As The Wind Blows Your Scent To Me

Finally, it's the weekend!

As early as ten o'clock in the morning, Yuina had dolled herself up before going out of Sakuya Residence. She was excited because she would meet her best friend, Kanna today. 

Since Kanna only returned here for two days, both of them had to fully use their time together. They planned to go shopping and food hunting until late. Kanna said she missed the food of her favorite restaurants and cafes here.

"En, I have to apply a bit more lipstick," Yuina murmured as she looked at her reflection on the car's rearview mirror.

She didn't know if it was due to the past examination period but, she found that her body felt more tired than usual. Even after sleeping for hours, she still couldn't shake off the exhaustion.

Yuina took out a small cosmetic bag from the inside of her sling bag. She pushed the bullet lipstick out and dabbed it on her lips. After being satisfied with her appearance, Yuina grabbed all of her items and got out of the car.

Although it was still early, the mall where the two friends agreed to meet was already filled with people. Most of them were youngsters instead of families who brought their children along. 

"The film starts at 10:30! Hurry up!"

"I hope the dress I saw the other day is still here. I really want to buy it!"

"Do you think that store offers great discounts? Let's check it out?"

Different voices carried different emotions but, most of them sounded free and excited to enjoy such a good weekend.

The sky was bright with white clouds floating freely. The temperature was quite low, perfect for everyone to do activities today. With loud music blasting in the air, the sound added to the merriment in the surroundings.

"I've just come inside. Where are you?" Yuina made a phone call to Kanna while she walked under the eaves, heading inside the mall.

"I'm at Beans & Leaves, enjoying my bagel and cream cheese," When Kanna answered the call, there was the sound of her munching and talking at the same time, "Hurry up. I've ordered your favorite breakfast set."

"Hehe~ Wait for me ah."

Yuina's mood was as bright as the sun outside. She was extremely happy because today she could spend time with her friend. The last time they did was two months ago before Kanna had to go to another city for her job.

Once she entered the cafe, Yuina immediately spotted Kanna. Her friend was sitting at a table on the opposite side of the cafe entrance, next to the floor-to-ceiling windows that overlook the outside.

"Kanna!"

The young woman looked up, her eyes brightened, "Yuina!"

The two women hugged each other, both of them were overflowing with happiness.

"Hehe! I missed you so much! How are you now? Are you settling well with the hospital?"

Kanna was involved in an exchange program with a hospital in City M. Two months had passed yet she still needed to be there for another two months. Because of Kanna's busy schedule, it was rare for her to take a break.

Kanna didn't even come home for the Golden Week holidays almost three weeks ago.

"Same old, same old," Kanna sighed, "I just want the program to end quickly. I miss my home so much even though City M is more developed than here."

As her friend had told her, Kanna ordered Yuina a breakfast set of a salmon scramble with a poppy seed bagel sandwich. A hot black tea complimented the breakfast menu.

"Ah, just call it brunch since it's already almost 10:30," Kanna lamented with a sigh. She munched the rest of her bagel, "Eat your meal. I have listed down all the shops I wanna go to! I need to stock up on my body wash, body lotion, lipsticks..."

"Yeah, yeah, I'll be your companion for today," Yuina laughed as she heard how big Kanna desire to go for a shopping spree today, "Before we're exhausted, we won't go home!"

"Ah, no. Even after we're exhausted, we still won't go home!" Kanna refuted.

The two friends burst into laughter.

The breakfast menu that Kanna picked had always been Yuina's favorite whenever she came here. She carefully cut the sandwich into tiny pieces before she forked one and brought it to her lips. 

"...! Cough!"

Yuina accidentally dropped the fork when a sudden impulse to retching overtaken her. She coughed a few times, one of her hands pushed the sandwich plate away.

"Yuina! What's wrong?"

Kanna immediately rose up to her feet and went to her friend's side. She worriedly rubbed Yuina's back while getting a glass of water from the table.

"Do you feel sick somewhere? Here, drink first," urged Kanna.

Yuina frowned yet she accepted the glass. Even though she still felt nauseated, she forced herself to down the entire glass of water. 

