“I’ve earned quite a bit of money in the past few days.”
Opening the <Shop>, I gloated as I looked at my balance.

Remaining Balance―~¥340,000,000.

In a normal world, if I had this much, I would be able to live quietly and comfortably, free from any worldly cares. Even if I splurged a little irresponsibly, I would still have more than enough.

However, in the current world, monsters, the natural enemy of humans, existed. I had yet to encounter a hopelessly powerful monster, but it wasn’t clear if that would always continue to be the case.

“Maybe it’s time to start setting up my own base…”
I preferred a base that sported an excellent defense, kind of like a nuclear fallout shelter. If possible, I wanted to spend my time in a relaxing space, preferably surrounded by nature, with no other humans around.

“A base, huh…?”
When I put the word ‘base’ in the search bar, a bunch of queries popped up, as expected. There was a huge variety in the results, ranging from something as unreliable as a rabbit hutch to epic fortress-like structures.

“An uninhabited island base perhaps…?.”
There would certainly be no one there, and if it were a verdant, lush island, then there wouldn’t be any difficulties.

“As for guards of the uninhabited island, perhaps it might be nice to get more Familiars, just like Sol.”
Familiars had an oath of absolute loyalty to their masters, so I could trust them. Sol’s attitude and bearing so far was more than convincing enough, too. However, if I wanted to buy some powerful Familiars, there probably wouldn’t be enough money to go around.

If I wished to build a base on a deserted island somewhere, it wouldn’t be difficult to find one that fit my requirements. It would be a simple task with the use of some fantasy items.

However, if the uninhabited island itself were to be turned into a dungeon, it would be troublesome to say the least. With such a phenomenon suddenly occurring, there’d a chance of a desperate situation breaking out, where I could die from a monster or a trap.

If possible, it would be better to buy a desert island that was already dungeonized or just straight up buy a desert island instead of finding one. For the former, as long as I was prepared, I could destroy the Dungeon Core and prevent it from being dungeonized. The latter, on the other hand, had the added benefit of not being dungeonized in the first place.

But for the former, once the dungeon was cleared, there was no guarantee that it wouldn’t become dungeonized again, which was concerning. At least that was how things had been so far, but there was always the possibility that such a rule would be abolished in the future.

“In that case, it might be smarter to just buy an uninhabited island so that I won’t have to deal with the dungeonization right at the start..”
With this option, even more money would be required.

“Ugh, land is so expensive.”
For example, a 3,300 m2 uninhabited island cost about ¥150,000,000. There was a cheap uninhabited island that was about 9,900 m2 and was being sold for ¥100,000,000, but it was a barren island which was essentially a sandy beach with rocks.

“No, but then again… It might be better to have a bigger island even if it’s a bit barren. Even greenery can be made using fantasy items… This could be an option.”
All I needed was a safe, spacious land, and then I could retrofit it into a wealthy, abundant uninhabited island. Building up an uninhabited island little by little like a plastic model sounded like an interesting concept.

“Alright, I like that idea! Then I should buy an uninhabited island that is as cheap and spacious as possible… There are a lot of options out there, so I gotta take my time and pick out the best one.”
I felt myself getting kind of excited. It felt like I was building my own kingdom. Speaking of which, I always did like building sim games.

“Master, are you buying an island?” (Sol)
“Yeah. A calm island surrounded by nature and the sea. We can live there together in peace and quiet.” (Bouchi)
“Puu~! That sounds wonderful!” (Sol)
“You probably want some friends too, right Sol?” (Bouchi)
“Friends…?” (Sol)
“Yeah. Once the base is done, I’m planning to buy a lot of Familiars and create my own paradise.” (Bouchi)
“Wow~! I’ll be able to have a lot of friends?! Sol is really looking forward to that!” (Sol)
But to accomplish this, I needed more money. However, it was good to have a goal. Either way, I could fast-track my way to my goal.

“…Oh right, I wonder how Akito has been since then.” (Bouchi)
“…? Should Sol go check?” (Sol)
“Let’s see… Right. Sol, I want you to go to Tanaka-san’s house.” (Bouchi)
“Understood. But what should Sol do there?” (Sol)
“Sorry, but I need you to find the bankbooks that belonged to Tanaka-san. If they’re there, that is.” (Bouchi)
For the Inochi-shirazu, the group that had attacked him and his family, money was probably not necessary. Besides, just having the bank book was no use, so they probably left it there.

In a world like this, almost no one needed money anymore. As things stood, the money remaining in Tanaka’s possession would stay worthless if it was left there. If that money was going to disappear in vain anyway, I wanted to at least put it to good use.

