer base last time. After a few days, the fluorescent mushrooms and moss that he had stepped on before seemed to have recovered.
'What an amazing vitality. '
With a sigh in his heart, Carl took Hope through the forest based on his memory.
Because the power armor was replaced with the assault type, although Carl's design of the power armor avoided the noise caused by it to the greatest extent, creatures with high perception could still hear some movement.
So Carl and Hope would always pay attention to the movements around them. Once any special creature noticed them, they would kill them instantly.
Especially the goblin scouts or brain-eating monsters.
Once the two groups found out that there were two outsiders in the woods, Carl and Hope couldn't imagine what they would do.
After crossing many obstacles, Carl and Hope finally arrived near the base of the Mind Flayer.
Through the cover of wooden mushrooms, the two finally saw the current situation of the Mind Flayer base.
On the bumpy land, the hemispherical chitin base still stood on it.
There were many headless corpses of goblins scattered around the base.
Four giant squid tentacles grew out of the ground, swaying left and right with the breeze.
"It seems that this is the reason why the goblins failed. If this thing falls, even a level 6 warrior will find it difficult to stand up again."
"Anyway, I don't have the confidence to block that thing. Let's go back and prepare and leave this forest to find another way out."
Just seeing the four tentacles, Carl and Hope have lost the courage to find trouble with the mind flayer.
Thinking of his previous idea of "finding clues to leave the dungeon after killing the mind flayer", Carl felt his face was a little hot.
"A newborn calf is not afraid of a tiger" is not enough to describe his arrogance at that time.
Sighing, Carl and Hope were about to go back, and suddenly, a subtle psychic wave probed towards this side.
Without thinking about who the psychic energy came from, Carl immediately squatted down and grabbed a handful of soil, then carried Hope and ran in another direction.
After a short recitation of the spell and making the corresponding gestures, the 1st level spell [Stride] was cast on himself.
Wearing heavy armor, he ran at a speed that ordinary people could not catch up with.
However, as he ran away, the Mind Flayer base behind him immediately responded.
Dozens of brain eaters rushed out and chased him relentlessly.
Carl knew that they did not "discover" him in the real sense.
Because brain eaters have no eyes, they rely on psychic energy to obtain information about the surroundings.
The weak psychic energy before should have been released by the brain eaters on daily patrols to prevent foreign enemies from sneaking in, which is basically equivalent to an unintentional glance by ordinary people.
The brain eaters that released psychic energy must have noticed the existence of Carl and Hope, but it did not really capture the thoughts of the two, nor did it use psychic energy to detect their appearance.
So, Carl started running without saying a word.
Because as long as he escaped a certain range and the brain eaters stopped chasing them, they could return to the cabin safely and plan to leave the woodland.
Walking through the woods, Carl relied on the solidity of the power armor and almost never dodged the oncoming wood mushrooms.
The broken mushrooms perfectly marked his movement trajectory. Although the brain-eating monster behind him was far behind, he could continue to move forward by following these traces.
But this is exactly what Carl wanted to see.
"Bang!"
After breaking another woody mushroom, Carl suddenly discovered that the road ahead was actually opened up by the goblins.
After thanking these selfless guys in his heart, Carl randomly found a direction to leave.
Soon, a pool of water appeared in front of him.
Subconsciously, he used psychic power to detect the depth of the pool, but even after expanding the detection range of psychic power to the limit, Carl still did not reach the bottom of the pool.
Carl, who was about to move forward, suddenly had a bright look in his eyes.
"Hope, hold your breath!"
After whispering a reminder to Hope, Carl jumped into the pool.
A splash of water surged up, and Carl and Hope quickly sank to the bottom of the pool with the help of heavy power armor.
Carl's helmet automatically turned on the effect of the underwater breathing cap, and a bubble wrapped around Carl, allowing him to continue breathing underwater.
He quickly cancelled the injection quota occupied by the alchemy pot, and a blue light bloomed in Carl's hand, and then copied an ordinary underwater breathing cap and put it on Hope's head.
Hope, who was holding her breath, breathed a sigh of relief.
As the two continued to sink, the water pressure was about to make her spit out the air in her mouth.
And with the underwater breathing cap, Hope was finally able to breathe well.
On the water pond, several brain-eating monsters came late.
Carl's last trace was on the road opened by the goblins, so after a brief discussion, the brain-eating monsters split into two groups and chased to both sides of the road.
Seeing the water pond, several brain-eating monsters all surrounded it.
Most of their intelligence is similar to that of ordinary people, so it is easy to come to the conclusion that "the fleeing enemy may have jumped into the water pond to hide."
But there were no bubbles in the water pond, and their psychic power did not detect any living creatures in the water pond.
This is of course, Carl's psychic power strength is similar to that of these brain-eating monsters. He can't detect the bottom of the water pond, and these brain-eating monsters naturally can't detect it either.
At this moment, Carl and Hope have sunk to a depth far beyond the limit of the psychic detection range of the brain-eating monsters.
After waiting for a while, these brain-eating monsters exchanged opinions with each other using psychic power, and finally left along the road.
And in the depths of the water pond, Carl and Hope finally sank to the bottom.