Once the cool water made a contact with her throat, the nauseating feeling gradually lessened.

"What's wrong?" With a pair of discerning eyes, Kanna stared at her friend's pale face, "Do you feel sick somewhere?"

"I don't know..." Yuina put the empty glass on the table. She took a napkin and wiped her mouth. Her appetite was ruined as her throat felt hurt due to her retching, "Try to smell it. Don't you think it's fishy?"

Kanna shot her friend a suspicious look. She took the sandwich plate, sniffed it and eyed Yuina with growing suspicion.

"Yuina, tell me, how do you feel lately? Do you feel kind of tired?"

Yuina blinked, thinking that it was weird to suddenly see Kanna assume her role as a doctor in front of her.

Yet, she still answered the questions honestly.

"I do feel tired as of late. You already know that I was busy with the examination week the other day."

"How about your sleep? And your taste in food? Do they change?" Kanna asked again.

"...I tend to sleep longer now and, my taste hasn't changed except for today."

Yuina's eyes fell on the discarded sandwich.

It was a pity because she loved this sandwich but, unknown to her why, she couldn't even stand the smell.

Yuina was doubtful that the cafe indeed served her spoilt food. She didn't want to cause a scene just because of it. It must be a mistake.

"Yuina, let's go to a pharmacy," said Kanna in a decisive tone. 

Once again, Yuina felt weird by her friend's words.

"You don't have to. I'm fine already," She rejected, "I don't need medicine just because I felt like vomiting earlier."

"When was your last period?"

"En... Ah, I should have my period now but seems like it's quite late for this month."

Kanna pursed her lips, realizing that Yuina was indeed oblivious to what had been bothering her. Even after she asked that kind of question, Yuina seemed normal as if that thought had never crossed her mind.

It might be just a suspicion but, it was better if they checked.

In a low voice, Kanna said, "We're not going there to buy medicine. We're going there to buy a pregnancy test kit."

Wide-eyed with surprise, Yuina blurted out, "You're pregnant? Who's the father?"

Since when Kanna had a boyfriend? She was always busy with her job until she only said her husband was her doctor's coat.

"It's not for me! It's for you!" replied Kanna through gritted teeth.

"...What? For me? What for?" Perplexed, Yuina pointed at herself.

Kanna heaved a sigh. With difficulty, she forced the words out of her mouth, "It's just a possibility but, what if you're pregnant?"

Yuina froze. Her hand fell on her lap.

...What?

She might be pregnant?

In the end, under Kanna's strong persuasion, Yuina went to buy pregnancy test kits from a pharmacy inside the same mall. Even though she thought her friend was just being overly concerned about it, Yuina still walked inside a toilet cubicle and did as Kanna tell her.

"Kanna, do you think... I really should check it?"

Yuina's voice echoed faintly inside the spacious restroom. She sounded so cautious and afraid.

Because it was still early, aside from the two friends, there were only two other people inside the ladies. Kanna was standing outside the cubicle that Yuina entered, a solemn expression was worn on her face.

"It's better to be safe," replied Kanna sullenly.

Inside the cubicle, Yuina was staring at the unopened test kits. Although what her friend said overwhelmed her, Yuina still bought two different kits. 

Her feelings right now were chaotic. Yuina didn't know either she should be hopeful or not.

In the end, she did the test.

Twice.

Knock! Knock!

"Yuina, how it is? It has been twenty minutes. Are you okay" Kanna knocked on the cubicle door when there was no reaction coming from Yuina.

While she was waiting outside, Kanna heard the sound of flush followed by water falling inside the small sink of the cubicle. After a while, Yuina emerged out from the toilet with a transparent plastic ziplock in one of her hands.

"Yuina? How..."

"You might be right," Yuina cut her friend off. A look of uneasiness and joy was contrasting in her eyes as they fell on the test kits she put inside the ziplock bag.

Kanna was stunned. She quickly looked inside the ziplock bag. Her eyes widened in shock.

In both test kits, they showed the same result.

Yuina was pregnant.