After giving Sol instructions, she immediately took off in the direction of the Tanaka residence.

I was just about to spend some time chilling and eating some snacks when I suddenly heard a scream ring out from somewhere. I immediately turned my head in the direction of the sound, but I couldn’t see what was happening from the first floor. In the end, I had no choice but to go to the second floor and open up the window.

Off in the distance, there were a dozen or so people on motorcycles, chasing several fleeing civilians.

“…An insurgent group, huh?”
The group seemed to be having fun tormenting the weak. The civilians were being forced to run by the people on the motorcycles, who were prodding them with iron pipes and baseball bats.

“What is even interesting in doing something like that?”
It didn’t seem to be productive or meaningful in any way. They were just a bunch of sickos who took pleasure in hurting others.

And then, those guys on motorcycles broke into the courtyard of a house. They got off their bikes and began to smash down the windows and doors of the house with their weapons, forcefully breaking in. Immediately afterward, the clamor of screams and angry shouts could be heard. Meanwhile, those guys kept on laughing in their crude, vulgar way.

“….That’s not good.”
I didn’t care if anyone other than me got killed, but those guys were gradually heading in the direction of this house. Perhaps they would even break into this house.

This house was precious to me, since it was left behind by my parents. I couldn’t lose it.

What should I do…? Should I wipe them out?

It wasn’t out of the question. But if I didn’t kill them, there was a chance they would come back for revenge sooner or later.

I wouldn’t feel a guilty conscience from killing these kinds of people, but it didn’t change the fact that it was a pain in the ass.

There weren’t any signs of Sol coming back soon, so I would have to take some measures to protect this house.

“…There are sure to be some onlookers, and I would have wanted to wait until after I bought the uninhabited island, but I guess it can’t be helped.”
I walked outside of the house and touched the wall that encircled the house and lawn with my hand. Then, I opened the <Box> and selected the ‘Storage’ function.

My house, which had been sitting there conspicuously right in front of my eyes, disappeared in an instant.

The people that lived nearby would probably be astonished at the mysterious phenomenon of an entire single-family home vanishing just like that. I could take it out at any time, but if I did, there would surely be someone interested and come to approach me. There was a chance it could lead to some unwanted trouble, which was why I wanted to move the house later, if possible.

But now that something like this was going on nearby, I had no other choice but to do this to protect my house. I pulled the hood of my hoodie deep over my head to hide my face, then quickly left the scene.

I headed towards a park, which was a short distance away. Now that I had come this far, there wasn’t any danger of those thugs from earlier finding me here. Besides, it wasn’t far from where my house once was, so I could get in touch with Sol when she returned.

I sat down on a bench in the park, listening to the noisy revving of the motorcycle engines while continuing to keep an eye out for any approaching monsters. After a while, the sounds of the motorcycles moved away, and I breathed a sigh of relief, seeing that they weren’t coming towards me after all.

“Master! Master! Can you hear me!?” (Sol)
At that moment, I heard the sound of a panicked voice in my head.

“Yeah, I can hear you.” (Bouchi)
“Thank goodness! When I came back, the house was gone! Where are you?!” (Sol)
I informed Sol of my whereabouts, and Sol appeared almost immediately before me.

“Puuuu~, Master! What happened?! Are you hurt anywhere?” (Sol)
“Ah, sorry to make you worry. Actually―” (Bouchi)
When I told Sol what had happened…

“Master, please give me just a minute. I’ll go clean those guys up.” (Sol)
A dark, foreboding aura came from Sol’s body. She clearly intended to kill them.

“Leave them be, Sol. It’s not like the house has suffered any damage.” (Bouchi)
“Puuu… Are you sure?” (Sol)
“Yeah. What about the bank books?” (Bouchi)
“Whoops, that’s right!” (Sol)
Sol reached her beak into her soft, fluffy plumage and pulled out a bank book from it.

“This is all I could find.” (Sol)
“No, it’s plenty. Good work, Sol.” (Bouchi)
I patted Sol on the head, and she gave a cheerful purr.

When I opened up the bank book, I couldn’t stop a grin from reflexively breaking out on my face. After all, there was ¥400,000,000 recorded in this bank book.

A super-successful author sure is amaaazing!

""

I immediately put it in the <Box> and deposited the money.

“Kukuku, this is great. It’s just amazing, Sol. Now, I have over ¥700,000,000!” (Bouchi)
“If Master is happy, then Sol is happy too!” (Sol)
Yaichi-san, I will take good care of this money.

In high spirits, I went together with Sol to the Fukuzawa residence.
